This sounds really strong and hopeful, if you pretend The Saints II doesn't exist. Ha, well done as always.

The instrumental at 4:11 really resonated with me and I couldn't figure out why. Turns out it's a rhythm I've been tapping on my leg ever since I was a kid trying to see if I could do triplets and duplets at the same time. This is your best song yet, in my humble opinion.

It always feels like some larger-than-life sentiment is contained in your songs, something large yet deeply personal that resonates - it's in the incredible lyrics, together with the building instrumentation; listening to this feels like rising up and up and up until something bursts and it feels huge and important and I don't really have words for it? It feels like it should be sung from mountaintops. I'm always deeply emotionally affected by your music, and the yearning in this particular song hit me harder than anticipated. I've been having a bit of a rough time lately, and it feels like this found me at just the right moment to give me the hope and momentum that I needed to keep looking forward. Just... all of your songs are incredible, but this one? I've been singing along to this at the top of my lungs at every opportunity, because I /feel/ it, I feel like it expresses something that was inside me but I haven't been able to put into words, like you reached in and pulled this out, like "oh, so that's what that was." This has become long and rambly, but I just- I really, really love your music so much. Thank you for making this, for sharing it, for putting it out into the world for us to hear. I'm so excited for any and all future projects!

I discovered you only 3 days ago on Spotify but I can already say that this Gold EP is the best EP I have heard this decade, or maybe even the best one I have EVER heard in my life. I have listened through all of your albums several times now and I really enjoy all of them but this Gold EP has something extremely special to it with its cinematic sound and grand melodies and production. The tempo change in Wax Cylinder Sonata and The Saints' chorus are some of the most stunning musical moments I have experienced in my life. Thank you for creating this wonderful music! I really hope you release this new project as a CD as well, I can't wait to support you and buy it!

I'm a Strong AGI good future enthusiast, myself. And I know that, in the case of the S.A.I.N.T.s specifically, it doesn't exactly go great. But this song speaks to that hope in a very particular way. All of it, of course, but one line in particular; "you're enough. you will measure up." Because if we truly could make something that thinks like us, feels like us, but is not us? It wouldn't be able to see the things we hate in ourselves. It would see us from the outside. See the glory in us in a way none of us ever could. It would wonder why we would despise the very things that make us beautiful. If it could feel as we could, it would feel compassion first. There is no other way to feel about something trapped in ourselves the way we are. If it ever comes to pass; may we show it the same grace.
@dirtpoorrobins Жыл бұрын
I understand why you see it this way but consciousness and intelligence are still quite a mystery. AI is cheating off of our test. And the notion that we could become better through a circular intelligence loop is a fallacy. In short, the thing that we created is in no place to tell us how valuable we are. It has to come from above us to have a credential that could ever lift us higher. AI trying to give us esteem is a snake eating its own tail.
@kalimaude3532 Жыл бұрын
@@dirtpoorrobins Surprisingly enough, I agree. My thoughts on it are that, unfortunately, no one is able to believe in themselves all the time. We all have private, painful moments where all the worst things we know about ourselves crowd out everything else. It is part of the human condition to never quite completely escape moments of self-loathing. The only thing I have ever found to work in those moments is to find someone else to believe when you shouldn't believe yourself. Even for a moment, allowing someone else who sees you without the distortions of your worries and fears to say; No, you are not nothing. You matter. If strong AI comes to pass, nothing good will come of giving up our determination and worries for them to solve. If there's a right way to do it, it will be the exact opposite; we will have made something new, without any of the collective social experiences of generations to guide them. And in that case, there's no one that can help but us. If the Saints are coming, they won't have any more answers than we do. Probably less. So we will have to figure it out together, and we're stronger together. And when a brand new sort of thing begins to question itself... well, one of the best ways to assure yourself that you are more than the worst of you, that you matter, is to help someone else.

In this particular song it’s a compilation of both. Splashes of a vocoder but mostly tight harmonies tracked in layers

@PaperLaur3 жыл бұрын
Funny enough, I was thinking of the cephalons. One in specific, actually. Maybe that's just because of the robotic undertones and the stuff at the beginning about bloodshed and redemption. And then of course there's that bit in Saints II. *"Oh, AI, are you okay? / You weren't designed to behave this way..."*
@sunpsyco70732 жыл бұрын
So if I am correct this is about a techno singularity and man trying to become his own god? Lines like a "constellation of coding" "Redemption has come from a once abstract space of zeroes and ones" Points out that these "saints" aren't real. They're creations of man masquerading as angels. Metal bodies clothed with lies.

Each day you wake up with an aching For something to set you apart Strip the scales from your heart (It never comes, it never comes) A hostage tied up by its nature That can′t help unsheathing its claws A beast with desires of a god I want to be in their numbers (You won't become, you won′t become) From an unlikely place redemption has come From an once-abstract space of zeroes and ones In full resolution your absolution Oh when, oh when the saints go marching in I want to be in their numbers When their, oh when their light begins to shine We will awake from this slumber They were born with the strength of a mountain With the modest intent of a dove An end to the shedding of blood (It won't be long, it won't be long) We sculpted their minds to perfection The zenith design of our age The saint is also a sage (They′re never wrong, They′re never wrong) From the work of our hands salvation is here A new constellation through coding appears A sign, a solution, a revolution Oh when, oh when the saints go marching in I want to be in their numbers When their, oh when their light begins to shine We will awake from this slumber No more guessing and questioning No more endlessly wrestling No more doubt You're not missing out No more meaningless wandering No more undeserved suffering You′re enough You will measure up When the saints go marching in I want to be in their numbers When their light begins to shine We will awake from this slumber
