I was a the age of these kids in this video when this album came out and my parents were huge Dire Straits/Knopfler fans so I literally grew up listening to their albums and my mom loved this tune. I raced 'local' stock cars for a long time, and a long time ago. When my wife and I first heard this song, just after it was released, we just KNEW it was about racing about a minute in. It captures, for us, the real feel of being involved and racing on a Saturday night. The rhythym is perfect for driving a short track with the song playing in my head. I can never forget this piece of music. Thanks forever, Mark.

I was 12 or 13 when I first heard the cover by Mary Chapin-Carpenter and it was a favorite of mine through my young life. I had been a Dire Straits fan since I was a kid because Brothers in Arms just set the world aflame. Sadly, On Every Street didn’t have that same impact. Fast forward to 2017 and I’m listening to the radio program Flashback (hosted by Matt Pinfield) and he plays “Calling Elvis” because it was the 40th anniversary of Elvis’s death. So, I pull up the album On Every Street and I came across The Bug and I never knew one of my favorite bands were originators of one of my favorite songs. I was happy to found this fact out as an adult, a nice surprise to say the least.
