i thought that was very good. it's funny how every single note of this song is embedded in my musical memory/dna. i've listened to steely dan for so many years now right back to when it was all first released. covers either stick to the original or try to improvise. this group pretty much stuck to the original imo. a good decision because any real change and you would lose the brilliance of the classic original. a lively and energetic performance with excellent musicianship. not heard of the group before but i will check out some more of their stuff from now on. as i remember you're the poster of a whole bunch of brandon niederauer tracks. i only "discovered" him recently and have been searching for anything by him as i'm mainly just a big electric guitar fan. i now have both brandon and our very own toby lee to listen to. both brilliant. if it was you then i'm very grateful for your efforts. it's great to be able to listen to usa stuff over here in england that i just wouldn't normally get to hear. thanks for posting.

I agree. Real nice straight ahead cover. One of my favorite Dan tunes. That's great that you're in England and know about Taz..Brandon Neiderauer. I've seen him alot since the ripe old age of 10. He always sits in with bands at Brooklyn bowl here. He's definitely a future guitar god. His playing for his age is brilliant. Since you love electric gtr be sure to check out Jimmy Herring. He plays with Widespread panic as well as played in The Dead, the Allman bros, and Aquarium rescue unit among others. He's the best gtr player IMHO on the Jam scene.

Mike Lenowsky thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my comment. i have checked out some jimmy herring like you suggested. prima facie he sounds a bit like jeff beck with a bit of a slidey and almost orchestral jazzy keyboardy sound to his playing. i'm more of a raw growling screaming bluesy wah wah sort of a guitar aficionado according to my past form but i'll certainly listen some more of his playing because he sounds like a true "guitartist". i rate brandon as highly as our own toby lee over here in england and that's saying quite a lot because imo young toby has more promise than just about anybody else as a future "great". toby and brandon are friends and both seem to me to be humble and dedicated musical servants realising their "gift" for playing guitar acquired through hard practise and imo maybe just a pinch of "genius".

+john doe Hey John...you're very welcome. I always like turning on people to musicians/bands they might not be familiar with. That's interesting how you describe Jimmy's playing cause he's really more of a smokin..totally wailing gtr player in the vein of McLaughlin...with some Jeff Beck thrown in. He recently toured with McLaughlin opening the show as well as playing the whole 3rd set with McLaughlin doing all Mahavishnu orchestra tunes. Jimmy's a blazing gtr player to say the least. Check out some old Aquarium rescue unit..or his work with Widespread panic. His new side project is Def a mix of Beck type fusion along with McLaughlin kinda gtr lines. I never heard of Toby but I'll check him out since you have great taste in music. That's cool that him and Taz are friends.. it's kids like that who are definitely gonna be the future guitar gods. It's incredible cause I've been seeing Taz for 4 years now..since the ripe old age of 10..and seeing how he's progressed is so cool. He already blows away most cats twice his age. Can't imagine how great he's gonna be 10 years from now! Another wailing gtr player you may wanna check out is Warren Haynes and his band Govt Mule..he was the gtr player for the Allman bros the last 20 years they were in existence. He's totally smokin. Rip roaring and straight up nasty with major soul and feel in his playing and singing. If you do Check him out..let me know what you think. Cheers.

Mike Lenowsky straight off i'm absolutely astonished that you've never heard of young toby lee!! are you pulling my leg? i never thought for one moment that anyone even in the farthest reaches of patagonia in peru like our very own paddington bear wouldn't have heard him play!! all I can say to you is you're such a lucky guy never to have heard him because you've got all his stuff to listen to completely fresh if you want to and i so envy you that!! brandon played guitar on broadway in school of rock and toby played the same role in the west end of london in the british version of school of rock. toby won an ivor novello theatre award for his performance. he also just won the uk young blues artist of the year award. not long ago toby spent ages over in america going to all sorts of i imagine musical places including norm's rare guitars where I think that on his little session there are now about 650 comments mostly in his praise including some dude who smashed his guitar against the wall in disgust after hearing him play just before he started his guitar practising!! i've written hundreds upon hundreds of words in comment about him on his site!! hey after all this hype from me you might think that he's rubbish in your opinion when you actually hear him play! but hopefully you won't. he's thirteen years old and plays in a somewhat different style to brandon niederauer. a recent video of his "bluest blues" i've listened to now over 200 times and i'm still amazed by his playing of it! his recent "uk blues" and "village blues" playing with his uncle who is also his teacher/guitar mentor are also worth checking out. along with anything else he's ever played imo. his early stuff at age eight to ten is really amazing to hear. thanks for your further comments. i'm still digesting them! but i just had to respond immediately to this!! happy listening and i'd really like to know what you genuinely think about our young tobes if you ever get time to have a listen.
