I know I'm way behind and this video is almost 9 years old, but if you're still at BB, THANK YOU!! I change a lot of road tires and have a No Mar for that, but it's too much of a pain for dirt bike tires. I have the exact same stand as in this video, but I don't go through them enough to remember all the tricks. Technique is a big factor. This is the first time I've seen someone recommend standing the tire up on the floor and spooning it off. That was awesome!! Do not forget the valve stem wire puller thing. Haha. Anyway, my tire change wasnt "easy" but they were better than in the past. If I did more than one set every 6 or 8 months, I'd be way better!!

@rumad1910 жыл бұрын
Im no expert but I've done a couple and I find grabbing the valve between your 1st and 2nd fingers like holding a cigarette but a closer the the finger nails with the tube on the upside of your hand works well, I make the gap a bit wider with my left hand and just push my valve cigarette deep into the gap curl my fingers a little and slot the valve in, takes seconds :)

Thats literally the only reason I was watching this is to try and find a better way of lining up the valve stem. I find if im really having a bitch of a time like with a stiff tire and heavy tube you can use the tire iron to pry BOTH sides of the bead to the outside of the rim. then your not fighting the bead trying to drop into center right where your valve stem goes.
@discflight7 жыл бұрын
Yep I chuckled then too! I find not too much air in the tube for that part then add a bit more once stem through rim. I'd love to hear anyone else's good way... ✌️

Thank You sir. I had not changed a new motocross tube in 40 years (I recently got back into riding) but I took on the challenge and got it done in one evening. Besides your information two things I learned. Once one side of the tire is opened, install the valve stem otherwise it will be harder to align and install later on. When installing the time on the rim, go down one side to get past the tire lock. The tire will be harder to install the remaining portion of a tire if you have to work in the area of the tire lock.

In 16 years of riding dirtbikes I finally changed a tire on my own a few hours ago. The best tip I can give is to keep pressure on one side of the tire with a spoon while you're working with the other spoon on the other side. It really is that easy. And like Steve said, lube is key.

Consider using the new tire (or an old tire) placed underneath the old tire/wheel as a cushion when jumping on the old tire to break the bead. It minimizes or eliminates contact of the disc/sprocket with the floor/ground.

Best freakin "how to change a dirtbike tire" video on here. This guy makes that motocross tire look like it is made of silly putty. The Dunlop D606 DOT tires I run on my WR250R are way stiffer and about ten times more difficult to wrangle onto the rim. One last step I would suggest is to check your bead all the way around on both sides after you have it all mounted to make sure it seated properly. 1/10 times it won't seat right and I have to take my spoons and work the bead out around the edges

Had to watch this today while changing the rear tire on my 2001 honda xr200r I just bought. Pretty sure the old tire was original and super stuff. Had to use a cutoff wheel to saw the tire in half to get it off, there was just no prying it off. But once one side was off the other wasnt too bad. Got the new tire started, tube in and fought like crazy getting the valve stem through because the new tire is still quite stiff. Fought me the whole way and I'll be super lucky if I didnt pinch the tube. Guess I'll see if it still has air in the morning lol.
@berube3615 жыл бұрын
@Derek Gardin Unfortunatly the tube did pinch and lost air. I found out after getting the tire on that it had a date code from 2006 so despite being new it was older and explained why it was a bit stiff. Took it to my local shop and he got a tube in no issue since he has a proper stand and better tire spoons.

So after the tire is on do you push the tire lock in a bit to make sure its above the bead then tighten?

I too am new to changing tires. I tried this method today on my son CRF 150 and fell short today. I was able to put a new tire on the front rim but blew through the tube installing it. went to put air in it and heard a lit of air everywhere. the back tire came off easy. just like a bicycle would come off but putting the new tire baxk on... yeah didn't work well. my guess is I didn't have the proper length spoons or not enough lube on or both. anyways baxk to bringing the tires and rim baxk to the shop for now. like anything I guess I need more practice.

+Rico Hey Rico, Moto and off-road riders very rarely balance their wheels, but more and more dual-sport riders are doing it. They spend more time on pavement and carry higher speeds for longer. It helps the tire last longer, but also reduces vibration and fatigue at the handlebars. Thanks for watching our videos and the question. You're a subscriber to our channel, right? Ride safe. BB.com!

Need some help, I won a tire from Dunlop a mx52 100/90-19 but my bike calls for a 110/90-19. Would there be a ride difference in traction and performance? My rim is 2.15 wide. 250 2stroke application.
@bikebandit10 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Nockideneh Hey JN,Usually 110's will go onto a 250 2 stroke or a 450F's, and 100's will go on 125 2 strokes and 250F's. Rims sizes are the same on both bikes. You're not going to do any harm by running a 100, but remember that your bike makes roughly 50% more power so you might not get all your power to the ground due to spinning up the tire.
@jonathannockideneh403810 жыл бұрын
Would it be best to run less psi in the tire to get traction? Application use is for arenacross
@bikebandit10 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Nockideneh JN,You're still running a tire that is too skinny for optimal traction, as it's too peaky and lacking the roundness of the footprint profile. Lowering the tire pressure will get you better traction, but AX is brutal and the landings from the jumps as well as the whoops greatly increases your risk of a pinch flat, thus a DNF, and those suck.

When I got done putting my rear tire on I noticed the brass washer fell off the valve stem is it going to cause any problems ?
@bikebandit10 жыл бұрын
Hi AK,On a tube, there is only one brass washer, and that is molded into the bottom of the stem where it attaches to the tube itself. My guess is that you're thinking of the second nut, but for now we'll call that a washer.Is there are chance that the washer fell into the tire, between the tire and the tube? Then there is a chance you could get a flat, as there is a piece of metal next to the tube. If it fell on the floor, or got discarded, then you're probably going to be OK. So much depends on the tire, tire pressure, and how you ride. Really too many variables to make a 100% determination. No damage though should occur to the actual wheel itself.
@TEAMCREAM_9610 жыл бұрын
okay thank you, it just fell on the floor

Probably wouldn’t hurt to put a little heat on the tire (ie let it sit in the sun or let it sit in front of a garage heater) depending on the temperature could really make a difference sometimes
