Disassembling and reassembling a Shimano Ultegra 6800 shifter - a guide

Video shows steps in disassembling and reassembling a Shimano Ultegra 6800 shifter.
The video doesn't extend to disassembling the shifter 'core' assembly of pawls, cogs, springs and levers. I might make an attempt at that later. But if this or any shifter items have failed, this video shows how to separate the major parts.

My shifter started to miss shifts when going to a smaller gear. By checking it visually I could see that some slop had developed in the shifting mechanism (right hand brake lever assy.). I was able to purchase the R.H. Bracket (Shimano # Y00E98060) which includes a new shifting mechanism. Your video was extremely helpful when I had to swap over the new parts; especially regarding the removal of the circlip holding the shift lever assembly pivot shaft. What a pain in the butt...but your video helped me stay the course. Thank you.

Thanks, I managed to jam my gear cable cause I was installing them late at night and didn't line them up properly. Tried various methods to get it out but pulling the shifter apart was the only way. I managed to do it with minimal tools and a lot of swearing :-)

Hi mate, I have a ST-6800 RH shifter with snapped housing. Do you know if it’s possible to switch the mechanism with the 6700 RH shifter?

no sorry they're completely different. the 6800 housing breaks too easily. Shimano did a poor job with that. you can't fix it (to knowledge).

If you mean to take the 6800 lever blade and install it into a 5800 shifter, it might work. They are a similar design. I'm not 100% sure though. You'd have to try and see.
