THANK YOU for making this video, TDP is really important for these PC Handhelds thath ave been coming out, would love if you could get your hands on a Radeon 780m powered APU to test this again!

Great video. You won a like! :) I think it would be also very interesting to see the optimun configuration for low watts: 6 vs 7 vs 8 vs 10 vs 12. I think 5 needs to be out of the list because it has been proven here that its not stable.

Excellent vid as always! Do you think there would be such a noticeable difference if I lower tdp from stock 15 to 10 or 5w? I think mi laptop is overkill for my job (text processors and light web browsing, maybe a KZbin tab playing music) and I would appreciate some more hours of use. At the moment I have it set to maximum battery saving mode and it gives me around 7/8 hours of use

Like shown in video for low power single core wins, more power more cores add to performance.

Thank you for clearing this out!, I just have a question in terms of longevity of the laptop hardware, Would the 25w TDP affect the my laptop when my laptop's having 15w by default? I have a HP Probook 445r G6 - Ryzen 5 Pro 3500u.

With some tweaks I managed to get Division 2 to run at 60fps personally, but I've also changed a few things with my system. Dell Inspiron 15 5515 CPU: Ryzen 5 5500u (duh) RAM: 32GB 3200Mhz In-game settings: 1600x900 resolution at 50% scaling. Everything set to low, getting a stable 60 with some stutters down to around 55 in the worst case scenarios.

@@picklebf0114 I gave my younger brother the laptop for Uni, but if I remember correctly I was pulling around 60fps at 1280x720 or maybe even 1920x1080. I just know that I did play it a fair bit.

A v good video!! Can I ask how did you adjust tdp ?? Its in a laptop / mobile apu where we have limited possibility to tune these settings and ryzen master doesnt work with mobile apus. Also nice to see it performing better at 15w-25w but higher power should give more results right, is it throttling due to enclosed in a laptop where we have limited cooling ?? Also why did you skip 20w, i know but is there any tech limitation or issue ?? Ideal is to have 15-20w for better performance. This is a very good feature to tweak these both in desktop and laptop but especially in laptop it helps to save battery based on workloads although changing it frequently is not that good. Would be interesting to see similar with intel 11 gen !!

Is it better to use the balanced preset in AMD Tuning Utility (Which is 22W TDP), or make my own 25W TDP preset? Now that I think about it, 22W is basically 50% more TDP than 15W. So 25W is about 55% more which is like no difference. Also I noticed that even in the most stable game, 16 ms is the best frametime you can get at 60 fps. So the closer you can get to 16 ms, the better the frametime. When you ran Bannerlord, I noticed the frametime got lower when you increased the TDP which is great.
@EVOTech1 Жыл бұрын
I think the balanced preset is more than fine enough. it pretty much gets you most of the performance while keeping temps in check. if you have a good cooling system then the performance preset with a tdp of 28W is the most ideal. it really seems like most games will at most use 27-28W in most cases even with a much higher TDP just do to clock speed limits on the iGPU and CPU. but again the diminishing returns are really hard after 25W to the point where it doesn't seem to be worth the much higher temps and noise.

I wonder if at too low wattage for this cpu (5Watt) starts to malfunction the cache, making it to goto to the RAM more often thus making the huge performacne difference from 5Watts to 10Watts compared to the other increases
@Dr_Z3NlTH Жыл бұрын
My laptop can boost the 5500u to 37w with the "best performance" preset and that gives me a score of ~7700 in Cinebench R23. However, that is possible only with the use of a cooling pad to sustain such TDP for any meaningful time as temps don't exceed 82°C

what brand and model? Mine can only hold 35w for a bit and drops to 32w.
