Great reaction! The greatest difference to the base/drum rhythm is that where the original is based on 8th notes, Dirty Loops chooses instead to make triplets the basic unit, which produces a "swing" feeling.
@lottawiklund8606
@lottawiklund8606 10 ай бұрын
Technically it's still 8th notes though, as it's a straight 12/8, instead of a swung 4/4. ☺ Such a brilliant take on this song. I especially love how the interlude is played in 12/8 and some kind of 3/2 simultaneously. How Aron pulls that off without even looking bothered I'll never understand! 😅

Hi Jack, really loved your reaction and analysis to this killer rendition of Thriller. Super interesting vocal analysis… Jonah started singing at virtually age 1. Both his parents were involved in choirs, and they took him to rehearsals etc. from an early age. He also has an aunt who was a famous opera singer in Sweden (hi all Swedish friends, correct me if I’m wrong :) So he has sung for many years of his life and also must have had some vocal training, but what exactly I don’t know. He only started singing lead vocals in bands at a later stage-. When watching the video for the first time, you’ve missed Jonah putting on his Stevie sunnies :) Yes, so much Stevie Wonder in there. They met him in the US. Stevie loves their music and said that he wouldn’t mind collaborating with them… They swapped the straight groove of the original Thriller to a swung groove, so there is your dance vibe coming from 😉 Yeah, it is irresistible! Their rhythmic modulations are absurd!, indeed, and so much fun. The play with the unexpected in so many ways. The harmonies at 12:20 ( your video) are changing from minor to major for a sec, plus some other crazy changes ⚡️🪐💥 Then the orchestral part, then the big band jazz. Yes, this arrangement is nuts! Cory Wong is a US based funk and rhythm guitarist and plays with the best. Check out his channels on KZbin! His horns, too, are fire, and some of them played, toured and recorded with Michael Jackson, Prince and others. They add soooo much to this arrangement! The craziest thing is that Cory had never met Dirty Looos in person, just heard some of their stuff. So one day during the COVID years he rang them up and said:” let’s do a cover of Thriller together.” “Sure,” Jonah said. “Na, let’s do an album together,” said Cory. So they did, without ever having met in person at that stage. Turbo is the result, and it’s a wild ride. Even more crazy: they recorded AND filmed everything on two different continents: Cory and his horns in the US, Dirty Loops in Sweden. Then Aron, DLoops’ drummer, visually edited everything together! Crazy, hey? 😂 Their other big hit from that album is “Follow The Light”. I would love to hear your reaction to it. Link below. Ah, and also read the credits at the end of their videos, they’re funny :) Thank you again 👍🙏👍

Arrangiamento davvero meraviglioso. Prossima reaction? Follow the Light, sempre in collaborazione con Cory Wong. Oppure Work Shit Out, capolavoro musicale. PS: continua le reactions a questa band. Sei l'unico in Italia ed è un grande merito. 😊

Great reaction. Dirty Loops have done so many different genres - how about a ballad next time "Breakdown" is really amazing or "It hurts" which gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

Great reaction! Great point of view when you say that this would be Thriller if Stevie Wonder had written it. Greetings from Mexico! Please react to Breakdown, they sound amazing!

Brilliant reaction and analysis. But. I am surprised your didn’t mention the double belled euphonium. The first time I’ve seen that in a “pop” song!

Thanks a lot for the comment! I'm not very expert on that kind of instrument, thank you for the clarification! :)

The double bell euphonium is a duplex instrument based on the euphonium. The larger bell produces the mellow tone of a standard euphonium; the second smaller bell has a brighter tone, similar to a baritone horn or valve trombone. The instrument is sometimes dismissed as a novelty, but has had a small number of enthusiastic adherents, although few professional musicians use it as their sole or primary instrument. The smaller bell can give more appropriate tone in the higher range of the instrument. The two bells can also be used for special effects, such as echoes, and using the distinctly different tone of the two bells for a single musician to give the effect of call and response. -From Wikipedia. Quick Facts Brass instrument, Classification ... Construction The last valve on the horn (either the fourth or the fifth, depending upon the model) is used to switch the sound from the main bell to the secondary bell. Both bells cannot play at the same time because each bell usually has its own tuning slide loop, such that they can be matched adequately for consistent performance. Unlike the double horn, there is only one set of valve slides with a double bell euphonium, so only the basic pitch of the two bells can be matched.

Grazie Giacomo!

Composed, written and arranged by Rod Temperton, except for the horn-arrangments that was made by Jerry Hey. WackoJacko had nothing to do with the composition, like most of his repertoaire. Credit should and have to go where credits go. To the artist. Great analysis and cheers from Puglia!

Arieccomi😅.
