In hindsight, it wasn't that crazy to see it coming. Mavs were the 2 seed but if you recall, Dirk missed 10 or 11 games to injury and had he played, they probably would have been the 1 seed. Another side point....Caron Butler was on this championship team but he was injured before the playoffs! what a deep squad that was!

Dallas played like a team and the Heat were still learning how to play like that. I thought Dallas was going to lose like they did in 2006. Wade shooting free throws but in 2011 it was LeBron and wade. I thought for sure that them 2 would shoot at least 30 free throws a game. In 06 wade shot over 20 a game in the 4 wins by the Heat.

He deserved that chip years before and Shaq and Wade were the only ones who took the first chip out of Dallas hands... But Nowitski was like fine wine who get better and then came back even more unstoppable and destroyed Kobe, Westbrook, Durant, Wade, Lebron and everyone who get in the path... I remember the happiness of seeing him winning a championship because he deserved it and fought like the best player that year... What made this Dirk more dangerous is how strong his driving game, especially going to his left, was during this playoff run. Look at all those sweet lefty scoop layups when defenders were trying to stick close to guard his patented turnaround. If he couldn't punish their over-comitment to his jump shooting, he'd have lost a lot.

He's firmly in the top 20 of all time only because he didn't win multiple rings. Had he won another ring or two, he'd easily be top 15, imo. Mavs failed him by not giving him better teams and the refs robbed him in 06. Dirk and Nash should have at least won 2 rings together. oh well, at least he got his one ring and it was the sweetest championship in recent memory.

Marco M KD got schooled by dirk and actually KD elevated his shot thanks to that dirk one leg fade away. What KD could have learned too is that Dirk gave his heart out to win those playoffs, KD threw OKC and Westbrook under the bus to win with a team that eliminated them on the conference finals when they were winning 3-1.... KD never had to give his heart out cuz he always had backup hence his 2 rings not being that much appraised by the league in general. He won it with the fucking GSW what a surprise 😂

They had an impressive roster that year, tremendous 3-pt shooters in Nowitzki, Stojaković, Jason Terry, also JJ Barea and Kidd are decent at 3-pointers...but Dirk was still absolutely the engine of that victorious 2010-11 Dallas team. Countless amazing performances, especially some of those point totals against OKC who featured three total superstars (Westbrook, Durant and Harden) of their own...congrats Dirk and thank you for that amazing run! As I write this he is probably in his final season. Maybe one more year...his best is behind him, but his performances in the 2011 playoffs are immortal!

This is no doubt one of the, if not the greatest playoff run by a player and a team in NBA history. Dirk is a GOAT and in my top two favorite players of all time behind MJ. What he did throughout his career with no superstar teammate and only a one-time All-Star in Josh Howard early in his career is remarkable because everyone else had a sidekick or two and he was loyal to Dallas. He will forever be loved for what he did on and off the court and the statue they built for him is well-deserved.

When people talk shit about LeBron during this period it's not because of "The Decision", it's because of his performance in this Finals. Him and Dwayne laughing at Dirk, making fun of his illness is all you need to see or know about that year's Heat. The media had already given them the title before they played a game, and they played like they were waiting for the coronation the entire series. Nobody took the Mavs seriously. Meanwhile, Dirk and the Mavericks were hell bent on finally making a Finals appearance after years of futility in the playoffs (with three of the previous four years ending in the first round, including the 6th seed '07 Warriors shocking the world against a 67 win Maverick team). Everything finally came together for them, and it was an amazing thing to see. One of the all-time great players.
