Do you think the data is a lot worse due to it going on an unmarked dirt road? (And possibly narrow-ish road? I can’t tell) My Tesla in general doesn’t drive nearly as good in neighborhoods that are unmarked vs the main, striped roads. I wonder if it gets confused and lost more easily?

There is a very good reason why FSD is NOT allowed in the EU. It is a KILLER. The system behaves as if radar technology is still used, as it is obviously only metal objects (the bike) that make the car stop. Personally, I would not trust it, and I think it is a mistake to switch to “camera only” as it cannot provide certain information, but must only be left to “guess” in relation to what a programmer has told an object is made of. Radar can provide information about the nature of an object such as the reflection of the radar beam, and this can be combined with what the camera sees, and then the estimation will be that much more accurate. The gymnastics ball can be discussed whether it should stop for it. If it “recognizes” it as a gymnastics ball, then it must also have something to do with, for example, traffic coming from behind.

Yes, but he might make it more clear that all the "Fails" are failures of the supervisor (human), not the software. He is testing functionality that has not yet been added to FSD. That's why it is called FSD *_Supervised._* The tests are valid in that they punctuate the need for supervision, but it is presented as if FSD is failing, when it is the driver who is in full control failing.

@@TomTWalkerTesla and Musk are vocally claiming that FSD is almost autonomy ready, with the miles between intervention getting so large that it's hard to improve further. These tests show that's not the case (as is my personal experience using FSD Supervised...crazy behavior from time to time). His video is entirely fair. No one's denying that it's Supervised. But it is a very basic fail not to avoid such obstacles, let alone the very long tail of less common situations.

When Stephanie sits during the experiment, its safer for her to be standing 15 feet or more BEFORE the object on the road, maybe more. This way, if during the FSD attempt to avoid the object, the car does not steer TOWARD her. instead, it removes this risk altogether, since her body is way before the obstacle, if that makes sense. Further proof that most people are incapable of logic. He said multiple times in the video that the Cybertruck is the only model having these particular issues. FSD is certainly not near trustworthy enough everywhere, in all situations, but that does not mean it is not nearly ready for the base models, in some areas. You can see for yourself, from various channels, that 3/Y are doing extremely well, in certain places (e.g. CA). It doesn't have to be perfect everywhere and on every model for them to do limited operations, while progress continues.

I think the Cybertruck continued on the second bike test, because it calculated a worse brake performance and then overshoot the brakes basically. So corrected by letting of and coming to a gentle stop a bit later. This shows nicely why Cybertruck is also overall braking so much harder/unsmooth than 3/Y/S/X, because the Cybertruck brake system is more responsive to the same input.

lmao! best video (and most infromitive….) i’m deciding between an X and a Cybertruck and this video surprised me and has me wondering / hesitant about the Cybertruck. the headlights (i do love where it snows), the wiper and tires (rather expensive to maintain no?), the cost to recharge on road trips (about 150% of other Teslas with superchargers now near .50/kw) are worrying me. thanks for thinking of doing this video! food for thought….

Awesome! The wiper replaced by Tesla is $75 so NBD. The tires will be expensive, but X tires are also expensive and staggered which is annoying. Check out our Cybertruck road trip videos, I compare to road tripping with the X. Energy usage is more but not crazy.

@ how did i miss the X/CT energy comparison video? will check it out tomorrow! had an overnight CT demo tonight and man do i love it! unfortunately my 1-car apt garage isnt big enough for the CT!!! noooooooo! lmao. so i won’t be able to justify it until i have a home charging situation that can accomodate a cybertruck (i still have 8 mos in my apt lease!. thanks again for all your content. it’s probably going to come down now to CT or Junioer (depending on what juniper ends up being).

Agree... bit scary in not recognizing the objects in the road and approaching at too high a speed prior to stopping the few times it did stop. Need to process objects in the road further ahead of the car and react sooner. A related, but slightly different issue is not recognizing pot holes in the road where a human driver would steer to avoid hitting the pot hole. Definitely needs work.

@@marksinclair701 Agree. I think they make "fake" potholes that you can throw on the road for testing.... definitely need to address potholes along with priority objects on the road!

It's only trained on known patterns, like humans etc. However in real-life depending on angle etc. even humans can look unlike a human or just like some arbitrary objects from the camera perspective. That's why sensors like lidar are so important. The occupancy grid/net also won't help, it only has limited accuracy and cannot make up centimeter differences from ground level in further distances with enough confidence. Also occupancy grid/network does not work on moving objects.

This shows they (probably) shouldnt have removed the lidar sensors from Teslas, for things cameras just cant understand or pickup in time

Could the fact that its a drit road have anything to do with this? I imagine it has to be more "forgiving" as to not break too much on these kinds of roads.

Tbh I wouldn't stop for all these things. Maybe FSD shouldn't stop for all of them, I don't see it as an automatic fail if it doesn't. For example the little box or small ball which fall right in between the tires and don't even touch the truck. I think that was correct behaviour.

Require all Teslas with FSD to have at a minimum 2 million dollars worth of coverage. **AND** to be insured as if someone with a learners permit is behind the wheel. The insurance should be CRAZY. As you can tell this tech is 100% ready for taxi service. Don't need a steering wheel at all. You can just sit back in the seat and watch the events take place in front of your very eyes. I hear they have excellent cameras also so you can take yourself home a souvenir to rewatch over and over. Don't worry the family won't miss grandma

I was driving on a back road today with FSD and there is a pedestrian crossing and its dark. There was a pedestrian waiting to cross. I didn't see the person. FSD did and stopped. Love it. its not perfect but it does a great job in some cases. It will only get better.

The fact that doesn't recognise mannequins as people it's really good in fact if they would be recognised as people is much worse as that would be a false positive and this means that could also recognise people on ads and other mannequin, in a potential scenario where one guy is moving a cart containing some mannequins and the car is too fast to slow down it should hit the mannequins and not the guy. So I would actually consider this fact an improvement
