His loyalty to Dallas really is the greatest thing about Dirk! Hes one of the greatest to ever play in the NBA! Its not just him sticking with the mavs his entire career... Its the pay cuts hes taken over & over again to try & do whats best for team is most Impressive... I think Dirk n Duncan went back n forth trying to do whats best for their teams in terms of staying & the contracts they would take when they both even in their last yrs could still get MAX $ if they really wanted it.... Right now at 40 yrs old if Dirk wanted 30M+ per yr from Cuban he would get it! Or whatever the Max is per yr for someone like Dirk!

I've lived in Dallas since 1994. I'm the same age as Dirk too. When Dirk was younger every blue moon I'd hear from somebody they saw him out at a club or a bar having a good time, usually with Steve Nash. Not a lot, just every so often. I never heard about Dirk being a jerk or anything to anyone. He just liked to get his party on when he was younger. Then about the time the Mavs made the Finals in '06 & lost, you really didn't hear much good about Dirk in the media. I think Dirk was still a great guy, but it was obvious that he became more secluded, more private & definitely focused on bringing home a title. Plus, the media & fans were very frustrated with Dirk & the Mavs at that time. From '06 to '11, you would start to hear respect for Dirk. Definite respect for his loyalty to the franchise. Respect for him as a great player, still questions about could he lead a team to a title... and then they won!! That's really when the love affair with Dirk & Dallas began. It's a little sad to me from the standpoint that Dirk is & always has been a great human being and that it would take a title for people to really talk about what a great person he was so much. Still, things couldn't have worked out better. I've lived in Dallas for close to 25 years, the entire time Dirk has been here & I've never heard anything but the absolute best from anyone whose ever told me they had an interaction with him. I listen to a local Sportsradio station, and Dirk has been coming on the midday show for an hour once a year for the past 20 years. They talk about him in glowing reviews & they're honest. If Dirk were an asshole, they'd say so in not so many words, but they always talk about what a great dude he is, just down-to-earth, just a guy, who's just a guy, just an average dude who happens to be anything but average on the basketball court. I think Dirk is maybe one of the greatest people to ever play professional sports, and it's just a bonus that he happens to be one of the best hoopers to ever do it. #41 #MFFL

Organizations ditch players who suck all the time..look at how miami ditched wade ...when he was still good..they did it early....why cant the player show free movement...thinking like Dirk aka loyal to 1 team is why he only won 1 title...someone of his skills deserved 3-4 rings and by staying in Dallas he cost himself being a top 10 ever which is he but because of rings he won't be on Larry birds level...this dude is 6th all time in scoring......yet we won't put him or karl Malone whose second all time in scoring in our top 10 cause they have little rings and Malone also played in 1 city for 19 years ....and for most neither are even in the top 15.. its dumb but reality...fans claim staying in 1 place made Dirk a top 20 all time player and his title is worth more than what Durant or LeBron did but in reality it didn't and you realize he only won 1 title in 20 years there ..guys like LeBron and Durant by moving will win 3-4 rings...think about that ...2 nba finals...hasn't won a playoff series since that title 6 years ago...he would have a better legacy if he pulled a kd kg or LeBron....Kobe threatens to leave and got gasol ....that's how this works ...lets say Dirk chocked or got hurt or someone else made a clutch shot on his team or on the heat to beat him or they chocked now Dirk is ringless and remembered as a choker which he was for 6+ years ...and since...you may think its great but Dirk has exactly 1 playoff series wins out of 7 since losing the 2006 finals up to 2018 besides the 4 he won in 2011 of course with now about to be 5 seasons where he missed the playoffs and he's only made the conference finals 3 times and 2nd round 6 times....that's 14 wasted years ..

Easy for Kobe to say. The Lakers had TWO 25 yr old all stars when Kobe got there (Shaq & Eddie Jones). And he spent his career in LA, which was a tie breaker to a lot of contracts signed. Kobe is the guy who talks about how hard it was being raised by a poor single mom, and fails to mention that his lawyer dad lives 2 blocks away, pays $5K a month in child support, and takes them on vacations a few times a year. GTFOH.

I've been a mavs fan my whole life and I never hurt as much as it in did in 2006 losing those 4 games in a row and nothing felt better than in 2011. I love me some Dirk

Mad respect for Dirk. He carried an NBA team to the finals and won against a good team. He did that mostly by himself. No excuses this man is super underrated.

Jason Kidd was my favorite athlete growing up, one day when he played a road game in Dallas as a member of the Suns, he ignored a security guard telling him I wasn't standing in an approved area, and he went out of his way to sign multiple items for me! Over the moon that the one chance I had, my favorite player came through with flying colors and didn't let me down! As for Dirk, by all accounts he was the nicest superstar in the NBA.

The MOST humble champ of all time, doesn't need to call himself "The King, The Chosen One." WHAT a joke lmao. And he still gets bigger ovations :D - YOU'LL ALWAYS be my GOAT Dirk!! And you're def an honorary TEXAN to us!! LOVE YOU! 1:40 Kobe knows what time it is!! "Tough shot." :D Kobe you're my number 2! Legends know legends!

I'm proud to have Dirk as my legend. He had the greatest playoff run by a superstar ever. That one chip is worth 3 at least. Beat all the top players in the league in one go without another allstar.

He is among the greatest ballers of all time. But in his own class, which adds personality, he is the undisputable GOAT. True role model. I'm still so amazed that he got all the cheers in almost every away arena. No one ever achieved such a thing.

Can't wait for Dirk to join Shaq & Charles at the broadcasting table. Great ambassador for the sport. Class act a blessing for Luka to land in Dallas and have him as his mentor. Thank you, Sir, for the great memories
