I made a very traditional Irish stew last week. That was just layering lamb, potatoes, onions, and bacon rashers covering it with water and letting it simmer for 45 minutes with salt and pepper and even though it didn’t look great it was so comforting. Great video Santee

One of my brothers called Worche..Wister...he called it : What's this here sauce. Always a good addition to a beef recipe. An old time trick is slightly softened butter of a walnut size, and work flour into it with your fingers. Drop in your stew broth and stir it to thicken said broth. Nothing like a good stew. I have one stew recipe that is actually baked in the oven on low heat. Hat tip to Dirty Dan for sharing his recipe with you Santee and to you for sharing it.

Good Morning from sunny Southern California. That's pretty much the stew I grew up on & raised my family on. The only change I'd make is adding a bay leaf (or bay laurel which I think might be native to California.) We've been fortunate enough to have a bay laurel in our yard most of our lives & my hubby calls it a "beef stew bush." If cookie forgets to remove it prior to putting the stew on the table we always tell the diners to check their bowl for the "prize." Love your channel.

Yep here in Louisiana cooler weather means GUMBO. Made with a roux and a variety of proteins , chicken, andouille (a heavily smoked pork sausage), or seafood like crabs, shrimp etc and sometimes adding “fillet” (ground sassafras- refer to Hank Williams Sr, famous line in his lyrics to Jambalaya “Jambalaya, crawfish pie, fillet gumbo…..” Every culture had their soups and stews with various proteins and veggies. Still the perfect comfort food on cool and cold times. As always see you next Saturday morning Santee. 😂

Really sounds like a good meal on a cold day. "what´s in the pantry" as ingredient list makes shopping easy. Szews are are fine meal. they improve with getting kept hot or reheated. Also stews do not require compöicated cooking techniques - dice, put into pot, put on the fire, leave alone until done.

The way I get tomato paste out of the can is to open both the top lid and bottom with a can opener, remove the top lid, and use the bottom to push the sauce out of the can. Don't forget to remove the bottom from the paste after you've done this. I typically break up my wedge of cornbread and mix it in my bowl of stew.

A trick for tomato paste-open one end, leaving the can end in place then flip and open the other end, removing it, hold it over the pot with open end down, pushing the remaining can end through like a plunger-it all comes out nice, easy and complete, take the remaining end off and you have a nice cylinder of tomato, and a cleanly empty can.

It would end up with the pile of hair tonic for bald eagles, unlike canned Wup-Ass or Acme House "Instant Girl" packaged by the Pierce Packing Co.

When using tomato paste, open the top and bottom. Discard the top and push the bottom through the can. This will get all the paste into your pot.

Hey Santee! That still looks so good I'm going to try it. It looks easy enough even I can do it and I've got a slow cooker too. Definitely got to have that bread or cornbread with a lot of butter though on the side. Thanks Santee 🤠🤠

A little bourbon doesn't hurt either, also makes the prep-workout more pleasant.

The way this economy is going, stews will become an important staple of people's diets - easy to make and very tolerant of variations (IOW, use whatcha have on hand or can get cheaply). When I was young, my dad would make huge pots of vegetable soup (it was closer to a stew in consistency) and freeze most of it for later consumption. It was the kind of meal you never really got tired of eating.

Even with the economics, it's still about $6 per person.

Looks great, Santee! If Dirty Dan Stew doesn't sound quite right, just add an apostrophe S. Dirty Dan's Stew. Problem solved. Well, that's it for now. See you on down the Stew Trail!

My grandfather makes Brunswick stew. I like to add hot sauce (usually Texas Pete) and eat it with some bread slices. GATTA have it ever holiday and birthday. My usual birthday feast is a New York Strip Steak, a Loaded Baked Potato, some Sweet Corn on the cob, Brunswick Stew, and some sweet tea to drink.

@ArizonaGhostriders How do y'all eat it? I don't know the exact recipe my grandfather has but, looks like he used some sort of pulled pork or roast for the meat with a bunch of vegetables mixed in. He talks about growing up and having rabbit meat in it alongside a boar's head cooking over the pot. Obviously, he makes the stew different nowadays but I'm curious as to how others make and eat their Brunswick stew.
