Maybe by pushing the hose past the trap in the toilet should be best. You will need a short piece of hose without the brass end on it to make it easier to insert it. Good thing about this method, no smell 😂

One option instead of the toilet is most homes connected to a municipal sewer have a clean out access point in the sewer line. This clean out is usually similar to the PVC access cap you showed to a septic tank. I have used our macerator and dumped our motor home several times into our clean out without any issues. Our clean out is located outside of our home so easy access, this may not be the case for all though.
@drmack911
@drmack911 Жыл бұрын
We use the cleanout that is closest to the street. I asked the city if this is legal and they ran it up the food chain and came back with affirmative. The logic is that the water in the black tank has been metered somewhere so a municipality has been paid for the water.
@PeteFolksinger
@PeteFolksinger Жыл бұрын
@@drmack911 waste water is not "metered" per se, the cost for waste is typically applied by the water utility as a multiple on the water consumed.

I ran a split off my clean out about 15' to make a permanent connection point adjacent to the driveway. Fortunately it was all downhill.

@@PeteFolksinger be careful doing this cities are not good about maintiance notifications if they are doing cleaning in sewer line the pressure from the cleaning trucks water system could cause damage to a rigs plumbing “ sometimes even homes if the vent stack has issues” I do sewer cleaning and inspections and have seen issues multiple time ls with homes. When we work in Rv parks we close valves on peoples rigs during the cleaning process

We started doing this, and love it. Don't have to go out of our way to a dump station (they're rarely conveniently located for us), wait in line for up to an hour (we're weekend warriors, mostly), and pay $8-$10 (that's what most charge, near us). This way we can go straight home and I can dump while my wife puts stuff away. I can also take my time to thoroughly flush the black tank, without the pressure of holding up the line behind me.

When I used my FlowJet (the older one that shuts off to cool) I stuck the garden hose not only into the toilet but pushed it in further so it was on the other side of the toilet trap, this way it does not fill the bowel and smell up the bathroom. Worked for me.

Loved the video. Two additional comments. First, I think you can buy simple screw on plastic caps to seal up the 3/4” hose after you have drained it. The second is for camping when you have no sewer connection and have to use a honey wagon tote. The basic idea is to fill the tote and tow it to the dump station…. At a crawl. A lot of campers have trailers and a hefty tow vehicle. Don’t struggle pulling the wagon away from the camper. Put the empty wagon in your truck or tow vehicle and fill it using the macerator. Now you can drive a bit faster to the dump and the extra height will more quickly drain the tank.

Instead of buying plastic caps, simply connect both ends of the hose together. This is especially important for your potable water hose as it helps keep it sanitary.

Great video, Charity and Ben! Our coach was optioned with a macerator which I have used occasionally to empty and flush both waste tanks into our septic tank. When camping with full hookups we just use the sewer hose with gravity dump. The only problem I found with the macerator, as you have noted, is that it seems to have a limited run time before it overheats and stops working. The first time this happened I thought it broke, but waited a few minutes and it was working again. Probably a thermal issue, but really, in my opinion, these things aren't designed right if that is the case. Very important to properly maintain your RV's waste tanks, especially the black tank. I always keep the black tank with some fresh water in it, about 25%, and add some treatment to it.

I do this all the time in Europe with my 35ft Airstream motorhome, Thetford casette dumping is the norm here and usually there are dumping pedestals to make that job easier. So I use a macerator pump to pump upward into the pedestal. I use a clear angle so I can see when black is done when washing it out with gray.

This is the only option we have for our permanent RV spot. We have a city sewer stub 300 feet away but I would not pump the black tank that far. Every 2 weeks or so, I use my macerator pump, plug it into my cars 12v, and pump into a home made 55 gal blue barrel on a cart from Harbor Freight and hand pull it over to the dump pipe. It works.

I do this all the time. Hose right into the toilet. I can take my time flushing the black tank thoroughly without holding up the dump tank line at the campground. I'll still dump at the campground. But do this for the thorough flush. Shove the hose WAY deep into the toilet so it goes past the trap. Way less stink.

many houses have sewer clean out ports (even if they dont have septic tank). Find that and pump into the port. Basically you are pumping into the pipe that the toilet water flows through out from house. It is the size of a dump station port so hose goes in easy. Look for it in your front yard. If you have two choose the one that pumps towards the street side.

gets into the ground water/can and does get out and ruins your water table/ground water source can be almost permanently ruined by any spills into the ground, it all goes into the well water. Black or grey. Too many chemicals in those old pipes/tanks lethally toxic and impossible to remove from the ground/well water table. My trailer has no tanks, love it! Tupperware is the best solution, cheap and safe, never use any chemicals.

