I went down the mounting plate option for the ER32 collet to allow for 20mm rods to go all the way through but I've really not needed that facility (yet). That is a very well made draw bar solution just the same. I loved the soft jaw magnets! Always learning on your channel, Thank you.

Michael, the turning test and flipping the bar was a really tough task to get to those numbers, well done.

Non, je ne regrette rien …….outstanding 🤣 Although a backing plate with an ER 32 collet wouldn’t need a draw bar and it’d fit 20mm stock. But great to watch as usual……..thank you.

Well done, and very nice proof of accuracy. This is exactly what I have been planning for my collet chuck , which presently has a solid draw bar. Enjoyed, cheers!

A lot of good solutions. Subscribed! I wouldn't have thought a Proxxon lathe was rigid enough for that kind of work.

I want All German Components for my CNC, alas I have a Chinese budget. However I am pleased to state that the Chinese components in my Australian designed and built machine give me 20 micron accuracy (Good enough for me. ). Yes I know many machines from Germany have 1micron accuracy and kudos to the skilled workers who build these machines.

Great saving using cheep Chinese parts, I've found some components are well worth the money and others complete dross you never know until they arrive, and some just need a little attention to improve them.

Please tell me, what's the name and composer of the piano music?
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff Жыл бұрын
The piano music is "Canto Ostinato", an improvisation piece by the Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt. It is written for 1 to 4 pianos. The score is not what you would expect, it is more of a collection of musical building blocks in an unusual ten/sixteenth time. The pianists can use the building blocks as they wish, and the duration of the piece is not fixed. There are versions that last 3.5 hours. Like more unusual minimalist music, it fascinates or repels, you like it or hate it, there seems to be no in-between.

Michel, you've made yourself a great adaptation, Congrats!! Had often wondered "why" Proxxon has chosen to only supply their "Euro collet" for the PD 400 but never an ER collet option? Curious as to why you didn't contemplate making an ER styled mounting plate like how the standard Proxxon collet version is? I'm assuming that by going with this MT3 option, all the ER features were there rather than having to make them from scratch. I own the PD 250/E which Proxxon makes a ER20 collet mounting plate option & found it to be a very good addition.
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff 2 жыл бұрын
I did contemplate that but the MT3 collet chuck was so cheap that I thought: let's try that first. And the first impression is that this chuck is precise enough. Have to test it more thoroughly though including all 24 collets.

Hello Michael. I bumped into this video just now , I allmost switched it off, due to that dreadfull depressing horible music, and no voice over. But hang in with me, I put my fingers in my ears and over some time, discovered how wonderful and amazingly good your vid was. I then went back and looked at your other vidoes and I now admire the scientific quality research you have put into your vids. I feel that you have now produced the best youtube Proxxon fine tuning vids out there. So I now have clicked the subscribe button plus the notification bell also. I look foward to more of yourvids . Hopfully with more suitable music that complements your subject. Thanks. Ian.

Thank you for your valued response and compliments and criticism Ian. It's funny, the music that you find so horrible here in the Netherlands is a well-known and appreciated composition by Simeon ten Holt. It's called "Canto Ostinato", and it's an improvisation piece. If you can endure even more audio torture, you might want to look it up. Imagine.. In this country, hundreds of people take a blanket or pillow and lie on the floor in a concert hall or other suitable location.. They close their eyes.. And they listen.. For two to three hours straight.. While four pianists play this hypnotic music together, reacting on each other.. I've been there a few times myself and enjoyed it immensely. But this is also very true: "De gustibus non est disputandum".

Thank you Michael, for responding. Well us australians, english and american people, must just have a different upbringing and taste. People from the Neatherlands have there own style and tastes, and that is good too. Have you considered doing voice over, as it would help with teaching the viewers on the very professional and techinical work you are doing. I am just trying to help you build your channel, because you are very good at your work. Thanks again. Ian

Did you have any issues milling the collet holder? I want to do something very similar and modify a holder to fit my spin fixture. You use a carbide mill right ?
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I used carbide inserts for the boring bar and outside turning and a carbide four flute endmill. For the threading however I used HSS, which I touched lightly with a diamond grinder a few times during the cutting to keep it sharp. Don't think however, that all collet holders have the same hardness. I think the better ones are (case) hardened up to 60 or so Rockwell C. With a quality insert you can still turn that, but not with HSS.
@AndySomogyi
@AndySomogyi 2 жыл бұрын
@@Michel-Uphoff I doubt they're case hardened because case hardeneing is lot more expensive than simply using high carbon steel and doing a basic heat and quench. I'm pretty sure they're all made out of some medium grade tool steel. Anyways, it's great to see a video like this and see others also modifying these.
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff 2 жыл бұрын
The cheaper ones probably not, but under the more expensive ones there are certainly case hardened (to 58-60 HRC) holders. Case hardening isn't expensive. I am preparing for a video about DIY case hardening, think it will be released in a week. For case hardened chucks See: tinyurl.com/5fverbw6 tinyurl.com/3xfzbbds tinyurl.com/y7cepe4m

It's possible to source Imperial ER collets to "fill in" gaps between the millimetre sizes i.e. a 3/8" collet will work well as a 9.5mm collet, better than torturing a 10mm collet by clamping it down really hard on a piece of 3/8" stock and distorting it. Sadly there are no cheap sources of hex and square-fit ER collets but then again they are kind of expensive for other collet formats such as 5C. I've put that soft-jaw with magnets trick in my mental toolbox, thanks.
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff 2 жыл бұрын
All ER collets (except the very small ones) have a clamping range of 1 mm. You don't distort a 10 mm collet when clamping a 9,1 mm rod, they are designed for that range.
@AndySomogyi
@AndySomogyi 2 жыл бұрын
@@Michel-Uphoff The collet set I bought came in imperial 1/32 increments which is interesting. It was about 20% more than the metric set, but came with more collets, so I'm guessing it might be grip better for in-between sizes.

The piano music is "Canto Ostinato" by Simeon ten Holt. It's a recording of 4 grand piano's. The pianists have to improvise on guidelines ten Holt wrote down. They did so for 3,5 hours. Here you can hear a short piece. The last seconds you can hear "Non, je ne regrette rien!" (no, no regrets at all!) by Edith Piaff. I tried to be funny..

Wil je nu nog beter draadsnijden, zet dan het beitelsupport onder de helft van de tophoek. Geef dan de aanzet met het beitelsupport. De draad wordt mooier doordat nu slechts 1 kant van de beitel snijdt en zo stabieler is.
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff 2 жыл бұрын
@ygevalk2665
@ygevalk2665 2 жыл бұрын
