Jason Heavner My take on this is this- Back in the day we diehard Earnhardt fans DID NOT pull for Gordon whatsoever, Zero. It was us against them. That’s it. Hendricks Motorsports was your arch enemy!! And after Dales Death we kind of took up with Jr somewhat. Not with the same intensity but somewhat. And to be honest I never could really accept his decision to drive for Hendrick, never. I put up with it yes, but just didn’t feel right wearing hats , shirts with Hendrick on it.

Dude had 47 wins in 5 years. Never been a more dominant stretch in modern era of NASCAR. People forget how crazy good they were. Even Jimmie Johnson's best 5 year stretch is 34 wins.

I wish they would make it OLD school again Make them "STOCKcars" not heavy Formula one cars. In my opinion the word STOCK CAR needs to be remembered. Nascar in my opinion has went backwards since the car of tomorrow, in race quality. Due to costs a guy like Dale Sr. today may not exist or ever get a chance to race at all, a guy who busted his tail and through hard work and persistence became a legend from the efforts of his own 2 hands working and his driving skills. If the cars had more in common to a car i can buy and drive I think nascar would get back what it is losing. But at the same time i understand, how can you go backwards, tough situation. When a championship winning team has to close shop there is a problem. Nascar should not be F1 in costs.

Listening to Dale Jr's podcast has really given a different perspective of Sr. Hearing about him coming up and how he became "The Intimidator" has given me even more respect for the man and I was never a NASCAR fan but I always liked Sr. Understanding that he drove how he drove because it meant he wasn't gonna eat if he didn't, you start to understand. He did whatever he could to win in those days. And that became Dale Sr. The Intimidator.

As someone who left the sport when Jeff Gordon did, I love that these two guys are friends. There aren't many genuine charasmatic people like Dale Jr and Jeff Gordon. It's why Nascar is dead, playoffs cost Jeff at least 2 titles, he should be a 6 time champ. The sport needs more personalities where drivers are beholden to sponsors and seem like robots.

I had the fortunate opportunity to be around Dale long, long before he became a superstar. My dad was in the same hunting club with Dale and Neil Bonnet. Both Mr. Earnhardt and Mr. Bonnet were regular guys who loved to hunt.

Jr really respects Jeff. I’ve heard him talk in other interviews about his love for Hendrick MS and Rick too. It’s taken me a long time but man Jr is a good guy, good husband and good father. DJ GREEDER, BULLCRAP. I worked at Daytona, Darlington, and Talladega NASCAR tracks 1996-2006 as part of the security/safety teams. Of camera, behind the scenes, "Wonder Boy" wasn't a humble nice guy at all. At least twice, at Daytona Speedway garage area, he told a few fans to F-off. Another time, a woman bought a #24 hat and asked him to autograph it. He said "GFY" to her. She got really angry and threw the hat at him. He called her a POS and started to approach her. Our team stopped him from doing that. I told him to look in a mirror for the real POS. I wish that he'd gotten physically aggressive with me.

That was absolutely the greatest time in Nascar. It was just so exciting and interesting to be a fan. I was a big Gordon fan and also Sterling Marlin fan because he is from Nashville. Those super speedway races were so freaking good. There was so many great drivers and story lines to follow. I don't think Nascar can ever get that magic back but I'm thankful I was around to see it happen.

Wow it would have been such a treat, to hear Dale Sr call races from the booth (post retirement). Hearing his views and secrets on each track. I still say his passing was the biggest blow to NASCAR.. or at least the first major blow. Poor Jimmy, his 7 championships, credit is due he earned them... but he'll never wear it like Earnhardt did. Really though, we shouldn't put people on such pedestals.. If Earnhardt could tell us anything now, he'd say find Jesus!

Eric Gambrel because for 26 races another driver dominated (usually Jeff Gordon) and then the chase starts and resets everyone’s points and the guy who should of been down by 300 points has a better final 10 races and steals the championship. It gave Jimmie a fresh start when he would have been screwed in the better years of nascar. Nowadays it’s even worse. If you win one out of the first 26 races, you’re in the chase. So many irrelevant races. The chase ruined a lot imo

As a Dale Sr fan I can remember him giving Jeff the ultimate compliment. Ray had just left as his crew chief and Jeff won almost immediately. After the race Sr said something to this effect “ I guess Jeff can win races by himself”

