Thanks for the video , Having a monitor at 100-240hz I can see the point of having V sync OFF mostly u never get more than 144 fps on modern games so I can see the point. But as I said some people care about Image quality more than HZ . All the premium IPS Ultrawide panels 3440x1440 or more are mostly 60-75hz So Vsync is the only way to use these monitors , because if u go over that fps u get tearing and if u go lower u got stuttering in some poing . So the only way is to test the game graphics settings to have minimum 60 fps and then Lock them with V-sync or Cap them via any program anyone wants. But unfortunately there is No Perfect Solution .

exactly. I wish more companies would do the same settings menu as was in recent Resident Evil 2 remake. Not only there were good descriptions to everything but also pictures and animations so that you would instantly know and see what the setting impacts and how it looks. absolutely amazing and should be in every game.

From what I remember from DR 1 Advanced Blending makes a huge improvement on the way trees and foliage looks but the fps impact is also huge... first thing I turned off on DR 2.0, my 980 ti is so old now. Great video! Thanks!

On an i7 4790K and GTX 1660 I can run it at 75fps (75Hz monitor) locked, with loads of stuff turned down. GPU usage around 60-70%, CPU usage around 30%. But, it STUTTERS every so often which is horrible. And it isn't due to my system (I troubleshooted it and the GPU and CPU do not spike during these stutters).

Did more testing. if your going to use TAA your better off switching your MSAA to 0x TAA tends to blur the whole image and there isn't much noticable jaggies one of the most demanding stages i found was if you select Argentina in TIme attack and choose the heavy rain selection. I've set everything to maximum except for Ambient Occulusion which is set to high. Crowds I also found drops the FPS a bit so have set that down to medium overall the game is pretty demanding. but i guess that depends on the stage, the weather effects etc

I’m actually surprised that at 1440p the 1080Ti would not get higher FPS and be able to run higher settings. Do not get me wrong 100 is bloody good, but it shows how graphically intensive it is, and it has me thinking that Dirt Rally 2.0 VR is going to suffer just like the first one, because they have too many bells and whistles within the graphics engine. Not sure for what the "Advanced Blending" is for, but in DR1 it is off even on Ultra preset. I have AMD Vega 64 and when I turn that on in DR1, the game consistently crashes to desktop during first minute of racing.

FPS is the exact same on any settings, starts at 60fps then goes down to 20 FPS for a minute then goes back up to 60fps. I think it’s due to my cpu throttling, but it’s very annoying that my FPS is the same on high than it is on low. Is there anyway I can cap my FPS at like 50fps or something

This really doesn't address the problem of ground cover stuttering. In Dirt Rally, if you have ground cover turned on AT ALL, you will get stutter from it, and it creates all of the stutter. It's not the case that you should turn it on low. You have to turn it off, because it is ALL of the stuttering that gets blamed on cars and people. Look on SteamVR performance graph. Ground cover being on at all causes all of the stuttering around crowds, and you can't avoid it. It's not about framerate. So the only way to get smooth is by having no grass and looking terrible. So it's a game breaking bug. So we need to know if it does that in 2.0.

4x MSAA is a good compromise for those with mid range graphics cards. 2x for something older or weaker like a 960. TAA will help clean up remaining jaggies.

Vsync introduces input lag which is something you really don't want in a game like this. Also, most people use freesync or g-sync which makes this setting almost obsolete

I think I had v-sync off by default. But I didn't like it at all. I got some kind of constant tiny microstutters - no distinctive lag spikes but motion just didn't seem fluid. Turning on v-sync made it silky smooth. (60Hz screen with Radeon RX480)

Vsync will make it smooth but it also causes input delay and lag. If you have vsync off and you don't have a gsnc or freesync screen then you will get some stutter if the game runs slow. Generally with a 60hz screen with vsnc off you need the game to be running at 90-100fps or so to get a smooth image with minimal stutter or taring. This is why freesync and gsync are so awesome , you get the smoothness of vsnc but without the delay.

You could have the best display in the world but if it's 60hz I'm pretty sure running with vsync on will cause a ton of visual lag between input and action on screen. Might not notice it if playing with a gamepad or keyboard though. Or if you have never had a super responsive game/screen. It's like if you go from 60hz-100hz gaming screen it makes the 60hz screen feel as if its almost stop motion lol.

