A great KZbin video on cleaning both grey and black tanks with no bleach. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYa6eJ-jZ8yEnKc Black tank cleaning After dumping the black tank and refilling it 1/3 with water 2-3 times to rinse it out follow these steps to an odor free black tank. Add 1-2 Gallons of water in the toilet. Next add 1/2 cup of Borax Soap in the toilet and flush. Borax has water softeners and provides oxidation (by way of the reaction of water and Borax soap which creates Hydrogen peroxide for oxidation) which will break down solids and particulates. Next add 1/4 cup of Dawn soap in the toilet and then flush the toilet. (don't be cheap use Dawn as it works the best.) Now you are done and will have an odor free black tank without using harmful bleach in your system. All done till your next black tank dump. Grey tank cleaning, Same as blank but also add 2 cups of Zep citrus orange cleaner as the last step. This and the Dawn helps break gown fats and oils from skin and whatever oils are left over on dishes, pots and pans while adding a fresh scent.

This is the 5th video I've watched and finally! Someone who actually gives step by step for draining and sanitizing your tanks! After watching those other videos I had no clue you needed to plug in a separate hose for your black tank and run it while you're dumping the black tank. Thank you guys for not assuming us newbies know anything. Because this newbie doesn't. ❤️
@Darkmuda013 жыл бұрын
We're soon to be RV'ers, so I found your videos to learn some of the basics. I am just in the process of watching this one, and have a slight correction/suggestion. I deliver fuel for a living, and the process is similar in that spills are highly frowned upon in both black tank emptying and fuel tank emptying. My suggestion is, when hooking or unhooking the hose, always start with the empty end. At the beginning, connect the hose to the ground fitting first, then the RV. At the end, disconnect the RV end first, then the ground. That way, no big mess in the beginning if you accidentally open the gate valve. At the end, you'll be able to "walk out" any left over liquid that is left in the hose and drain it into the ground tank. If you follow that order every time, spills and even drips will be almost non-existent. Great videos!

Another tip I saw that seems valuable: dump your grey tank for a minute FIRST. That way if you have a leak or if there's any problem with the sewer hookup, the fluids that escape are grey tank. Highly preferable to leaking sewage water. When you see everything is fine, close the grey tank and THEN open the black tank.

Howdy Carl and Nee Nee (pron: Nay Nay). We got bored and while checking our feeds we found this older vid on dumping. Really nice step by step process. When we first learned the “process” over a year ago an experience full timer (10yrs plus) was watching me do the deed and he wandered over to help. He mentioned all the stuff y’all talk about here but one thing he coached and I still do today is to dump the black, then close the valve and refill the black tank with the flush hose (carefully monitoring the level). I then dump the black tank again, repeating the process at least twice. This helps insure the “piling” that could occur in the black tank gets good and flushed out. At the end of the process I let the flush line run for an additional few minutes like y’all do here. We also use a plastic potty pig we bought on Amazon that is water filled to hold the waste hose down on the dump hole, which we leave on the entire time we are parked. Good advice throughout the video, as always fun to watch AND informative. Be well and it was fun going back to one of your earlier videos.

Hey Warren! This is such a great idea, and this is something we practice all the time as well!! 😀🙌🏼 I guess it would be more of an “off the book practice” but it is something that we do every single time we dump as well! So glad you brought this up, and we are happy to hear that you guys also do the same thing. Have y’all ever had a problem with your black tank getting clogged?
@warrenbrooks65573 жыл бұрын
@@HappilyEverHanks Goodest Morning to youse guys. While at a resort in SC our 11 yr old grand daughter visited and stayed with us for a week. We explained what could (and could not) be flushed but she apparently did not fully understand and something clogged us up bad. I immediately turned to “The Tube” and found a solution posted by The Brazen Brits who also full time. Using their back flush method of shutting the valve we have on our dump hose, filling with grey water, lifting it above the exit port level, quickly opening up the dump valve and the black tank valve simultaneously we were able to clear the “debris” and let ‘r’ rip. They explain and demonstrate it very well in their video. That saved me a couple hundred bux not having to call a mobile tech fer sher. We really appreciate y’all replying to our comments!! Have a great day, enjoy the 4th and tip back a white claw or two (we will be enjoying the great craft beers of Vermont ourselves). Be Well!

We don’t rv full time, but we have owned an rv for a few years now and take it out camping all the time. I never knew about the burp for knowing when your black tank is full! Thanks for that tip. Last year we went on a longer than usual trip and once our sensor said full We kind of freaked out and found other toilets to use (there were some nasty campground toilets that fit the bill for the last 2 days of our trip). It hadn’t started burping, so now that I know that tip I’ll have more peace of mind on our longer trips!

