I always shake my head at the people who twist the throttle while trying to start their bike. On a carbed bike you just flood it and it gets harder. On FI you should never touch the gas while starting and if you have to then something is wrong. I love this channel keep making videos like this! Maybe you can make a video how to bleed brakes? Dirt N Iron It's a 2009 kx85 that I got for 1000 with aftermarket steering stabilizer and and linkage and it just had the top end rebuilt and came with the old piston which had no ridges in it or anything basically perfect spare top end and very very powerful powerband. I haven't ridden it anywhere near it's full potential or top speed. Very scary powerband when starting out but I'm getting used to. Awesome bike and fits me great. I’ve shown so many people that just kick and kick and kick their bike like it’s a 2 stroke. When you hear a whoosh sound that’s your intake valve sucking and closing, there a little notch or click in the stroke just past that sound. That’s the piston beginning it’s compression stroke. This is where you bring it to the top and kick all the way through don’t stop, don’t have to kick hard usually just all the way. Bike started 95% of the time this way(until valves need adjusted) now if you have a manual decompression lever it won’t work. Worked on a 2006 yz450, 2013 yz250f, 2015 yz250f, 2014 rmz450, 2017 crf250 that I can think of. So yeah you don’t bring it to TDC like a 2 stroke. You have to ram the piston into the compression stroke so it will fire.

Purpose of hot start function on fuel injected bike?
@yukonjon59644 ай бұрын
when an engine is hot it needs a leaner mixture. at start up, the efi system has not had time to sense and decide its condition, if hot or cold etc. so you decide for it. when cold you pull the choke type button so it starts easier, when hot you pull the hot start lever which leans it out a bit and keeps the richer default starting setting of the efi from flooding it. when really hot, it will start better with the hot start lever held.

I am not sure, hope your engine is ok. does the bike run?

Thanks for the reply, The bike runs well,I can start it by kicking but it's jammed at the beginning,so I need to push really hard to release it and then I can kick it easily.

I have a crf 150r and it dosnt wanna stay idling when it warms up and when it first start it idles really high tried cleaning the carb changed the spark plug played with the idle no matter what it won't run right and it is a pain in the ass to start would you have any suggestions? It's a 2015
@dirtniron7 жыл бұрын
+Sundown Camaro your pilot circuit might need some adjustments. Try to play with air / fuel screw.. or maybe even go size smaller on the pilot jet. Does it feel little rich from the bottom?
@sundowncamaro11027 жыл бұрын
No it runs fine no spitting or sputtering just won't stay idling I did have to take it to the shop because of timing
@dirtniron7 жыл бұрын
+Sundown Camaro make sure your timing and valve clearence are good. Then check your jetting, play with fine carb tunning. That's what I would do.. it's kinda hard to know what it is, I would need to play with it to know more.
@sundowncamaro11027 жыл бұрын
I will do that tomorrow and let you know how it goes thank you so much good to see someone that likes to help there subs keep it up love your content
@dirtniron7 жыл бұрын
Thanks bro, hope that helps. Try to lean it out on the pilot circuit I think you have fuel screw on he carb so go in little by little and see what it does. It should raise your rpm, once your rpm stop reacting that's usually good spot.

I have the same bike you have rmz 450 why my bike smoke when is cold is that normal ? In a 4t bike ?
@dirtniron7 жыл бұрын
Hector Rodriguez that's probably valve seals. is the smoke little bit blueish ?
@kipadjiqta7 жыл бұрын
Hey man! I got a Honda crf250r one week ago but when i start it cold and almost rev limit it there is a blue smoke coming out. Should i sell it or keep it? I don't thing its the valves because i can start the bike with hand cold and warm. Thanks!
@dirtniron7 жыл бұрын
sounds like you might need new top end. and possibly check the valve seals as well. Does it smoke once its warm?
@kipadjiqta7 жыл бұрын
i will check that tomorrow. if it doesnt smoke when its cold what should i do?
@dirtniron7 жыл бұрын
tell me when it smokes. are you warming it up? dont rev it high right after it starts, 4 strokes need some time to warm up on choke and idle.

