Influenced and set the mold for Cop Thrillers (along with Bullit) for every one since. Iconic. What a start, great direction. Top Soundtrack by Lalo too. The actor was a bit weak though, You could tell He wouldn't amount to much.

One of the most 'grabbing' openings in movie history, yet done with such dourness and quiet mastery. I remember seeing it for the first time in my early teens, not intentionally watching it and not knowing what to expect. Long before appreciating the intricacies of scripts and plots, even at that age I instinctively thought 'who is she that she has earned such a fate?' She was either connected high up to someone important and controversial, or... a random kill by someone evil. Immediately the premise of the psycho on the loose is set up, closely followed by the hero who must investigate it. I did not move from the seat, and that's more than any amount of school lessons achieved!

I had never lived in the 70s but everytime I watch this scene I feel like I had and I remember it. Don Siegel is a genius, so as Lalo Schifrin. I feel so sorry for those who are seeking only the mistakes of this scene. Cause whatever you find and comment here, no one's gonna remember it 5 minutes later. However this all time classic movie will always be remembered.

Less parabolic arc when you're shooting down like that. More of a straight shot. Plus, it's only 1,000 feet from the B of A building to the Chinatown Hilton -- a plausible shot (see below). On the musical side, Shiffrin rocks. Look at the great SF Bay Area back drops in these opening scenes. Plus, Eastwood is so cool that he's CHEWING GUM! Shared route From 555 California Street Building to Hilton San Francisco Financial District via Kearny St. 2 min (0.2 mi) 1. Head west on California St toward Kearny St 2. The difference between Don Siegel and Clint as directors, right here. Look at the subsequent movies. He should have directed all of them. Hell, written them, too!

The score for this film blew my mind when I first heard it, as did the Enter the Dragon soundtrack. When I found out they were both by the same Argentinian guy, I couldn't help but find the nearest rooftop swimming pool and shout "They gave us Maradona! They produce some of the finest, most succulent beef in the world!! AND they produce Lalo Schifrin?!! Argentiiiina baby, we love you! Ole, ole, ole, ole...Diego, Diego...!" Then some punk-ass bitch called Scorpio shot me in the ass & killed my vibe
