It’s so bizarre that this album is from 2007 because I was born in 2006 and so the dirt poor robins have basically been making music my whole life, but I didn’t know until about a year ago

This song to me is what it feels like when I was forced to go to church camp while not being religious, ESPECIALLY being in the girls dorm. I just felt disconnected from them because they were all putting up this “good Christain girl” impression and I just felt so out of place among them and I found it hard to connect with them. I remember this one time when they talked about how they didn’t like the Barbie movie because it was “too feminist and man hating” and that just made me so sad to hear them say that because first of all they were missing the point, and secondly it gave off the impression that they might’ve had some internalized misogyny and that was just so sad to see. I know this is long but I just wanted to put into words what this song reminds me of when I hang around girls in my church and how disconnected I feel from them

Writing a fanfic of a young girl who is described just like this song -- nearly drowns trying to save her friend, wears a cloak of a wolf but is kind hearted, and is persecuted at school. But when I imagine this song, I see her wild and free, a holy joker off to cause chaos and shake the foundations of the world she knows.

I love the composition of this song, it has great melodies and rhythm! Also, I don't know if this was intended but here's my personal interpretation of most of the lyrics: The refrain emphasizing the "One Love, One State, etc..." is strictly a symptom of authoritarian governments. They dictate that everyone must "fall in line," and one of the keys to this power is forcing everyone to prioritize the power of the State above all else. This is done through a mixture of force and nationalistic propaganda. Authoritarianism is deeply intolerant, anything considered "abnormal" is attacked. One Love - you can only love who or what we say. One State, One Vow - We are your only allegiance, we can't be questioned. One Fate - You cannot diverge from our plan. Also, as another comment points out, the emphasis on Me and We being always capitalized while "you" being always lowercased (even in an all-caps sentence) demonstrates how little the impersonal individual matters to the Leader of the "Collective," similar to how royalty (the epitome of Authoritarianism) would use the "royal we." If we look at history and today's (American) society, this obsession with conformity, nationalism, intolerance, and unquestioning loyalty is coming overwhelmingly from the Right. It's worth noting that politically speaking, Right isn't inherently Authoritarian. The best (though not perfect) measurement of political scales is a grid where up is Authoritarian, right is Right/Conservative, down is Libertarian, and left is Left/Liberal. Currently, the American Right is very Conservative and Authoritarian, and they have been for a long time. It's been the hippies, leftists, liberals, and even Democrats that have questioned the government, questioned authority, fought against intolerance, and fought against religious mandates (a form of philosophical control). One Love - Only man and woman can love. One State, One Vow - America is the best country on Earth, to protest against the government or its tools of force (such as police or military) is to protest against the greatest achievement of mankind. One Fate - You will fall in line or else the government will use force and propaganda to disempower you, imprison you, cancel you, etc. You can only know if we have told you so - We will ban books and classes that disagree with us; we will defund schools and programs that don't follow our strict beliefs. Much of this gets flipped around by Conservatives, though most of the examples they point to are self-exposing: Most Conservatives experiencing Liberal "intolerance" are only victims because they only desire to express their intolerance. A general attribute of Liberalism is "tolerating intolerance is the one thing I won't tolerate." When Conservatives complain about being deplatformed or scolded for their beliefs, it's usually because their beliefs inherently limit the freedom of other people. Conservatives fought against gay marriage, they fought against immigration (including legal immigration), they fought against freeing slaves, and whenever they hold power they force these limits on as many people as they can. Returning to the song, "Everything you know - Political" can have different contexts. In the context of this song, it's seemingly used negatively. It implies that Politics is inherently bad, or at least inherently dangerous or powerful. People can wield politics as a weapon to make sure you fall in line. Sex is political, Art is political, Clothing is political, Gender is political, Race is political, Everything is political, and if something is political, that means it can be controlled or judged. Conservatives often use this as a complaint, "You can't speak your mind these days or else you get canceled, everything is too Political." This is generally for the aforementioned reason, they desire some form of intolerance, whether it's against how people love, dress, sing, believe, etc. and they get called out for trying to oppress others. So they use "Political" as a curse, Politics is something to be avoided. "Can't we return to the good ole days where everybody just got along?" or something to that effect. However I'd argue that Everything IS Political, but doesn't have to be inherently negative. Politics in an Authoritarian system is inherently restrictive since the State dictates what's allowed. Politics in a Libertarian system is inherently liberating since it's the people and communities that determine what's acceptable and they get to hold each other accountable instead of an oversized disconnected State. Personally I lean much more strongly towards the latter, but I also believe in a balance. I agree that sometimes a cohesive central State should have specific powers to overrule certain communities. For example, slavery should be a national issue, it's so abhorrent a crime that no community should be exempt from a ban on slavery. I also believe that pooling resources centrally can provide more positive outcomes, such as a National Guard, consistent schooling, healthcare, economic investments, trade policies, etc. But that's getting a bit too into the weeds. The point is I really like this song and I've enjoyed thinking it over. I'm not 100% what the intention was, but I agree with much of the sentiment. Though if I had to guess, I think the intention behind this song may be more in line with the Conservative interpretation. It just kind of gives me that vibe, between the seemingly negative usage of the term Political and phrases like "Keep it down or shut your mouth ... Common sense is too expensive," it makes it feel tinted. But then lines like "One Love" to me seems deeply pro-LGBT (or at least LGB). Either way, my main point is that most people actually agree on many topics, including the idea that Authoritarianism is bad, any top-down power structure is inherently concerning.
