This was a helpful review. My own take of what's missing in the debate is the relevance of the natural law. The NL allows us to be Christian in government without the government directing or even imposing Christianity.

​@@RevReads Thanks. It's just on my mind because of my wife's studies in constitutional law. She works at a firm that deals with the intersection of faith and law daily, given that they are dedicated to first amendment and religious freedom issues. She's been trained in a natural law approach, which I've encouraged due to my own work in healthcare. But take the natural law away and you're left with the idea that humans just can't be good without God. Atheism, or really any form of non-Christian religious belief, entails immorality and injustice. Our Calvinist friends especially like that line of thought given their understanding of total depravity. But then you can't possibly have any sort of justice in government without it being grounded in a religious argument, which naturally gives way to the political Christian nationalism you describe and sows the seeds for the religious Christian nationalism we're seeing more and more of.

As far as the religious side, can a nation really exist without any spiritual authority? Doesn’t scripture say that man can serve God or money? Is “no master” ever mentioned as an option anywhere in the Bible? Everywhere in the Bible, God demonstrated his authority through real power on earth. Some people can find faith from smaller signs in their own life, but I believe that most people take the world at face value. They can see what money rules every aspect of our lives, and place their faith accordingly. But as far as what you said about a ‘prince’, couldn’t it be an assembly of priests, or something like that?

I think Christian nationalism is very unbiblical and it's very concerning and very alarming when you think about this is not what God wants
