Re what to wear? Wayyyy back in the early years of EPCOT I was dining at "Chefs de France" and chatting with the couple at the next table and recognized him--he was the famous author of the book "Dress for Success" John T. Molloy, and at that point sitting in the elegant French place in my sweat-stained teeshirt and jeans I kind of humorously said I felt a little under-dressed (they were casual too, btw) and he smiled and said THIS and it is the PERFECT advice: "Dan, Anyone who dresses UP to go to DisneyWorld is an ASS!" :)

Most places have loosened their dress codes, but I very much remember (and think there still are) restaurants at Disney that were formal attire only.

What I kept saying to my kids when they started griping about being in line too long or something like that I just kept reminding them "where would you rather be? Waiting in line here at Disney or anywhere else"? Every time they chose Disney and instantly cheered up.

I agree with the whole "don't freak out if it rains" statement. We were at the parks after Christmas back in 2012 and my 18 month old was in a stroller. It started to pour and apparently the people around us thought the world was coming to an end. One guy actually almost knocked the stroller over (with Aubrey in it). It would not have been a happy day for him if he would have hurt her!

Just in general when parents tell there kids there never going to do this again in a negative tone. Just let them enjoy the vacation. Trying to cram everything in because you think it's your last time causes more stress and sadness.

Regarding the break during the day thing, I'm one of those who has always powered-on through the day no matter what. I've always been of the mindset that if the parks should end early, we can always go back to our resort, get a bite to eat, explore the resort, then go to bed. I've also always thought that with the cost of the trip itself, I'm going to get my money's worth and stopping to nap, swim, or just hang around seems like a waste of my hard-earned money. I want my rides, rides, and more rides!

Resort hopping is so underrated I think!! It's awesome to take a day or 2 of your vacation to explore different Disney resorts even if you don't stay at one.

I think a lot of people don't realize you CAN. The fact that every resort has that gate is sort of intimidating. I just wish it was easier to go to other resorts without a car. Sometimes I like to go out the back gate of Epcot and just hang out at that boardwalk area for awhile, and most people I've talked to don't even know that's there.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this podcast!! You all hit on such good points! I'm a Disney veteran and former cast member, and this was such a good reminder of many things to watch out for. LOVED the portion about slowing down, enjoying your time and if you don't get everything done within your "plan" it's okay! You had fun and you know what? You can come back another time and do more things then. Great points guys!!

One time at Disneyland, my youngest lost her Hidden Mickey pocket book. We reported it to the Lost and Found. I wasn't real hopeful, but a couple of weeks after we returned home, that book showed up in the mail!! However, my oldest lost her hat on Splash Mountain that same week, it became part of the ride. We never saw it again.

That’s right Dustin. The GM test track lounge saved us from passing out due to exhaustion for years on end. Going back to the room and napping never appealed to us as that would have meant missing 4 hours or so of Disney magic. No thanks. Lol As my kids got older... we began to sleep later in the morning and head to the parks around 1 and stay out all night. This is what works for us now.

Another suggestion is to research the average temperature of Disney before you start packing for your trip. Wear light colored clothing (especially during the hot spring/summer months,) wear walking shoes, wear a lot of bug spray/sun screen, wear a hat, wear sunglasses, keep hydrated, know that there will be times were you may have to wait for more than 30 minutes in line for any ride/show/restaurant/etc, have a meeting place just in case someone in your party gets lost, try to stay on property (transportation is better, you can take better advantage of the times that the parks stay open longer, etc) make sure that everyone has a cellular phone with them that's working/fully charged, know that you can rent strollers at each park (usually by the main entrance of each park), have a change of clothing in your backpack (in case your kid has an accident or you get really sweaty and want to change clothes,) carry extra money for souvenirs or in case of an emergency, bring hand sanitizer with you, take a picture of your hotel/hotel room number/family/friends/etc just in case that you get lost and someone asks you for information to help you find your peeps and/or hotel, know that certain restaurants at Disney require you to make reservations in advance (some people make reservations 3 or 4 months in advance,) bring an autograph book (you never know if you bump into someone famous while at Disney and not just the Disney characters either, etc.

"You are not a snowflake..." - so true. When I went with my dad we would sit and tally how many people would say, do you know how much this cost? and the person who heard the most had to buy the ice cream :). One tip I have is to wait in line, you'll be amazed about the conversations that people have in the lines! It's a great way to pass the wait time (and often the posted wait time is more than what it actually is!) love the show xx

Don't think that I've been there once (and we go about 10 times a year for a few days) that I haven't witnessed out of state visitors freaking out, being angry and rushing. This is not the place to be if you want to be like that. Chill. You're there for fun.