I'm new to dirt bikes and I need to know the proper starting procedure for my crf 230f 2005. I'm familiar with 2 stroke carbureted engines because I've got a couple Kawasaki 550 jetskis and my weedeater and blower. For those i just put the choke on until they pop then turn the choke off and let em get going easily then just get to the task. I've got a 2014 Honda grom and it's easy cuz efi it does everything itself. What I've been doing with my crf 230 has been turning on choke until it pops and let it run for a sec without using any throttle to start it, then I let it idle without choke. After a min I'll give it slow small revs smoothly and it runs cold for a sec then get going. Do I need to change anything with my crf 230 starting procedure please help as I don't wanna fuck anything up.
@dirtniron7 жыл бұрын
+Nicholstop : seems fine to me, you are pretty cautious. Warm up is important for 4 stroke. Keep doing it my friend!

I recently bought a 2014 YZ250F (fuel injection) in great condition, only about 12 hours on it. When I visited the original owner I asked him to have the bike cold so I can see how long/hard it takes to start it. He was able to turn it over in 3 kicks. My previous bike had an electric start so I never had to experience kicking it over. The compression seems very good, but I have a hard time kicking it over. Is there anything else I need to look over that would make turning it over harder than it should? Great videos by the way.

some bikes have decompression lever of the handlebars, I dont think your bike has it. Perhaps checking valve clearance would be good idea. how many kicks does it take to start ?

One of my old bikes the clutch doesn't work how do I fix it? If I pull the clutch in it would just jerk and stall when I put it into gear
@dirtniron7 жыл бұрын
+KXracingMark first check if your clutch cable works well if you are actually pulling it sufficiently. Then I would take the cover off and inspect it.
@kxracingmark44417 жыл бұрын
Dirt N Iron it feels like the clutch isn't attached or somthing like it comes in super easy
@dirtniron7 жыл бұрын
+KXracingMark check your cable, is it connected? Are you pulling the lever?
@kxracingmark44417 жыл бұрын
Dirt N Iron yea I pull it in then put it in gear then just stalls
@dirtniron7 жыл бұрын
+KXracingMark you are not engaging the clutch, inspect it, is cable connected to the lever on the engine?

quick question for you! i have a 2015 yz250f. i do lots of trail riding with friends and a little bit of track but not to much. i never rode a yz250 before but i know they are about 20-40 pounds lighter than the yz250f. yet the bottom end is suppossed to be pretty bad on the 2 stroke. i guess my question is can you really feel that weight difference or should i stick with the 4 stroke.
@dirtniron7 жыл бұрын
+Blake sidwell it does feel lighter, you can definitely feel it. 250 2 strokes dont really miss the bottom power, they are actually more snappy than 250 4 strokes. I suggest to try one if you have a chance. Power delivery is different but very interesting, I love 250 2 stroke on the trail. I had some seat time on KTM 250 xcfw and I like 250 2 stroke more for my style of riding, more power everywhere. I suggest to give 2 stroke a shot. Good luck!

Hey dude love your vids, I have the same bike but a 250. For some reason it only stays on when the choke is on and when I push the choke in it stalls. am I doing something wrong, is there something wrong with the engine or do I need to just leave it idling for a few minutes and then turn choke off
@dirtniron4 жыл бұрын
let it warm up first. Does it idle warm?
@arich29384 жыл бұрын
Dirt N Iron I let it warm up and it still does the same thing, it will only idle when choke is out (I can’t ride the bike when choke is in as it stops) as soon as I push it in it shuts off. Even when I push it in slowly I can slowly hear the engine shutting off so I need to keep the revs up or else it’ll shut off. It’s a fuel injected bike so can’t be carby, does the hot start/decompression lever cable have anything to do with it? As I’ve heard if there is excessive slack or too much tightness on the cable it pulls against the inlet and gives the engine too much air or too much fuel? Thanks for your help!
@calvinditlefsen61387 жыл бұрын
I have a 2014 FI kx250f and it runs and idles fine in cold, but once it warms up when I rev it it idles really high, then goes back down to low, then I rev it and it goes really high,then goes back down, idk what the problem is
@dirtniron7 жыл бұрын
it can be air or vacuum leak, make sure that your carburetor rubber booth is clean and seals 100% and make sure you run proper jetting and fuel screw adjustment
@calvinditlefsen61387 жыл бұрын
Dirt N Iron it’s fuel injected it doesn’t have a carb
@dirtniron7 жыл бұрын
thats right, so look for the air leak, spray some wd40 around the boot/throttle body while engine runs and see if the rpm reacts to it. if yes that means your bike is sucking false air from somewhere..
@calvinditlefsen61387 жыл бұрын
Dirt N Iron is it a big problem if it is sucking false air