I rarely give a thumbs down on a video and maybe it should be a thumbs up for what NOT to do. We tried this method years ago when camped for a week at my sister's house. Thank goodness they were gone for the day because OMG it stunk up their whole house, despite open bathroom window, vent on door closed. I was mortified!!!! It did dissipate after a couple hours (they got home after ) but I will NEVER do this at anyone's house but my own, and then that wouldn't be my first choice.

I did something similar to my actual septic tank by adding a RV septic house adapter at my house, then I got wiser and switched out my RV toilet with a compositing tiolet, and I use a mylar bag "to hide the smell" and two extra trash bags so I can just tie off the bags and put it into black trash cans, it's quicker and no one knows.

PRO TIP: I didn't read down, I'm sure someone else commented on this already but here goes anyway. Since the toilet has a "P" trap in it and no valves, you can feed in about a foot of hose into the toilet and get it past the P-Trap and you won't have any of those smells. Oh and since that's now the "POOPER DOOPER HOSE" she'll want to use gloves too, just sayin.

It would be a brilliant idea to have an outside clean out installed on your house with a removeable cap then pump the waste down it wile running clean water in the house like drain a bathtub of water slowly or wile someone is taking a shower. Just open the cap put in your hose turn on the pump as this is going someone is actually using water inside the house this extra water should help keep your sewage lines from cloging up and moving freely. Should you have some blockage in your sewage lines say on an older home with clay sewage lines and tree roots. If its kept a liquid insted of solids its going to move a lot smoother but if you do have a blockage problem then a clean out will keep a plumber from snaking inside the house so its a win win. Ive never had to have this done but im sure its a shitty mess. If you can afford a 250k dollar motor home you can afford to do this too. And you'll probably wanna keep this crap out of your house. You could also fit the system with a proper sewage drain hookup. And a hose fausset close by. In case you need it then put down lawn lime to kill the germs only use a powered form used for concrete construction its called hydrated lime. Lime you put on your grass is pellets that desolves slowly Hydrated lime works extremly fast. It will also kill any oder. Reason i know this i had a sewage line break and went unfixed for a long time before i knew about it. I had to do something to make the groud safe and kill the bad bacteria Hydrated lime does this. Wear a mask you do not want to breath it. Lime beds were used in homes if you used well water from under your home. It kept the soil clean of bacteria.

Any time you're connecting water to waste, you need to use a vacuum breaker, which needs to be higher than your fixtures. Dump stations already have vacuum breakers on the top of the pole connecting to the rinse water. Using a hose at home or at a full hookup site with a vacuum breaker up high does the same thing, but make sure that any hose from the vacuum breaker to the waste tanks is never to be used for drinking water. Sincerely, your friendly neighborhood, licensed plumber.

Black tanks hold around 30 gallons. Toilet bowls hold at the most 1 gallon, add water used to get it to work and how are you not going to overflow in your bathroom. No way I would do that into any house. If there’s access to a septic tank that would be ok but not in my house. Use the macerator to make using the blue trolly better but not in a house.

It is great for pumping up into the bed of the truck, into the poop wagon. I would not recommend towing your poop wagon off the back of a hitch though. The wheels/axle really don't hold up well at all. Charity, you really got the sh@tty end of the deal, huh? LOL I think I would prefer to dump it into the waste line instead of the toilet but it did make for great content!

Why wouldn't you just dump in a regular dump area before heading home? I mean, this maybe makes sense if you have someone staying on your property in the RV, but stopping at a stop before going home to drain your tanks normally seems better to me and the garden hoses wouldn't be contaminated with tank waste. To me this seems extra and costly and to have to keep these hoses separated and not used for the garden or any other purposes seems a bit over the top for a $5 dump fee to be easily covered on your way home.

Depends on access to a dump station, etc. after boondocking or using the RV as a guest house.

We started doing this, and love it. Don't have to go out of our way to a dump station (they're rarely conveniently located for us), wait in line for up to an hour (we're weekend warriors, mostly), and pay $10 (that's what most charge, near us). This way we can go straight home and I can dump while my wife puts stuff away. I can also take my time to thoroughly flush the black tank, without the pressure of holding up the line behind me.

I could pull the slide in and raise jacks and drive to a dump station and dump tanks faster than this. I don’t get the up side of this option. Or just use a portable tank dump and take that to the dump station with a pickup.

Do y’all prefer this macerator/hose for normal dumping stations? Seems like it would be a lot less space for hoses and such than the typical gravity kind…but a LOT to carry around if you kept both types. Not a critique; but a genuine question. 😂

This is definitely not the preferable method (as we mentioned in the video) but doable in a pinch or moochdocking scenario.
