Regarding the voice, I love the way the navigator's delivery can vary and sometimes he almost sounds panicked. Apparently they actually strapped him into a motion rig and simulated the movement while he recorded his lines to make it sound more realistic.

I agree. I swear I can hear that, "oh shit" sound in his voice when I'm going a bit too fast into to a corner. It would be cool if he would also give you props when you pull off a sweet move. Nice.

too dry for me.. I feel like hes talking to me from the other side of the conference table.. needs a much harsher distorted mic with narrower frequency band and also it needs to be dynamically compressed by the sound of the engine and just FX it up a bit ... infact I turned his voice at 50% engine 75% and road surface noise 100% then i turn it up on my headphones and enjoy.

Codemasters are one of those OG studios you just have to respect. They know what they're good at and they simply do just that. Among the very few studios games of which I've played as a kid (Colin McRae 2.0 and onwards) and haven't lost trust in (looking at you, Bioware) . I can buy Rally, boot it up and say "yeah, that's my colin mcrae from Codemasters". Huge respect for those guys for doing what they do.

Hey Karacc, I think I know what you mean with the very specific weird car crash spin. From all the crash clips I've seen of Dirt Rally 2, it looks like they set (in their vehicle editing phase) the center of mass of the car in a really bad position along the vertical axis. I would say it's set really low, at the height of the chassis. The car rotation will be done around this center of mass, of course. Many games screw this very very simple thing (positioning of the center) and it immediately results in very wrong looking spins of the car when crashing and flying.

Funny enough i do think the music fits perfectly, i like the music itself, but other than preferences, i think it's functional to calm you down between the stressfull races, to me it was the best music selection in terms of functionality over all other codemaster racing games.

To everybody having performance issues with this game and really any of the other dirt games, try and lower the "crowd" option in the graphics settings first. For some reason it always makes these games tank. For example, my rig is a 1080ti with an i7 8700k processor. With crowd settings turned to ultra, I get frame drops (around the crowds) even in 1080p. With the crowd turned off I can run full 4k at above 60fps. Please pin this comment so people can see.

I love the Dirt games, by far my favorite racing games but it feels like were getting less content with each release. Dirt on PS3 had so many courses in different environments. I miss those U.K. town and Kenyan courses.

I liked DiRT Rally a lot. Especially because it also had a decent price (€26,99). DiRT Rally 2.0 is just some incremental improvements and new tracks, but the price increased to €54,99. That is 200% of the first game in the series. I will wait until the sale.

Love that the DS is in the game, that and the 1980 Quattro are my favourite looking cars ever. Yep a canal barge and a cardboard box, the fact they both look like a 4 year old's crayon drawing of a car is i think why i like them.

They've only announced season 1, but season 2 is likely to be more rallycross focused as per their initial teaser of releasing x amount of new rally and RX locations. Unfortunately the "new" locations are remakes of DR1 stages.

You will significantly increase the immersion by going with a minimal HUD. No co driver calls(voice only)no split times. Especially split times seeing that data actually messes your total time up because your over thinking the stage rather than just concentrating on driving the stage.

so i love dirt rally, and love it more for my psvr. BUT, what i really wanted, and that driveclub AND GT Sport allow us passive racers, who don't own a wheel (used to, not anymore) to use... is sixaxis motion control for steering. i can't find, anywhere, if this was implemented this year, but i highly doubt it. that, and the wait for snow (i feel ya) and psvr support, has me holding off on this one. great review, as always. thanks.

Codemasters......The legends of racing games! TOCA Racing 2 is the best racing game I've played, hours and hours of online play with mates and that was 2004!! Unfortunately the Dirt series, very good but never quite filled that hole that TOCA left. Colin McRae series, amazing!!! (I'm Scottish so that anyways made us so proud!) I bought the Dirt Rally Legend Edition that came with the Colin McRae Rally Legend bluray, nice touch and a very respectful nod to Colin and all the great really games they produced together. Codemasters, respect!! ❤️👍🏻And then there's the Micro Machines series, hours of laughter with friends racing around a pool table, darting around classroom desks or racing around the bathtub 🤣🤣 Looking forward to pulling my hair out playing Dirt Rally 2! 😁🤣 Great review as always ACG 👍🏻

Cant they freaking remake stages from CMR 1 to 2005, they made them, they can remake them for Dirt. Why is that old rally game had so many stages per country and they were so good and felt individual instead of rehashed corners and indentical tracks. You may not believe me but to this day i still play WRC2, WRC Evolved, CMR 4, Xpand Rally Extreme but mainly WRC Evolved. Also really enjoy SLRE, its such a fun game and reminds me of CMR2 with its kind of flat surfaces, great fun with a controller

5:12 there seems to be issues with the newer nvidia drivers in general, they seem less stable, especially for RTX cards. On Apex Legends I crash maybe 20% of the time on the newer drivers, and have gotten errors saying my "video card has been physically removed from the system". Switching to a driver from November fixes all of this.

Keep in mind that this is MUCH harder than Dirt 2 and more simulation than arcade. Also it got a lot less variety and is more "dry".

@@kriskater Dirt 4 is not a good game. The vehicles don't handle in a believable way. If you look at Dirt 2 they don't handle in a realistic way, but nevertheless in a believable way given the physics of the game. With that I mean that they follow a certain set of rules, which is not the case in Dirt 4. Also the randomized tracks in Dirt 4 are just bad.

Last year I spent less than 50€ on games in total. But it's no permanent situation. I'm just a student.

at 15:30 the track degredation/ ground/ reflection quality is remarkably better on his than what it looks like on mine with everything on its highest setting - I have a gtx 1060.. SO does the RTX series have additional graphics settings to enable? I dont think this game has Raytracing support , so am I missing a higher level shader model? also unlikley as this is set by direct x of which the 1060 has full compatibility. anyone else care to test!?

Very specific random opinion: I honestly think the only racing sim that got music correct was Gran Turismo 5 with its calm, almost classical sounding background music. It fit well and felt nice listening to while I shopped for a 2J.

Wow, so you found the FFB sooo good? Which wheel do you use if I may ask? If you go to reddit you’ll see a lot of people complain about lack of road texture and bumps feeling on all mainstream wheels.

Ya usually folks do go to those places if they are having problems but they were working fine with me. i only had 3 wheels to check though, Thrust 150, Fantec*can't remember name, and Logitech

Great review as always. Many people saying a big problem right now is that even Career mode is mandatory always online and people can't get into career mode, can't get into the garage and losing the progress they have because connection is lost and it resets. I wish Codemasters only the best and to make a great game, but with the above mentioned problem and season pass blunder I'm not supporting this at launch.
