Hey, Dan, Merry Christmas! The HO Polar Express set (as well as the other passenger sets that use this same tooling) is a nice one for what it is, but I do agree, its pretty pricey for the level of detail and features it posseses. That said, one of the clone sets I mentioned (which happened to be a Santa Fe passenger set) I saw at the club a couple of years ago, showed to be a very solid and smooth performer with respectable sounds. I think if Lionel had lowered the price some like you mentioned, it wouldn't be viewed near as negatively as it is!

I always wanted to see what the Lionel's version of a Berk all was about. Now, seeing it, I think my older Bachmann Berk with DCC onboard is a little better. Besides what is pointed out about the locomotive, it is a nice set to see run.
