@@TheOVprodigyIt’s not impossible, of course. Even elephants have been brought down with .22. Bears are still living beings with organs and if those organs are perforated the being cannot sustain its biological processes. Where the problems comes in is that the parts of a bear where .22 can achieve sufficient penetration to perforate the organs are few. Also, the size of the perforation matters. A .22 sized hole in a bear’s lung will kill it, in a few minutes to a few hours. A 2 inch hole will kill it now. CMMG .22 conversion for the AR works very well, is relatively cheap, and you dont need a whole new rifle. Heck, you could carry it with a mag and a 50rd box of .22 into the field with your main loadout.
@Kalbee2 ай бұрын
I think PNW guerrilla has a video on it and it pretty much killed their gas system on their AR after a few thousand rounds. But they did say you might be able to mitigate that by sending a mag of full power 5.56 through the gun after a range day training with .22lr
@Hatchet_Jack5562 ай бұрын
@Kalbee this is correct, the fouling will clog your gas system and CMMG recommends shooting a handful of rounds of 556 after a couple hundred rounds of 22lr. You could also build a cheap, dedicated 22lr upper

I have the CMMG kit, 1500 rounds through it. The mags suck to load, like a lot. My extractor had the tooth chip off so my extraction occurs sometimes. The firing pin spring also broke on it. Honestly, it is not a good tool to teach you how to shoot it is extremely unreliable even before these issues. I have tried expensive CCI all the way yo cheap Aguilla and it gets catastrophic malfunctions every other mag. If I did it again I would buy a used dedicated .22 AR instead. I have not had issues with my gas system but concur that accuracy is nonexistent. Even so, rimfire is frustrating to shoot because every 10 rounds you get a dud, I think rimfire is outdated. Use a 380 to hunt rabbits and at least it will go bang every time. I would not recommend training with rimfire unless you are practicing clearing jams. .22 is very good at jamming any gun.

@@MrCobb-rq8iv the entire point is to have something small and compact. Also, a 26” barrel on a 22 is more accurate because it slows everything down to subsonic. Navy SEALS used .22lr pistols, in Viet Nam, and still use them for certain missions, and the Mossad has issued .22lr pistols to its operatives, for decades. Hitmen also love it. It doesn’t get nearly enough respect, from the general public, but the guys, and gals, that end people, professionally, know how good it is.

There is good reason why it’s not standard issue for anyone. If you do that type of missions, and you have that type of skill, sure it’s probably a great tool. Most peoples “missions” most peoples skillset, it’s a stupid idea to use that tool

I like .22LR as a cheaper alternative to 5.56 for doing drills were accuracy is a secondary factor - reloading, weapon transition, standing/kneeling/prone transition, etc. I train those things with 5.56 as well, but usually not in the same level of isolation that I do with .22LR (that means with more complicated drills).

Great job guys, very entertaining. I carried a Ruger 10/22, in my truck for years, not willing to risk one of the ARs in the turck. knowing a skilled person with a 22 is still very dangerous. Sadly not long ago I lost that rifle in a breakin of my truck. sad to lose her but happy it wasn't one of my 2k ARs. I'm replacing the 10/22 with a PC9 for my new cheaper truck gun.

This is completely anecdotal, but as someone who takes a lot of rabbits on my property all year- subsonics or 40 grainers do very little damage, and you need to be accurate with your shot placement. I have the best success with stingers or mini-mags, typically one hit will drop them right there. But the last one i took with subs (at night, so was running suppressed) it took 3 hits with the last having to be the head because it did so little damage. All were in the chest/neck area and could not drop it. Hope that helps.
@joemama694482 ай бұрын
Also anecdotal, I was shooting some apples with a 22. The 40g solid round zipped right through apples and left them with a hole but intact. I switched to mini mag hollow points and the apples exploded with little bits flying in all directions. Big difference between the two!
@andreivaldez29292 ай бұрын
I agree that the .22 is overlooked often by the tactical community but I also feel like it's sometimes overrated by some people. You always hear about it being "the most lethal round ever" without citing anything other than anecdotes, and not understanding why it's so often used to kill people. There's a reason most people don't choose it often for self-defense, and why most militaries moved away from it in those instances of duty roles you mentioned.

Accuracy testing with CCI Stingers are not the best way to test. Let me say this: Every 22lr weapon is very ammo specific. With blowback weapons the name of the game is balance and timing. CCI mini mag in a Ruger 10/22 or a Marlin 60 are amazing IF you balance the recoil spring with the round. It's not unlikly to get 1.5inch groups at 100 yards. Also, cheap weapons have places where the handle touches the barrel. If you float the barrel, then you make it more consistent which equals accurate. Then find which ammo run most consistent in your weapon and stick with it. 22lr can be finicky but with a few tweeks can be the most accurate thing you shoot inside of 100 yards.
@brandonbowman59152 ай бұрын
I've never found stingers too very accurate at all however the CCI standard velocity runs almost as good as any match ammo in mine. It does around 1.5 moa 10 shot groups in mine

I threw together a 4.5" 22lr braced AR style pistol with a silencerco switchback suppressor and binary trigger for fun at the range. I have made numerous modifications with the most significant being the crescent shaped firing pin from Bore Buddy. I can dump mag after mag now without a single failure. I noticed how light 300 rounds of 22lr is in the backpack along with this folding braced pistol and realized it was perfect as a prepping survival tool if anything were to ever go down. Perhaps the only change I would make is to increase the barrel length slightly, but beyond that it is not a bad option for survival by hunting varmints. For anything else in an urban environment, then it is my 5.5" MCX Rattler with a Q Trash Panda.

I have a 17 caliber air rifle and a 22 caliber air rifle, both deliver plenty of energy to take on small game. But with 22lr, I can accurately reach out 150+ yards. With the air rifles, anything past 50-75 yards becomes dubious. The "bullet" drop is significant.

I'm sure most of those kills were headshots at close range against an unsuspecting victim: pistols also kill more people in the US than rifles but I'm not gonna use that fact to claim pistols are more lethal than rifles.

As a retired cop who started in the 60s I agree with the statement in that back then the most popular street guns were 22 and 25 pocket pistols with fatal shots being to the head or vital organ not counting multiple hits. But since the 80s street thugs have stepped up their game. But a survival 22 to take small game is good.

Glad you guys covered this! Just thought I’d mention that Israel wasn’t the only country to use the .22 for clandestine ops. The US still issues integrally-suppressed .22 pistols to special forces. There is arguably no better tool for dispatching a target silently at short range. Watching you shoot armor, it occurred to me that it might be interesting to see what happens if you shoot 1 .22 round, then shoot the same spot with .556. I’m curious if the .22 would create enough damage for the .556 to penetrate.