Am I the only one who, as a kid, actually enjoyed Epcot? I loved the Kidcot! And the movies and little museums were boring when I was really young, but maybe when I was 9 or 10, I found them interesting.

Iris Jones I'm glad to hear that! I probably sound like a grumpy geezer, but it just saddens me that people don't take pleasure in learning and experiencing new things anymore. And I think that was Walt's vision, he wanted people to have fun and learn at the same time.

My 5 year old DGGD loves Epcot. Soarin', Test Track (esp. building her own car), easy side of Mission Space, Spaceship Earth (with it's hilarious videos that we always send home), the Finding Nemo ride, Turtle Talk, the Living Seas aquarium, Club Cool (finding the most delicious and the most yucky) the entertainment (jugglers, hand balancers, acrobats) and princesses around World Showcase. Lots to do there. Can't wait 'til she's tall enough to do Sum of all Thrills!

I'm going next month with 3 kids, aged 2 to 9, and I most def. will be taking a mid day break. Not for me so much, but I don't want the little ones to be exhausted. Even if we just jump on the People Mover and ride it for a few rounds, anything to let the little one rest her body and brains and not be TOO stimulated.

Hi, mine is take some snacks with you that you can carry easily, like protein bars, nuts etc stuff like that, so in case you filled up at Breakfast or Lunch you won't need to go eat needless and waste more time, also take bottled water with you small ones. I ship a box of goodies down to my Hotel a week or so before I get there so everything is there for me. :) Wishing I was working with you guys so badly. I need to figure out how to make this dream/goal come true. I am hating NJ lately. Lv Lucille xox

I fly Spirit out of Atlantic City several times a year. (2 hr drive for me from New Brunswick) I'm a $9 fare member, so I can get tickets for as little as $116.00 into Orlando - round trip! Plus they have a 7:30AM flight going so I'm in the parks by 12 noon on the first day, and they have late flights coming back, so I'm in the parks until 5PM on the last day. I save all year and buy an annual pass for a little over $600, and after my 6th day of park hopping, I'm essentially getting into the parks for free for the rest of the trips. If I go down every other month for 4 days, I'm saving $1628 by buying a pass. At 5 days every other month, I'm saving $1694. Plus, as an annual passholder, I get even better discounts on rooms, which includes free transportation to and from the airport via Magical Express. Once I buy my pass, I can do a 4 or 5 day trip most times of the year for under $400 for everything. It's become my second home! I was there 2 weeks ago to enjoy the Christmas shows and decorations, and I'm heading back down in two more weeks for a mid-winter getaway. You should really consider an annual pass. It is so worth it. Hope you get down there soon. PS - I agree with the snack tip. I bring protein bars, and pre-made pb&js, and I drink park water during my stay - bottled water adds up.

Is it true the mods at DisBoards ban anyone who says anything negative about Disney world? I see a lot of people say they're super intolerant of any opinion that is 100% pro Disney lol. Also that Dreams unlimited who runs the site is controlled by Disney as to what to promote on the boards.

I don't see how that is true considering they have said pretty bad things themselves about some of the resorts, restaurants, rides, ect. Maybe if you're being really inappropriate but I can't imagine them having a problem with someone giving their honest opinion, especially, when they discuss some of the negative things they've heard and agree with it.

Re happy/sad faces, naps, etc. etc.? People feel obligated due to the expense and limited vacation time to cram EVERYmoment full of stuff and that's hard WORK. The same is true, btw, re faces if you look at the people on the Vegas strip making what looks like the Bataan Death March to see every hotel all day in 100-degree heat. People need to re-think vacations as "Let's do a few things REALLY well" events, I think, unless they have the money and time to take a week. Most don't, but try to do it anyhow. THAT is the BIGGEST mistake of all.

Things I learned: Don't do the water park on the first day; at least if your a pasty white Canadian who has not seen sun in the past eon! Despite applying sunscreen a good few many times during the day I was in and out of the water so many times got me a bad sunburn that lasted my whole vacation and made me super tired and very much in pain!

What climate do you think Canada has? Why don't you learn something about another country
@whalenjana
@whalenjana 10 жыл бұрын
andy wall Actually, i'm from Canada and have lived here all my life. On top of that...I have a university degree in Geography in which I took at least 3 climatology courses. I was, in fact referring to myself. I live on the very east coast Canada in the provence of Newfoundland. If your visiting Florida from there, especially in May after a long cold winter (last year there was snow from the middle of November to the day that I left on May 6th when my plane was delayed for de-icing and snow on the tarmac!) then chances are your skin has not seen sun in a while and might be a bit sensitive too it. Why don't you learn not to judge what someone does and does not know from a KZbin comment :)