DIrt 2.0 is in need of proper optimization, I was able to play both Dirt Rally & Dirt 4 on Max Graphics settings with more than 60fps on my 1070. It's still fairy early days but I should have expected better optimization from codemasters. They have been doing this since the first Colin McRae Rally game came out in 1998.

shadows are often individual preference in games, the setting usually has none to do with mow many shadows just the softness or sharpness. in shadow of tombraider medium was better than ultra, and high was garbage worse than low...

Hello there friend. Ive been struggling with the infamous stutter aswell. after long troubleshooting i found that my buttox box(an old diy gamepad) if connected it stuttered. Try removing usb input devices one by one and see if u get rid of it. if any other input device doesnt help. remove the wheel and play with a kb for a run and see if it stutters. if it stutters with the wheel then tough luck. Codies will need to do something about it. But this seems to be a problem from 2015 on all of their titles. good luck

In Windows go to Device Manager -> HID -> USB input device -> disable one. Be careful, you might disable mouse or keyboard but this should do the trick. I disabled second USB input device and problem was gone completely.

Why not using a Vsync ?People with a Proper 10BIT Ultrawide Monitors can go only about 75HZ not more at 3440x1440 . So if anyone has an IPS 3440x1440 10BIT monitor (there is no 10bit IPS Gsync monitor) Vsync ON is the only way to play a game without Frame problems tearing … So Frame cap or Vsync is the Only way .

V-sync is for 60hz screens and not for higher. The Higher screen you have, the more you will suffer that unexplained input lag or something :D For example; My 60hz TV with the hdmi that V-sync is helping the framerates go smooth for your eyes somehow :) Also: I have over 100fps in the game normally but still it looks like I have low fps when I have 60hz screen. And Yes, I have a cheap TV 1080p 60hz for a screen if you think over that :D

I guess Vsync eliminates the tearing on a monitor, setting refresh rate to match your monitor helps but it doesn't eliminate the effect. With vsync on, you get slight input lag but it doesn't matter in racing games that much. It's only visible/you can feel it playing fast paced games like FPS or fighting games.

What u should not do settings guide :) . Mode : window , Ratio: auto , V sync off (without A-sync a tearing heaven) , Motion Blur in this title must be on mostly on Ultrawides or big screens ,the blur tech in this game its only applied on the edges of the screen at the peripheral vision , (like RaceRoom) blur is bad agreed but it depends by the implement and the distance from the screen, Blurriness on the left right sides and clearness on the center is a technique that is softer for the eyes and the brain.

Interesting watching this video... I have only recently discovered Dirt Rally 2, as it was added to Xbox Game pass, and plays fantastic in Native 4K on the Xbox 1X. This made me blindly purchase it on PC, thinking it has to be better on PC right ? WRONG.. The game runs like crap on PC with stutters everywhere, input lag and generally a bad experience. OH but settings blah blah BS. So let me give this first before people go ahead and blame my Potato PC. Ryzen 7 3900x, RTX2080ti , 32GB 3200 RAM. It's not a super computer but it can run every game currently on the market with good results. For Diry Rally 2 I am Running 4K Ultra = 90+ FPS, 1440p = 140+FPS and 1080p = 200+ FPS. GPU usage never gets above 80% in 4K ultra, CPU usage never gets above 20% in 4K ultra. And yet still the game stutters, runs slow and generally feels CRAP compared to the XB1X.

100FPS is good target for perfectly smooth gameplay and response, always aimed for 100-120 with CSGO , CS , quake and anything that's somewhat competitive as you want it to be perfectly smooth with worse case dropping to say 80.

vsync is trash. If you want no tearing get a gsync or freesync monitor or play uncapped. Vsync always causes input lag, also at 120hz. In Dirt its probably ok, but in a shooter you would still feel it.

Dirt Rally 2.0, like its predecessor, offers classic MSAA in 2 ×, 4 ×, and 8 × stages. However, the optical gain is low, because the entire vegetation is not processed at all and therefore the game flickers extremely. At the same time, the performance costs are high. While MSAA comes from the EGO Engine 2.0 - that alone is a pretty sure sign that Dirt Rally 2.0 still uses the old technology - but also an anti-aliasing algorithm from the EGO Engine 3.0 has crept into the game

HDMI does not run at 100fps. It even shows in the upper right hand of the recording: 60fps! Also Vsync can be useful for those that want to avoid tearing which can be distracting when in motion. Especially for those without Enhanced sync and such, Vsync is mostly bare bones, but very effective for steady framerate, which I could have sworn was what the title of this video referred to.

this settings has destroyed my dirt rally 2. these are the worst setttings