I guess i am getting old, I rather watch my two favorite drivers talk chit about the past than watch current races. I think I am losing interest in NASCAR since I do not play virtual racing anymore. Back in the day when you were still a teen, and I was in my early 20s, I remember racing with you on the Sierra / Papyrus NASCAR RACING simulator/game. Back when it was still BETA test on the TEN Network if I remember correctly. I was mainly a "Professional Quake Player" But when the TEN Hawaii Beta test came out that was my game for the next 10 years. We were in the same race club for some reason you Mr. Dale Jr. seem to give a chit about me or was in a good mood that day, and gave me 3 race setups, one for TEXAS, one for Bristol, and one for restrictor Plates. They made me go from a driver to a winner. I used that Texas setup until they removed that "bump" out of 4. The question I always wonder is it courage or Insanity that allows you race like that in real life? In the time I raced "on simulators" i must of died 30 times or more times a year just on the crazy wrecks I always ended up in trying to hard to compete. Even greater is the courage to get back in the car after a wreck. Dale and Jeff I miss you two racing but I am glad you got the help needed on your concussion.

The only other time I have seen anything as amazing as watching dale race was watching Dale Jr win Daytona not long after he passed. Dale Jr has brought honor to his dads memory and In my mine his looking down on him a very proud father. Been Dale Jr fan since he started Winston Cup.Dale Jr is a master at Daytona and Talledega like his dad was. Dale Sr,Dale Jr,Bill Elliot ,Rusty Wallace,Richard Petty,Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart,Mark Martin etc . That era of racing was just so amazing and I look forward to seeing these new guys get to that level of intensity and rivalry. And their are some great new talented guys . 🤘😎🤘

I saw a beautiful sight just about a month ago. I was rolling down I-89 towards White River Junction in my Honda Element. It was a little sloppy that day, wintry mix, so I was cruising along at the speed limit. I could see this large truck growing larger and larger in my rearview mirror. He was on the move! When he rolled by me, it was so awesome. The truck may have been a rig that once hauled Dale's cars from track to track. It was so awesome! Then we hit the junction of 89 and 91. He kept on rolling towards Concord, NH, and I headed South.

He could have rejected it all he wanted too. He'd just have to stop racing. You folks that think he held some God position over NASCAR are delusional. The only thing that has power over them is the almighty dollar. Sr. wasn't gonna change that. He'd have been retired anyway. I don't like comparing drivers across generations. Things change. Tracks, cars, technology, money. Heck, even within their own careers success becomes fleeting at some point. It all changes. There's no certainty any of the greats would have been so in other times. When Petty won 200 races, they raced a lot more and against lesser competition. He wouldn't get anywhere near 200 wins now. Earnhardt probably wouldn't have 7. Gordon may not have won anything in the 60s & 70s. We already know Gordon would have had more championships if the point system didn't change. JJ would have less. Beyond speculation and belief in our driver, we just don't know. One thing I do like when ranking a driver is success with different crew chiefs. Earnhardt and Gordon both had it. JJ hasn't.

Anyone remember an impromptu press conference with dale, sr, and dave marcus? They pretty much blamed the recent deaths, at the time, on the full face helmets. Something about the extra weight of the helmet. Drivers were getting their necks broken. The HANS device was optional at the time.

I remember a story I heard years ago, in Daytona, for the 500, owners and drivers were bringing their boats in to dock, and I think it was Felix Sabatis said he was on his boat and all of a sudden a big shadow was cast over his boat. I know this is probably beating a dead horse but they took all the prestige out of the sport with the way the championship is decided. It used to mean so much more before the chase. The change alienated a lot of fans who appreciate the consistent grind of the old format. To me its a true motor sports season, not the randomness of a 10 race shootout. A top 5 during the season used to mean something. Now, not as much. It cheapens the whole experience at least for me. I still enjoy races but I grew up a Dale Sr. fan and I'm lucky to have got to see 90's Nascar. Golden age for the sport.

They're trying to be like the NFL, NBA with the "stages" being a quarter/period and the "Chase" and playoff bullshit. "Overtime" is absolute horseshit, the entire race means nothing if someone can run first all day and then lose on a green-white-checkered when it takes 2 laps to get up to speed. Absolute gimmick and not real racing.

@@lockandreload I'm with you. The "overtime" thing, I can admit it puts Nascar in a tough spot. You're dead on when it takes a couple laps to even really get up to speed, how can you let the race be decided by what's just essentially a short drag race? Same time you don't want the race to end under caution like it used to before overtime, that's even worse.

The rivalry between 'The Intimidator #3 Old School Badass' and Jeff Gordon - Rainbow Warrior, Ray Evernham, is the reason I am a NASCAR fan today. I lived in TN at the time and remember rejoicing and cheering when Gordon beat #3 - mainly just to piss off the natives.
