I have to say I like your M8 content videos of all the ones I have seen the most. I find the visual aid during the video really helped me. I have had my M8 for only few days. I was getting frustrated as I was unable to make anything tangible yet. But after watching this video step by step and following along it is getting much easier and making a lot more sense. The Tables !! I had not even messed with that feature before watching this video. After getting basics down on the menu commands and messing with the tables for each Instrument I am getting somewhere. Thank you . I really appreciate your M8 content.

damn, was kind of on the fence whether to get this to have on flights or on the bus to work and I think your video finally pulled me on the side of getting it. very eloquent and helpful, especially the part about tables which isn't very well explained in other overview clips I saw on the M8 here. great job! gonna definitely come back to this one after I get mine. subscribed

@@TristanBaldi ha, fair point :D I will definitely try to integrate it with my Elektron stuff as well. saw another clip of yours with the Digitone. did you try syncing these two yet? if yes, how'd it go?
@TristanBaldi Жыл бұрын
@@shracken I did, and it syncs perfectly. Especially I like sequencing the digitone with the M8 and process it with the M8 fxs. But since I got the M8 I tend to less use several pieces of hardware together. It kind of distracts me from working on a full track if you see what I mean. I often realize I can do everything with the M8 and don't like spending time solving pattern changes issues or even matching the digitone sound with the M8. It's like all the sounds from the M8 kind of blend together much better than with an external synths. Of course you have all the tools to shape an external sound within the M8 (filters, sidechain etc.). I just tend to overkill it when combining the two for now. But it's a great pair. Yesterday I was thinking about pairing the two again soon

Merci d'avance ;)
@TristanBaldi2 жыл бұрын

I am not sure I will buy the device but I have already ordered a teensy 4.1 board and will flash it with m8 headless firmware as soon as it arrives. I am not sure I will know what to do with it after that. My skills at actually making beats that sound good on any music production tool are pretty low. I would love to see tutorials that end up being a musical composition. So I can follow the tutorial and end up with a simple but good sounding track while understanding exactly what is going on.
@TristanBaldi2 жыл бұрын
Hi batner, thank you for your comment. From my experience, a beat that sounds good is a beat you like. The glory of the M8 and some other synths to me is that you have to use your ears a little more than what we are used to on a computer with all the graphic feedback we have. It all depends on what you enjoy doing. Designing sounds? Creating rythmic patterns? Writing melodies? Coming up with great bass riffs? For example, I really like writing melodies. But I know that my melodies will have to lay on a simple yet appealing basis made of a bass and/or drums. So I try to think in blocks. I write a simple melody, then try adding drums for example. And the way I pick the melody and the rythm depends on the way I designed the sounds on the go, or the samples I used. So I try different things: pitching up the sounds, using LFOs etc. and find happy accidents. That's the beauty of it! But if you'd like to start by following a tutorial, there are plenty out there. The M8 is pretty close in its architecture to LSDJ, on Gameboy. It is a million times more powerful but contains all the LSDJ basics. So maybe you can look at the great lecture called "Revision 2018 - Seminar - An introduction to Little Sound DJ" on KZbin, by Revision Demoparty. It is a complete introduction to LSDJ with live examples on how to design and sequence sounds. I watched it not so long ago and thought it was very valuable. I also made livestreams showing how I made my last track 'Merry May', you can find them on my channel. You'll also enjoy watching the Discord meetups of the guys from the M8 Discord server. Especially the meetup #2 for starters. And of course if you pop by my stream while I'm live I'll be happy to show you how to create a beat on the M8.

@@TristanBaldi Hi! Thanks a lot for the long and detailed reply. I will definitely watch what you have suggested. I watched some of your livestream but its like watching any other artist work, you already have an idea of what something should sound like to sound "good" and you play with "knobs" until it does. As you suggested I have installed LSDJ on my abernic 351p emulation portable. Will be doing the tutorials you have suggested. Thanks, again!
