something extraneous to note: azathioprine and 6-mercaptopurine (which was mentioned in the purine synthesis video i believe) is metabolized and made inactive by xanthine oxidase. in a question, if a patient is taking those medications and is also given allopurinol to perhaps help their gout, then you run of risk of azathioprine/6MP toxicity/buildup

If are wondering how AMP is linked to this reaction , IMP can be converted to AMP and GMP. AMP is converted to its nucleoside Adenosine, and adenosine is then converted to Inosine by Adenosine deaminase hence salvaging AMP. Adenosine deaminase deficiency is the major cause of autosomal recessive severe combined immunodeficiency
