Just did spark plug, air filter, oil, oil filter, new grips and lubed cables. Feels like a new bike after being neglected for a few years. Engine seems a lot happier and more responsive. Not sure if it was the blogged air filter or spark plug, but it's definitely running a lot better now.

I wouldn't tighten chain on stand, I did this once and luckily i stopped a few hundred meters down the road for another issue, and saw my chain was tight AF, I think having no weight on the bikes suspension/swaybar makes more slack in the chain, so when you take it off the stand it stretches out and gets even tighter. Happened to me anyway haha.
@DanMX21122 жыл бұрын
Hey man, I appreciate the comment! I wanna give you what the manual says rather than just tell you to take my word for it lol Every Dirtbike I have ever worked on has the same procedure, involving elevating the rear wheel off the ground and allow the suspension to be unsprung and unloaded. Here is what Yamaha actually recommends as an example, straight from the manual. 1. Elevate the rear wheel by placing a suitable stand under the engine. 2. Check: Drive chain slack above the seal guard installation bolt. Out of specification: Adjust Drive chain slack: 48-58mm (1.9 a 2.3in) Hope this helps, and always refer to your manual for specs!
@BowIsDemise2 жыл бұрын
@@DanMX2112 Yeah right! I understand that completely. Just odd that I just tightened a little bit like you did and it went totally stiff! I figured it was looser when on a stand, I stand corrected, thanks! :)

so the clutch shares oil with the engine? You would think that would compromise the oil from clutch particulate.
@DanMX21123 жыл бұрын
Correct it does, and for this reason is why we change oil so regularly on MX bikes compared to ride bikes or anything else with a wet clutch, is due to the abuse. Also the reason I run Rotella T4 15-40, it’s cheap, more than adequate, and always available. It also doesn’t contain friction modifiers so it’s perfect for wet clutch’s! Thanks for watching!

Do you have to unscrew both bolts for the oil drainage? I only unscrew the one on the bottom Idek about the other screw . I have a 08 yz450
@DanMX21123 жыл бұрын
Yes you do, one is for the sump and the other for the clutch side case. Oil gets trapped in both. Commonly missed item, then leads to overfilling of not done correctly.
