Depends on the rink floor for me. The floor at my home town rink is very grippy, so I skate Vintage All American Dreams, Labeda Elegant 101a, and Varsity 101a. I bought and rolled Scott’s urethane once, but the VFH was a little too grippy for my floor and weight, 205 lbs. I would definitely use them for racing and floors that aren’t as grippy though. Great part about Scott’s wheels is that I sold them for the same price I bought them for in under 3 days.

I’ve got a set of these wheels. Got purple Phantom wides. They are 97a and are the best wheels I have ever skated on. Like said in the video.. They grip when u need them to! Ordered them directly from Scott. Been on them about 2 years skating twice a week. Still have all their grooves! Just amazing. The ability to order the color and hardness I wanted was incredible.

@RobMonty2482 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the floor, you can have 10,000 wheels not stick on certain floors due to all kinds of conditions. Those who skate a lot, like, roller derby peeps, going from rink to rink, floor to floor, each person usually have about 5 sets of wheels, if you cant stick, or cant slide enough, there are problems. Just like speed skating. The floor calls for different wheels, so, there really cant be *the best* due to this. But we can have favorites for many reasons. Buying someones idea of the best may not work out well where you skate. Lota variables.
@Kimochisuki3 жыл бұрын
It blows my mind that nobody cares on the mass production or make emphasis on this topic! He make a really important statement and investigate really well about difference between good urethane that last forever; but have long process and the mass production fast process that doesn’t last and is poor quality made! Obviously people gonna buy a cheap good looking wheel that u can purchase anytime u want. Instead of buy an expensive well made good urethane material that u have to wait a generous amount of time to be made but will last forever! Idk if my message is right, English is not my first language but I catch really well the message from him. I’ll like to see more videos like this one talking some science behind of how the product we gonna invest our money is made and how industry is perpetuating the marketing, poor materials and the carbon footprint they leave in the world. Thank you for this video!❣️🛹

Just a tiny correction to your video at 5:00. Most mass produced wheels use hot poured urethane. Corey's wheels and the Bont Royal Assassins use cold poured urethane. You accidentally got them mixed around.
@DeezSkates4 жыл бұрын
I’ll admit that I don’t personally know enough about wheel production to argue otherwise, but when I said that I didn’t get them backward. I got that information off of Bont’s own website. They claimed that most wheels are cold poured and that the Royal Assassin, which is made by Scott Corey, was hot poured and took more time to cure because of it.
@sunnyape3144 жыл бұрын
@@DeezSkates OK, thanks for the update. Bont have discontinued the Royal Assassins, so their web page isn't available.
@DeezSkates Жыл бұрын
@@sunnyape314 I know it's been awhile since this comment, but I thought of it while researching for another video. I found a reference to this topic on the Bont website here: bont.com/blogs/skate-technology/roller-skate-wheels-royal-assassin?no_rule=true&gclid=Cj0KCQiAgOefBhDgARIsAMhqXA436ibjSG-qrkhgpxgkv15kO-qHQrqXfkkW0PbWm8_W5Of5qeLo8QMaAiAEEALw_wcB It claims: "Virtually every roller skate wheel on the market is made using cold cast urethane using a process where the urethane is dispenser using a machine at room temperature. Cold cast urethane sets at room temperature and is great for mass production of roller skate wheels. Cold cast roller skate wheels are often run through a tunnel oven on a conveyor belt and once they pop out the other side they are demolded and the molds are quickly cleaned and used again. There is another type of urethane called hot-cast urethane which is a more exotic urethane. This type of urethane is excellent for roller skate wheels but it needs to be baked in an oven for many hours for it to cure. This means that it will be expensive to produce because the wheel molds cant be used over and over on the same day, ovens need to be used, and not very many wheels can be produced each day. But, the roller skate wheels that do get produced are at a different level to cold cast urethanes. " As I said before, I do not personally know enough about the chemistry involved in the process to contest or validate any of these claims, but wanted to share the link and Bont's claim for informational purposes.

100% @Deez Skates. I just put together a pair of skates with 495's, Reactor Pros and a set of Jim Garrett hubs with Scott Corey urethane. The wheels are so unlike anything I've ever skated, that I honestly can't compare them to any other wheels. Like you said, they're unbelievably grippy for how firm they are and they're so incredibly predictable in the way that they break away. I skated in the late 90's and rode a lot of the popular wheels of the time; Hyper Cannibals, Wicked Lips etc. None of those wheels even came close to the feel of the Scott Corey urethane. If you're any kind of serious rink skater, these are probably the best investment you can make, when it comes to improving your setup.
@unicyclist03 жыл бұрын
Now when you say they last longer. Do you have any actual numbers? I know there are a million variables, but any anecdotal examples? I'm looking into them with some JG Hubs as I wear out the second hand RADAR bullets I have.

Hey. I can't say. I've never used Anabolix before, but I have spoke with the owner of Anabolix about this. He claims that the urethane experience is comparable with the differences being: 1. Anabolix break in faster than Scott Corey wheels. 2.Because they break in faster they do not last as long. He talked about sending me a set to test, but I never heard back and life got busy so I did not follow up again.

Janelly, You can never compare shoe size to skate size. All skates are different and require a more accurate fit than a shoe to be fully functional. My advice is to contact the shop you plan to buy from, even if it’s online and get help. Or, look up Riedell’s official sizing chart and measure you’re feet, then contact a shop and discuss which size will be best for you. No matter what though, you’ll have to get accurate foot measurements. Good luck and happy skating!

I have two sets of Scott's wheels. They're good wheels for sure. Very hard wearing. But like any wheels, they're only the best when they're the optimal wheels for a given situation, skating style, skating surface. Even weather. But I've always thought of them as speed wheels? That's why I have them. That's when finding the optimal set of wheels really matters. No idea why anyone would use them for dance when any old cheap wheels would do?
@DeezSkates2 жыл бұрын
Dancing, on an advanced level requires it's own type of precision just like speed skating. For anyone who is good at dancing, using any old set of cheap wheels will be a horrible experience. Just like speed skating in any cheap set of wheels would be.

What makes a wheel faster
@DeezSkates3 жыл бұрын
The wheel’s ability to maintain its round shape under the pressure of your weight makes it consistently roll faster. Therefore, harder wheels are faster than softer wheels. The problem is that hard wheels cannot usually grip as well as soft wheels because since the wheel doesn’t flatten as much to the surface you do not have as much contact on the floor. So the fascinating thing about Scott’s wheels is that they maintain their hardness wheel having superior grip, which a lot of mass produced wheels do not do. In the Inline skating world, you’ll hear the same thing said about Under Cover wheels that quad skaters say about Scott Corey’s wheels.
