Osmone Everony It's actually very subtle foreshadowing. The fact that the first time he says it in the film, it is in fact a bluff, sets up the fact that the character himself doesn't necessarily know whether his gun has another bullet left in it or not. When he says it later in the film, (spoilers, not a bluff this time) the audience is genuinely unsure what is going to happen next and it expertly builds the suspense. This film is genius.

Much credit to the editor and direction. They made sure that one shot was only heard off-screen and that another was visually obfuscated in the fire hydrant's fountain. They also put a solid minute and 20 seconds between the last round being fired and the question being posed by the character, so you wouldn't have a great short term recollection about it. So they ensured that the audience was as confused as the "punk" on three levels and it just works.

_He was bluffing about losing count. He never would’ve taken that chance. Harry isn’t a murderer lol._ Half true. He was bluffing about losing count, but they added a shot in post years after the movie was released, which totally changes the nature of the scene, because people cried it was mean. They didn't like the notion of an audience being made to root for someone who points loaded guns at black people, and trying to trick them into validating their executions, even if those people are violent bankrobbers with shotguns. If they're white, like the main antagonist, nobody gives a shit, but you so much as make black people uncomfortable, and they'll come for everything, which is why the sequels are also jokes. Star Wars is not the only film ruined by people after its original debut.

Timelines changing or you simply misremembering stuff? Remember, our brains get lots of shit wrong when it comes to memories. Too many cops think they’re a real-life Dirty Harry. The problem is that this is a movie, and the script writer made sure that the guys getting shot were legitimate targets. The wannabe Dirty Harrys IRL eventually kill innocent people. Maybe we’d be better served by real-world solutions, not by fictional characters.

One of the greatest movie scenes of all time. There are some comments here that Dirty Harry only fired 5 shots. Watch the clip again. You can see and hear him fire 5 shots. But you can HEAR another shot fired (apparently by him) right at 0:31. It is shot #3. It is fired as the car is driving towards Harry. So he actually fired a total of 6 shots, which is consistent with the fact that there were no live shells left in the gun when he pulled the trigger again, while aiming at the fallen guy's head.

Ah, but we only see him fire 5 shots. It's possible that audible shot was from one of the criminals. Regardless, harry cycling the revolver at the end ensured that the chamber would be empty because he skipped over the 6th chamber after firing 5 shots. Chamber 6 could be empty for all we really know
@traumatose60034 жыл бұрын
He only fired five rounds that i heard, and the robber with the shotgun was several feet from it as clint was walking across the street. Then in the next shot, the camera pans to show his hand less than a foot from the muzzle of the shotgun.. still one of my favorite scenes in a shoot 'em up Dirty Harry flick. And the receding helicopter shot at the stadium, where you see that he can be just as cruel as the bad guys, doing whatever it takes to bring them down or bury them. Need more like that.

@user10cool8 жыл бұрын
For anyone else who had difficulty noticing all 6 shots, close your eyes and you'll notice Dirty Harry's revolver has a unique sound; listen for it and you should be able to hear it six times. The 6 shots occur at these times: 0:26, 0:29, 0:31, 0:34, 0:35, 0:46. The shot you don't see is at 0:31 when we have the visual and auditory perspective of the guys in the getaway car. This auditory perspective makes the sound of the shot slightly less distinguishable from all of the other noise. But the sound is distinct and definitely the same as the other 5 shots.

He has made many films: and whether you think they are good or bad, they are never indifferent. In every film, he adds that star quality. Two particular things I admire about Clint: his loyalty to his unofficial company of actors that appeared in many of his films. You get the impression they are as much his friends as work colleagues. The second, is that I read that he set up the Malpaso Company because some films were overrunning on time and budget and all the films when he handled the production through Malawi, always came in on time and under budget.

The scene and the classic line is one thing. But i also love how he proves to the robber by shooting right at him with the empty chamber

Clint doing what he does best , throughout his career acting using his cool school jazz musician persona, dirty Harry just like his spaghetti westerns, great

When I visited San Francisco around 10 years ago, I spent the whole time looking for Dirty Harry locations. The perfect city for the backdrop to one of the greatest action movies ever made.

It's good you went back then. Nowadays you'd have to be careful not to step on any needles.

I know this is Old School, so to say, but Alfred Hitchcock filmed a number of his greatest movies in Frisco. There's a whole tour of his film locations

@@AllenAriasMartinez Yup, I did some of the Vertigo locations too. Plus Zodiac, Bullitt and the Conversation. In fact I stayed at the Chancellor just off Union Square where Gene Hackman records the opening conversation. That hotel can be seen in the background of an opening scene from Bullitt too.
