Thank you! Was having such a hard time with the RWD class and this certainly helps tame the ridiculous amount of oversteer on throttle, well, that and setting the gearbox up to not be so short.

These cars really do show how difficult rally driving was in the old days, not to mention the Group B monsters, but it's so rewarding once you get the throttle modulation right. Almost like surfing. Having said that, these settongs help a lot. Thank you.

The default for these are so aggressive is because people complained about too much understeer in the default tunes in DiRT 4's sim handling mode.

Pro tip: If you are on a controller - put stability control to 1-2 and forget about it. RWD cars are way too tail happy in this game considering you have no physical means to "feel" this slip until too late. Just use the assist and save yourself some salt. You will be slightly slower than with no assist but faaar more consistent. If you are pushing for Leaderboards go without stability and do 50 attempts or whatever. I personally play championships and can't afford the risk to spin out randomly just to get 1-2 seconds faster per stage. With a wheel it's better because you have more precise control of your angles, and you can avoid snap oversteer more reliably. Edit: Why is it so difficult to control -> Because oversteer is controlled by throttle and throttle control in Dirt 2.0 is terrible. You apply 25% throttle on your pedal set but RPM keeps climbing and reaches the rev limiter. It's basically impossible to have proper throttle control because you just can't reliably modulate the throttle. To stay 500 rpm below red line you need to be applying around 40% throttle which is nowhere near realistic. Why would a car have a throttle that can go 100% if you reach maximum RPM at less than half the distance. It makes no sense. Below 40% you can't even reach 2k RPM but magically at 41% climbs to red line. Try it and you will understand why RWD sucks.

I think I'm average with FWD and AWD, but bloody hell I've never been able to do more than 3 turns without crashing when driving a RWD, let alone complete a race. I always avoided RWD like the plague. Now thanks to your hints I was finally able to correctly drive a RWD. THANKS

The Escort is one of my favorite rally cars, so I wanted to make it my permanent main car in the H2 RWD class, but the handling was just killing me. I hope setting up the car will help. The problem is, I often even have problems in a straight line, the car just suddenly veering to the side. I hope with the right setup, I can manage the car better. If not, I'm better of switching to the Fiat.

Here is other tips. If the rear of the car is stable but keeps over steering through bumps, make the rear suspension softer. Same can be applied to the front suspension if the car understeers through bumps while the front is stable. One other trick is set balanced gear ratios as if the gear is too long, the car won’t turn fast enough to stabilise, if the gears are too low, the car will become unstable and you would spin. making the differential softer is the easiest way to solve this issue as in this video
@ronaldmockus25423 жыл бұрын
Honestly man all I can say is thank you I recently switched to a steering wheel setup with clutch and pedals and I had somewhat mastered the oversteer on controller but felt at a loss with the recent switch and this is made the cars feel so much better

Well with this mindset you can turn on driving assisst and use a controller or play nfs. The only thing I would change is the steering degree I know these cars were built with road car steering ratio in the 70's-80's I went from 1080/900 to modern 540 but it was too easy so I'm about to try a bit more maybe little less than 720. I have 3 pedals ebrake and a shifter it's harder but doesn't feel boring and I personally don't care about times I just want to have fun and sideways fun mainly

locked keeps the wheels from spinning at different speeds, and open lets the speeds differ on each side no? ive found that when i had the diff open and i would go into corners where one side had more grip than the other, the wheel that had less grip would spin way faster and cause the tail to go out. i.m.o. i dont like that since to me it felt unpredictable. so i keep it locked so its more consistent and do my best to modulate the throttle and braking as best as i can. I also set the front Anti roll bars to be firm and the rear ones soft, to me it helps alot

Cheers mate 👍🏻 I have an understanding of differential lock but didn’t realise that the game was that far out in regards to the ratio. I had been tweaking the diff to try and get more stability under acceleration but didn’t realise I could take the lock down that far. It’s made a huge difference.
@Cafferssss5 жыл бұрын
I use standard diff settings as I like to steer the car with the throttle quite a lot. Under braking I also use this to rotate the car to carry speed over slower turns. It can be tricky but I'm currently #9 global on tolt Valley sprint in rwd2

Rwd is all in how and where you throw the weight,if you are on a XB1 controller you can feel a lot of the slip in the triggers

I move the rear negative camber closer to zero. It helps. And stiffer front anti roll bar. Rear anti roll bar close to zero. Edit: Seven months since I made this post, I figured some new things to deal with oversteer in rwd: -Move rear ride height to near minimum. Raise it up by one or two increments if you keep running out of suspension travel. -Set rear spring to low. Like 25%. -Set rear damper extension and compression down to soft. Note: I only done it with rear engine mounted cars, I haven't done it enough with front engine layout cars, sorry! My thinking is have minimal damping on the rear since the engine is at the back of the car which is obviously heavy. It is unhelpful with both the engine weight and stiff dampers making the squashed spring to take even longer to return back to its normal length or neutral position. Try this with all RWD cars in Dirt Rally 2!
@sc185944 жыл бұрын
Theres so much more to be said about RWD tuning, thats like 1% of what can be done. EVERY rally you do play with the settings find what works in what conditions, while settings are not all obvious a tuned car is the difference between a 1st plane and ending up last and in a ditch. RWD cars are amazing.
@justinayers3589 Жыл бұрын
Also dont discount the controller settings. For some reason, my G920 had a 20% throttle deadzone as default. I would nudge the pedal, nothing. Nudge, nudge, nudge....boom, 0 to 20% throttle, would instantly spin the tires and I would lose traction straight or turning. Once I set it back to 0 the Escort mk II became way easier to control. Check your settings!

coming from the opposite perspective, RWD of any class has been by far my fastest "easiest" class. I'm easily in T1 in every daily with RWD despite using the stock setups. That said will opening up the diffs reduce the amount of power I can effectively put down assuming I can otherwise normally modulate the power just fine with them locked up? Sure I can get "on the power" harder and faster, but is this more about making them easier to control or actually faster? Just found your channel and appreciate your videos!

I will give this a try, thanks. I was really happy with how the Alpine performed in Dirt Rally 1.0, but I spun out ALL the time in Dirt Rally 2.0, and it wrecked my Clubman standing. Update: So, um, H2 RWD Alpine doesn't have a Differential tuning option. So that doesn't work.
