David Longstreth.........The man has a vision.
@kassandrakid94406 жыл бұрын
AntiPopLTD yes he does but so did Amber and Haley. Dirty Projectors have not been the same since the girls left but, (most likely you know this already, he has Janelle Monae and other girls collaborating with him musically. I think he's kind of a jerk and he's admitted it himself but I love the band and this is a perfect piece of art:-). Dave longstreth is an interesting dude. You ever catch any interviews with him? He has a... Difficult and rather controlling personality. AKA he's just kind of a condescending dick. He's a musical genius but I can't say that I've ever met any amazing musicians that weren't condescending dicks at least 50% of the time. Pretty sure it comes with the territory of being a genius.

This short film really complements the album so much. It kinda changed my mind on it. It gives all the songs a more defined context while still leaving some of the abstract lyrics open to interpretation. Though I am enjoying the FlyLo short film a little more.

It's just a bunch of their videos put together. The randomness is fitting since the album is a random collection of songs as well. It's nothing serious (20:25 kind of confirms this).
@lightbright111310 жыл бұрын
Oh lord Jesus, this music is sweeter than a marshmallow baby's tush dipped in caramel! The victim comes in from the wilderness for another round of "civilization" bewilderment... HMMmmmm. Yummy yummy mystic statements with soul. It makes me consider that novelty, discipline and the grace of the human heart are returning.
@NihilIslands9 жыл бұрын
Light Bright I don't think the band members are so religious like you.The song is a mockery of religion or too much deifying death by religion.
@NihilIslands6 жыл бұрын
The heavyness and deep feelings of depression just shows how God sees sin in all, even priests, even background music îs sad and mortuary scenes, a sign of the death of soul, and Jesus just a small sign of saving the human soul through God!

I'm convinced that Longstreth's voice is like cilantro. Some people have this specific, inexplicable repulsion from it. To the remaining 97% of the world it's delicious. But to that 3% it's like a mouthful of soap. Could we have discovered an objective component to musical taste?

And Longstreth on the other hand has some tools the girls don't have: That fluttering word in the last chorus of "about to di-i-i-i-i-i-eee" is actually really precise, fluid, and genuinely soulful. Plus when he sings gently as on S.L.M. he's every bit the sweeter sides of Bob Dylan, and easier on the ears. I dunno. He obviously tries to use his voice as both a feather and a sawed-off shotgun. Whether it always works is up for debate. But that it's just *bad* on it's own just doesn't fly.
