@CheapBastard19883 жыл бұрын
@Dark Souls They were better value than Intel. On sale they were cheaper than dual core i3's, a lot faster in multi core performance and had a better GPU (nearly the same as the current gen AMD ones but on a larger transistor lithography). Also many laptops with the Zen architecture (mostly Lenovo ones) had single channel memory which really gimped performance. The HP Envy X360 on the other hand has always had dual channel memory. So it's faster than its competitors from that time with the same chip. But I was mainly looking for a good laptop with a very cheap CPU (it could have been a Celeron or Athlon for all I care). Because my mom wouldn't notice any CPU performance difference but would notice a crappy screen, crappy keyboard, crappy speakers and the lack of an SSD. She uses an external mouse so she wouldn't have noticed an awesome or crappy trackpad so this mediocre one is fine. It's usually in power saving mode but with the screen brightness up. The cooling fan hardly ever goes on. Still there are never hitches in performance but that is to be expected. Because even the 2.5W Intel Atom CPU's from 2014 could already run Windows and basic tasks without any problems (those chips were mostly held back by the often very cheap eMMC flash they were usually combined with).

So would you say that that 5-5500u is slightly worse than 7-5700U? I just can't see a VFM between those two.

Will you notice large performance gains by adding 16gb of Ram?
@marcasswellbmd69223 жыл бұрын
The way things are right now Intel and AMD are pretty on Par with each other. I don't think in a blind test you would be able to tell which is which, Pages and tabs open up similar both are quick in single and multi as long as core count and threads match.. I do prefer AMD tho it seems like you get more for your money with them.. Especially over the last 4/5 years..

Why do you keep talking about it beating the 1135G7, when its mostly beating all 11th Gen U series and sometimes the low end H series?
@andersjjensen3 жыл бұрын
Because the 1135G7 is found in similarly spec'ed and priced laptops.

Hey my Desktop is still using a 2700X with XFR on and I am totally happy with it.. The only thing I am missing is that 6800XT for 4K gaming.. God I wish I could find one for MSRP.. Loving all the Zen chips.. These new thin and lights are great though..
@alouisschafer72123 жыл бұрын
I also run an R7 2700 oced to 4Ghz. Totally alright CPU. Got an old Vega 56 tho which is reaching its limits. Although im still happy with it since is is the first Computer I ever had that can run AAA games in 1080p maxed out.

@@alouisschafer7212 I hear ya, I'm still using an RX480 LOL.. I am so pissed over the scalper pricing right now, because all I really need right now is a New GPU worth buying though..

Imagine if intel randomly mixed architectures within a product lineup. People already complained about comet lake vs ice lake
@mingyi4563 жыл бұрын
At least comet lake u provided better cpu performance (at least with the 10710u vs 1065g7) while ice lake u provided better igpu performance, so consumers can choose according to their needs. Zen 2 vs zen 3 is just zen 3 being better all round while zen 2 is cheaper and somehow more available.

12:56 dumb of amd to leave that gap for intel at a time when their products are so well positioned to take market share.
@WSS_the_OG3 жыл бұрын
I guess the lack of SMT on the 4000 equivalent part was deliberate market segmentation. That's so Intel-like. How things change.
@andersjjensen3 жыл бұрын
It's the problem with monolithic design, and it will never fully go away until they master the chiplet approach down to the single core and single cache block. Consumers expect to pay for the performance level they're getting, but AMDs expense on each chip is the same. Therefore they need to make a calculation on how to not cut into their top end sales with too good mid range products, and likewise not eat their midrange by making the low end too good... but only releasing three laptop CPUs (one in each class) won't fly with OEMs and SIs either, as they're the ones who REALLY insist on segmentation. They refuse to pair a top end CPU and GPU with in a budget chassis with a "good enough" display. Each component needs to be "in the same class" in their eyes, so if AMD wants to be represented from $400 laptops to $2500 laptops.. they need to have "something appropriate" for each "class". Otherwise they'll just put Intel chips in the missing slots.
