The sport here called Handball is actually called team handball in English speaking countries. Handball generates around 4.8 million € per club in the first German league while basketball stands at 4.4 million €. Attendance is equal with 4500 per game on average. With these numbers the first league is comparable to the third league in association football. So the idea to switch from team handball to basketball was one not for the money.

@TyroneNBAFan Right, BUT: in Germany Baskettball is NOT one of the top sports, but HANDBALL is the #2 played sport there. Baskettball ranks somewhere behind Soccer, Handball, gymnastics, track & field and tennis!

The CNN "X's and O's" guy is a classic closed minded basketball thinker: "Dribbles it up the court, then gives it off to a guard like he's supposed to."
