I was homeless in LA for 7 years. I'm back East now, and I'm just a hair's breath away from being right back out there. I will be trying to recover from homelessness for the rest of my life... even if I'm fortunate enough to make good money, have a home of my own, and find "success". I spent many days and nights in Santa Monica, and on Venice Beach. I sat right where this man is sitting many times. The only thing the police care about is if you're alive or dead because they don't want to deal with any dead bodies. Other than that. They don't care. And of course all the people walking by, enjoying their day, living a life... don't even see you. Please, please, please do not judge this man. It doesn't matter if a homeless person is a drug addict, mentally ill, an alcoholic, or not. They didn't start out in life thinking they wanted to be any of those things, just like nobody wants to get cancer. So please think before you judge or comment about the homeless. I beg you. God bless us all.

That said, I spend almost every waking moment working to help homeless people. Tens of thousands of homeless people have been helped directly and indirectly because of our work. I am unemployed without income. I make zero money off of this channel. As cool as you may think that is, me not being able to work full time on this limits our ability to help more people.

I work where I come in contact with a lot of homeless people. This gentleman seems out if the ordinary to me because he doesn't have a huge sense of entitlement or a defiant attitude, which is pretty common with the homeless I see. It is true that just about anyone can become homeless, but I think what we have to pay attention to, in order to help some of these people, is that they just can't live with others amicably. Otherwise, I think they would find people who help them by offering them a spare room. When some finally understand that they need to be respectful of others and live by others rules if they are in their home, voila, a room or space appears. Just my opinion.

When I read psychology type books they tell you that you have to love yourself first, and let people solve their own problems. It seems that if you try to help people, solve their problems for them, that somehow you are enabling them. Often you get walked all over for your efforts. Christ said to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. He said blessed are you when men despitefully use you for His name's sake. Sometimes it seems like holiness and the real world are miles apart.

He can go to Salvation Army & get his name on the list for a bed. There's a waiting list but it's first come first serve if you're not there when they call your name, so the list moves pretty fast. The disability is always vague because it's typically just general depression and lack of motivation. I mean, c'mon, the guy is 61, of course he probably has some problems. That's called aging and he isn't special in that regard. I just posted a comment about a lawyer I know who's a paraplegic with Parkinson's--he conducts depositions, attends court, and everything any other lawyer would do. He's more disabled than 90% of people on disability. Most people on disability are physically able-bodied, they're just lazy and/or depressed with no motivation, and they just get worse on disability.

Well, having been in the Great Plains and being from Santa Monica, I think he made a good move to get away from the bitter cold in Montana. It used to be so cold in So. Dakota that the frost would pull out the nails in your walls with a bang sound. There are southern states where cost of living is cheaper. So LA is actually just a stop on the way to living warmer. You feel the cold a lot more when you get older, so that's why snowbirds (elderly) move to Florida, etc.
