One of the most 'grabbing' openings in movie history, yet done with such dourness and quiet mastery. I remember seeing it for the first time in my early teens, not intentionally watching it and not knowing what to expect. Long before appreciating the intricacies of scripts and plots, even at that age I instinctively thought 'who is she that she has earned such a fate?' She was either connected high up to someone important and controversial, or... a random kill by someone evil. Immediately the premise of the psycho on the loose is set up, closely followed by the hero who must investigate it. I did not move from the seat, and that's more than any amount of school lessons achieved!
