Thank you so much for this, I am currently in the process of ordering a M2M with Gibson and they have been terrible with communication and refusing to quote lead times, I certainly won’t be ordering one following this video and will look to do the same, Martin or maybe Dowinia! Again thank you for posting this video, saving me a lot of stress!

Hi, sounds lovely. May I ask how much you had to pay for the whole process? Thanks!

@@danyjr this was quoted at a little over 7K. However, obviously they did not get it correct so it was returned to them. And currently, I believe they have shut down their made to measure acoustic offering at the moment.

@@acousticmusicnthings Wow, that is pretty expensive considering the lack of attention to details. The guitar sounds excellent right out of the box but such a shame they didn't get it correct. Gibson's QC has been quite poor for as long as remember especially considering the prices they charge the customer. My experience with big companies (guitar related or otherwise) has been usually like this, you're just a small number in their accounting database. A smaller workshop or a one-man luthier usually develops a personal connection with the end user.

Very nice tone. Isn’t that what matters? You play it well too.

A decent luthier could slim down the neck for you. Might not be super expensive, and you could get a discount from Gibson. If you love the sound of this one, i would go for that option. Just my C2, of course. :)

Send it back. I know you said that you were going to get a Martin, but you may want to get together with a luthier, who can build what you want, and work directly with them.

Already did. I did pick up a Martin and I’m waiting to hear back from Gibson on a time line for a rebuild.

Get a Martin OMJM (I think they have the 11/16 neck).

It does sound very good, but you could never be happy with it. Try a Martin M-36 (0000) or the jumbo, wide body J-36?(I think). Call Maury at Maury's music center. He is/was a Martin dealer and is selling out. I don't know what he has left, but ask for a deal.

Nothing new - back in 93 I ordered a custom shop acoustic. When I got it it was great (buiilt by Ren Fergusson) but the neck truss rod adjustment packed up in 6 months. Gibson simply did not want to know about the problem - it was either 'send it back or take it to a reparier' - in another country. The idiots could not even figure out what country I was in!!!! In the end a local greybeard luthier fixed it for $90 and I swore I'd never buy another new Gibson to add to the 20+ I already have (all previously bought used). Their loss.

Just off the start, when I hear "made to measure" I'm thinking this is going to be some major nit picking, but will sit through this and edit this comment at the end...okay, I've watched it and the nut width is the only thing that I would side with you on. In that case you gave them a specific number. As for the neck profile, you can't just say make it like this guitar, or that guitar...too vague. You should have found a guitar with a neck you like, and got some callipers and taken specific measurements. "Figured ebony"??? I suspect the only way you would have been happy is if you were actually at the shop overseeing it as it was being built.

He is a customer spending thousands of dollars. They should have taken more care and attention on to his order.

@@randykirby2866 It depends. Before I can take sides I would have to see the actual text/email with his instructions that Gibson based their work on. The only major problem that isn't open to interpretation is the nut width seeing as he gave them an actual specification. That alone is enough for them to take the guitar back. I get the sense that he would not have been happy with anything they sent him

Ugh, this is awful! I need a narrow neck as well, this would be my nightmare and completely unacceptable! It sure does sound beautiful, what shame. For the record Martin necks are impossible for me but I have managed to find a custom shop J185 that has a great neck as well that sounds wonderful, and an l4a model that isnt the best sounding but the neck is great for me. My 2012 J200 neck is a little big for me but I deal with it lol (an aside: I have 2 Westerly Guilds vintage 1989-90 that have VERY small necks and I just came across a Westerly Jumbo with a great neck as well

Why would you buy a Gibson when Martin is the supreme of guitars. Get a D28 or HD 28 etc.
