When I started taking dance lessons I ordered new wheels because mine were a bit slippery for the edges needed when dancing with mum partner. Can't wait to get them to hit the rink and the outdoor park in my area. I thank you for explaining the different types of wheels and the number system used. Now I can make a better informed purchase. When all the major rinks closed down in the 90s in New Zealand I could only skate outdoors, sometimes with the rollerbladers, I started to use skateboard wheels because that's all I could find, as they wore down thinner I'd find other old skateboards and steal their wheels, generally I use fairly hard, large skateboard wheels but they are crap on really rough concrete and probably need some slightly softer hybrids.

It's really fun to come back to these older vlogs and see the progress we make as creators. Proof that I need to continue trucking on with my channel. Just like skating... We all have to start somewhere. I was all set to edit my videos, only to find out that the sound cut out on my footage... So, I just realized that every time that I go to film, I need to conduct a sound check before I call CUT!!! LOL!!! LOL... I've been tryna kill myself looking for the durometer of the phenolic wheels... and you just said it here, "so hard, they don't even have a hardness rating..." LOL... However, when you conduct a list to compare and contrast, it's difficult for me, when all fields are not filled in. I just gotta roll with it.

Years ago I could skate without even thinking about falling, it was on the steel wheels. When I grew older I had a lace up pair that had wooden wheels. I was told by an indoor skating instructor, that I had a strong skating stance. It was was a result of all of those years growing up skating with steel wheels, on many ruff and bumpy concrete sidewalks. Many years later The rink that I had become accustomed to going to closed its doors one day, and another business moved into the facility. One day I decided to skate outside and it was glorious. I later went to another rink that was far from home. I thought that I would glide around th rink a few turns and was surprised to know that my well used lace up skates had me slipping and sliding across the floor. It was quite embarrassing. I had ruined the wheels when I took a spin around the neighborhood. Back then I was young and not into keeping my equipment in good working order, I didn't even think about replacing the wheels, I also had out grown the skate, I never realized that they were a half size too small till I was giving them away. Talk about clueless. They were a christmas gift that I held onto for a very long time. I'm in my 70's now and too afraid of hurting something. Some driveways have a incredibly steep slope. I'm glad that I don't have to navigate any of those. I hope that the trainer (not a person) will help me to gain the confidence that I lost when I became a senior citizen, then I can put it in a corner while I have fun. Wheeeeee? By the way, going forward was the only thing that I did, and a short controlled turn around. I never fell, except once, when my wheel fell off.

I skated indoor with 78A wheels for months and when it comes to spinning and grooving around, I feel wrong and I thought it was me lol I'm buying indoor wheels asap, thank you Deborah

Thank you so much for this vid! I was looking everywhere for information on durometer, indoor vs outdoor, what the heck is a speed wheel anyway?! and was struggling to find a concise explanation. This helped me so much! I've been skating outside a bunch thanks to "social distancing" but I'm in Colorado so the snow will be here soon, relegating me to skating in my hallway... so I ordered a new set of indoor wheels. But sounds like I need a third set of harder wheels too! I'm hoping I'll go back to your videos and find one just on bearings so I'll be better informed when I buy my next set. Keep on keepin' on!

Looks like it will be the harder indoor wheel as I have a set of hybrids and outdoor. What hardness would you suggest for my first indoor wheels?
@MystiqueRisingSun4 жыл бұрын
@@MyLazyDM Honestly, I'd start softer and build up. You know the floor best, though...so it's really up to you on *where* to start. Certainly no less than a 92A, though.

Great video! Not suitable for my purposes today but I have it saved for when the time comes. I personally haven't skated in a million years but remember how much joy it brought me so I am getting ready to introduce my grandkids to the activity for the first time at Christmas which is what brought me to your video. I am trying to decide on what skates to buy them and it seems the options are nearly endless (so much different than way way way back when I was skating!!) and I just don't know how I am going to be able to make a decision. I have become so overwhelmed not only from the infinite number of options but also by my deep desire for them to fall in love with skating. I am trying to ensure that I have done everything I can to give them a proper foundation to get started with because I know that if they have a negative experience right at the start then there is very little chance for them to give it another try later in their lives. Skating is not overly popular in our area so future exposure is doubtful. I am hopeful that they will find skating to be super fun, a great way to exercise & build strength and a very useful activity to relieve stress and anxiety. So again, thank you for the informational video and I hope I have a need for the information in the coming months.

This is really helpful, as the skates I have come with outdoor or gummy wheels, and I've been having trouble trying to turn, and go backwards, whereas my sister can do it easily, because she has indoor wheels! I'll purchase some indoor wheels right away, thank you!

Hi Dirty, I really enjoy watching your channel on skating. I just started back skating again after 40+ years. I bought some Chicago style skates and I had to replace the wheels after the first time out. The wheels did not roll very well so I bought some Rollerbone wheels 101As and some ball bearings. My question is the wheels I got have grooves in them, this is new to me, most wheels i have seen are solid and smooth. I am a indoor rink skaters so the wheels give me a smooth roll but they seen to have more grip. What is the advantage/disadvantage to having grooves in the wheels. Thanks for providing great instructions, I look forward to new episodes.

Yo ! Dirty ! Have really really been enjoying your courses , my daughters and me , we just love skating on quads , we luv it we luv it we luv it ! You rock , and no shame or fear on my part , I take them skating , we are learning to skate and getting better every day . Lol , I got a pair of VNLA blue skates because I liked how they look , this was before watching your videos . After replacing the bumpers and wheels I can skate pretty ok for an old school rookie on the completely wrong skate for me , however it challenged me , and I have learned and I have made them work and I am all the better for it.
