this is the strangest band I have seen live.. I had many friends who swore how great they were, but it never came across in the recordings. Then in 2007 I saw them live and it was spiritual. I still don't know what or how it happened but I fell in love. Do yourself a favor, No matter what your impression is here, see them live, then tell me I'm wrong..

Seriously. There are people who would love to be there & if YOU ARE NOT PRESENT THAN YOU HAVE NO OVERALL CONTEXT OF WHAT YOU ARE WITNESSING (except: your self). Everyone is unique & special, BUT that does NOT man to follow that everyone is OF AN ARTISTIC OUTPUT, thoughtfully originated in the quest for who, what, where, when, why: CONSUMPTION as a story, a tale. A kin’feed…ahh those DIRTY THREE! Thank you!

People so rarely appreciate true passion and greatness. Go to a Dylan concert and see exactly the same kind of absurd audience. It makes me wanna puke. I've been a huge Dirty Three fan for years - ever since I heard them in a thrift store in Hollywood while I was waiting to go see Bob. Ha ha -- I'd forgotten that 'til I started writing. Perfect.
@davebirney
@davebirney 8 жыл бұрын
+Stephanie Talley yea but they are playing at a desk though, inside a dimly lit office. its not the kind of space that would inspire you to really appreciate something like this. its definitely not the kind of place where people would let their guard down and start losing their shit and dancing around, unless you have one like the dan deacon show where he interacts with the audience a lot more and makes them dance around. this guy is great and all, but he has his back turned for the whole thing, which is ok, but its not surprising the audience isn't really going mental. and its also just 18 minutes long. barely enough time to warm people up. what would you think of bob dylan if you heard him first on your lunch break in a dark office playing 3 songs with his back turned and the songs had no lyrics lol?

Sorry. I just can't sit still when I see Dirty Three play live so I'm bitching. Plus I would have like to have been their. Saw them at their show on this tour though so I can't complain. DT's albums are awesome but they really are batshit good live. The old bearded guy's verbal descriptions of the songs are usually totally random but very accurate in describing the emotions that the song creates, after a little reflection. I'm old and have seen them at least 10 times in the US, and it's never been time or money wasted. But they're not to everyone's tastes. Fair enough.

After listening to NPR's degeneration into just another mouthpiece for power (cf. “NPR Watch” for many examples), living in DC for some time and watching the type of people drawn to work in places like NPR, and listening to Dirty Three since their inception I am afraid that the audience’s lack of emotions comes as no surprise. These people are “company men” of the first rate and therefore unwilling to potentially loose their places in a shallow pond for inappropriate emotional expression. Sad.
