I've got a 17 plate and a 14 plate, no issues with ghost and cruise control works as it should, both have adaptive cruise. However, when we first got them, on the 14 plate, the ghost was fitted to stop the starter motor cranking, if the code wasn't put in correctly or fast enough it would cause exactly your issues with the gearbox fault, vehicle in limp mode and every traction warning light. We had it changed to gearbox lock and the firmware on the device 'downgraded' to an older version, now when gear is selected the engine cuts out, and since then its been spot on. I would say this is what needs doing to yours. 17 plate is starter locked, 14 plate is gearbox locked. Hope this helps as we love ours.

Don’t sweat it, Jamie. As you’ve said, it’s an old, higher mileage, much depreciated luxury vehicle. I’ve had lots of Range Rovers and whereas faults like this can take a fair bit of head scratching to resolve, there is always a solution and it’s not always as bad as you might think. I’ve just resolved a gearbox fault on my latest Range Rover purchase so I feel your pain, but in my opinion they are absolutely worth the graft to keep them on the road! Best of luck 👍

You are finding out why the previous owner sold it. However, once you have sorted these teething problems, you will have a good vehicle. However, with over 100,000 miles there will be regular maintenance issues but hopefully nothing serious. I’ve just bought a used one myself, a three year old high spec Autobiography 3.0 Ingenium diesel with 51,000 miles on the clock. I’ve taken the LR Approved year’s warranty plus bought an extra two years unlimited mileage on top. No faults found so far but it was missing the spare wheel and toolkit and the remote for the Webasto heater. I’ve added a wireless CarPlay dongle and today I’ll be fitting a MagSafe iPhone charger/holder. In the medium term it will have a dash and rear camera fitted as well. I do intend to keep this as long as possible and paid cash for it. I bought this with my eyes open and it is my fourth Range Rover, all the previous three bought new. There’s been a gap of nineteen years since my last one, a L322 which was great but kept for only three years. The one before that was a diesel Vogue and I took that round the clock with the only issues being in the first year and 15,000 miles. The one before that was a 1986 V8 injected and although I did 60,000 miles in it, the thing was rather noisy in the transfer case and it didn’t like starting in damp weather, suffering from condensation in the distributor cap. That broke down one when the safety start inhibitor switch on the auto box failed. Sorted that myself with a new part.

1. Disconnect battery; hard reset. Maybe the battery is on its way out; this tends to create Christmas-tree lights/faults. Get a new AGM Battery fitted. 2. Limp home mode: open the bonnet. On the driver‘s side of the bonnet, there is a small air intake, which connects to the corresponding intake on the right upper inner side of the fender. Sometimes, an accoustic (black )inhibitor „pillow“ will shift from the inner middle section of the driver‘s side bonnet and block off this intake. Simply shift this „pillow“ (for lack of a better word) back towards the inner middle section of the driver‘s side bonnet. 3. Always have an OBD2 adapter (e.g. Carly) in the car, so as to clear & read faults independently and get you out of a pinch. Hope this helps. I had to learn this the hard way with mine (Not Overfinch, but V8 Diesel Autobiography)

If you want a strangers advice..get rid of it as fast as possible. Overfinch or not. These are a troublesome and expensive machine once past a certain period. Best thing to do with a ghost when suspecting car related issues. Pop it into service mode and start the car 5 times to clear the memory , then use the car in service mode to see if the faults reoccur ( I’m an approved installer and this is what Autowatch will tell you to do ) , enter your disarm code then press cruise cancel 5 times to pop in service mode and temporarily disable the ghost As for your faults , In the front wheel arches there is an earth stud in the rear portion behind the liner. These are gearbox and ABS module ground points. Very common for failing. They look okay on inspection but when you try to remove the 10mm nut the stud snaps off , I’d look here first .

I had gearbox problems from about 75000 which is disappointing as I thought ZF gearboxes were more reliable. This is strange but if all of your warning info comes on with messages of doom but the car still drives it's more than likely the brake warning light switch mounted under the brake pedal. I changed mine and the warning messages stopped. But in all honesty reject the car and buy something more reliable to avoid constant problems.
@EGDYT222 күн бұрын
Try a new battery, honestly even .1 of a volt drop and everything goes wrong. Also the immobilizer shouldn't cause the CC or gearbox to stop working, only warning light I've ever had from mine is it recons the key fob battery is low when it's not.

I wouldn't stress too much. These gearboxes are meant to be super reliable. I reckon get it code checked and if it's nothing major, give the gearbox some fresh oil as future preventive maintenance. I feel like, gearbox oil/service is never on anybody's "to-do" list with older cars. CVT's suffer and die mainly because of that.

@@chrismcgowan5180 8hp gearboxes outlast most the the vehicles they're fitted to. Well known for this. FCP Euro: "As said above, the ZF 8-speed is an incredibly reliable transmission. In its nearly ten years of use, internal faults have been scarce, many of which have been user-related. If there is anything to look out for, it’s the occasional fluid leak. The two points of concern for leakage are the oil cooler connections and the Mechatronic sleeve. "

As you must know now, dealerships will not spend money on a car which will until sold..just sit there. They have cleared the code and hoped for the best until it comes back to them for repair, that’s just industry standard and why the previous owner probably got rid of it in the first place. Your in good spot for this to happen being so close after sale and also having extended warranty on it. I say a good spot.. I say this lightly with a slightly confused face 😂😂

Gearbox fault along with all them other warnings is more than likely the earth points behind front wheel arches, common fault as they corrode. Also not great for alot of short journeys they suffer bad with oil dilution with failed regens. Regular oil changes cheaper than a engine. Jamie why do you think people trade cars in? Because they're perfect and have no issues? 😉 you are right to constantly discuss the purchase price many many many many years ago as you're gonna quickly realise your warranty will be worthless and you'll have to pay to maintain a 145k car. Hopefully a quick easy fix like a wheel sensor issue but... it's a very complex car with thousands of heavily used parts. Be prepared for stuff to fail.

Rip the engine and gearbox out of it and stick in a BMW engine and box out of a 330D. Yeah you might forfeit some stuff but it won't be going to the Sahara or Australian outback anytime soon. It will still look the part and the best bit. It will run and perform well and not have a recovery vehicle following you about it? These things are utter crap. Someone I know bought a new full fat range rover. The insurance company who he's insured the others with. Wouldn't insure it because it was brand new? Ringing round for that. Within a week it was relayed back to dealership with ecu fault and not starting. Not even 2 weeks after that. Another relay. Another fault this time fueling issues and limp mode. Cost over a 100k this piece of over rated shit and he hasn't even done 200 miles? Finally got it delivered back to his house. Drove it for a couple of days constantly thinking will it breakdown again?? Started to rain and wipers packed up