Super tip: Close the black tank valve and let the flush hose fill your tank for about 7 minutes, then pull the black tank valve open and you will be shocked what comes out! Repeat this process a couple of times and you will continue to see waste in each flush. Simply leaving your flush running doesn’t really cut it, you must fill and dump at least twice.
@HappilyEverHanks2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing Jonathan! We actually add this into our process but didn't want to advise teaching people to shut the valve and let it fill up if they are newbies. Too many stories where people forgot and it overflowed! You are right though, so much will come out if done right!

I have an additional tip. I carry a second sewer hose in a second black hose container that I've strapped to our rig. We have been to a few sites where they were originally a dry camp set up and added dump hook-ups later. They were usually in the front of the sites for probably "ease to add" reasons. Anyway, our one hose would not reach. For the same reasons, we got an extension for our power cable and fresh water hose as well. The power cord is a little heavy but worth it in my opinion.

A great tip for newbies is to slow down and calm down when backing your rig into your spot. If there are people waiting to drive past your spot, let them wait!! If you try and hurry so you don’t hold them up, that’s when mistakes will happen and they can be pricey! Most other campers will understand and if they don’t, that’s their problem. If you run the rig into a tree or a pedestal, the people waiting will just drive on by, leaving YOU with an expensive repair.

Hi Renee and Kyle....😀 👋 What a great "how too" video. Fantastic job. I have a rainbird flow meter that I put on the hose hooked up to the sani flush port on our trailer. That way I have a close proximation to the amount of gallons I have put in the black tank when flushing it. Generally when we dump the black tank I try to flush it a minimum of 3 times. Get all the ewee out. We have a 40 gallon black tank. Once I am done dumping the black tank I then add 3 to 5 gallons into the black tank. This gives us a good "base" in the black tank. After all, "The solution to pollution is dilution". Our tip...get out and enjoy today because we are not promised tomorrow. 😎 Funny thing....my Sunday video is about changing out the manual black tank valve and intalling an Electric gate valve in our 5th wheel. Take Care you two and safe travels!! 👍 Sean

First, Great Content! Very fun and informative videos. Keep up the good work! Speaking of cross contamination.. You should consider the order of hooking up and disconnecting your dedicated flush hose. You don't want to leave nasties on your knows that will get transferred when you aren't wearing those gloves. 😉 Ideally, you aren't using the same gloves after you handled the black tank hose, to hook up to the water spigot and your clean water panel. Hooking the flush hose up first, before your hands and gloves are dirty, and disconnecting it last, after you have secured your black tank hose and cleaned your gloves, should keep the dirty germs off of your water supply panel.

Great video for someone new to RVing. I remember my first time dumping my tanks. I watched a ton of KZbin videos and I still didn’t know what to do. One thing I would mention as an alternative to dumping at a campground is using a macerator to pump your waist out. I use it while moochdocking. I can pump my waist through a garden hose 100 feet into the sewer system in a house or in a toilet.

😂🤣😂 OMG. I just fell out of my chair laughing with that presentation. Good info for total newbies. That wink from Dexter just topped it all off. BTW: I must have a weird toilet--It never burped or the design of the tank is different than yours. I can't believe the number of people that use hand sanitizer thinking that it is just as good as using soap and water. Oh, and I noticed that Carl didn't use proper hand washing technique after that job. When I hook up to drain and flush my tanks, I also use a back-flow re-stricter on the hose for added insurance. True story: A trailer pulled in next to the space where I was parked (for the summer) and just about had a conniption fit. The guy had about 30 feet of hose going from the black tank to the sewer connection without a hose support (it ran uphill) and left the tank open. I spoke to him about leaving his tank open and his response was he just couldn't stand the idea of having pooh stay in the tank. I couldn't convince him otherwise. I walked away just shaking my head. All I could think of was the person(s) that would purchase that trailer after he got rid of it. Talk about issues with the black water tank!!!

We have been camping for a couple of decades in a pop up. Never had to deal with black or gray tanks. Well, we had a portable gray tank we ran a hose to from the sink. Anyway, black tanks are something new since we bought the big rv last year. We have been on maybe 5 camping trips and on our last one, I discovered the drain in the ground at the rv park is... threaded. LOL. Up until that point, I just jammed the connector into it and sat some rocks on top.

I’ve watched many different Rv videos and owned a Rv for over thirty years, after a thirty year career of driving transport trucks North America wide and one weekly practice that should be practiced is checking the wheel bearing temperatures. Immediately after driving walk around and touch the rims near the lug nuts. If you find one wheel hotter than the others it may need attention and serviced if all feel the same temperature then the bearings are running good. I even do this with my small utility trailers.
