50% failure rate of the 3 litre V6 on my street. One neighbour with a 2013 Disco 4 and nearly 200k miles with no issues. The other with a 2016 Range Rover Sport with 50-odd-k under the wheels snapped its crank reversing out of the MOT workshop. Both FSH, neither used for towing. I'd love a Disco 4 but too much of a lottery for me.

So one failure in your street then. You need more than a sample of two, mate.

@@graemejones9707 The Range Rover may be the go-to choice for the rich and famous, but it's also competent when the going gets tough. The Toyota Land Cruiser on the other hand has a long-standing reputation for bulletproof reliability and unstoppable off-road ability. I know which I would choose.

Great video! I'm looking at Range Rover TD6 or a Discovery TD6 but people here in the US say to steer clear of the Diesel engine and in particular DEF and injector issues. You seem to like them? Would you say a TD6 or V6SC petrol is the best engine?

That engine is used in so many other vehicles, including commercial... the crank is too short , its so the engine will fit in many different types of vehicle, but you are completely correct... how many fail... my specialist JLR garage says he has more issues with the 4.4, which will get worse as the engine is NO longer produced.
@MrKnucklez10002 ай бұрын
If you find a well serviced car at a smaller interval around 6-8k then crankshaft failures are less likely. Also for diesles better to check oil levels regularly and top up if and when needed.

DPF go to a specialist and get them to straight pipe the DPF and that will pass the MOT

I have an ISUZU TROOPER 3.1 TD CITATION MODEL and is 28 years old and never never ever broken down. 140,000 miles on the clock. If only I could find a reliable Range Rover to purchase, will buy it in a heartbeat. Too many expensive faults. The security system is a scam. I blame the manufacturers for poor security of such expensive vehicles. Won’t be touching one anytime soon.

Have owned my L405 3 litre Diesel 2013 for 8 years now up to 131000 KM. Serviced every 10000KM, cam belt. gearbox oil changed around 100000KM. Brakes changed too. My issue has been tailgate operation. Top door will not close pushing buttons, if left for system to shut down, the top door will close using hand remote. Had modules and struts replaced still not solved. Now cable to lower tailgate broken. Here in NZ no parts located from Liverpool Uk, Left hand, still waiting right hand so as to replace both same time.

The crank thing seems to be worst on the Disco 3/4 for some reason. Maybe weight maybe loads. But it seems excessive and don’t like JLR attitude on not acknowledging this issue and never really coming up with improvement parts so you can’t even fully rectify the issue.

My Dad 80 Yr old drove his like a baby 60k FMDSH sudden crank shaft failure. While in one LR dealer two in the workshop for the same!! chatted to a guy waiting in reception his 20 plate defender engine failure. Went to another dealer a traveller was shouting and balling outside about his RR engine failure. So be clear on a trip to 2 dealers in a short space of time Total 5 Complete engine failures, hardly rare??

I could regale you with disaster stories, from Defender 110 to Autobiography, but my advice remains … don't … just don't! Please don't believe these liars in the comment section who claim they haven't had a problem. My brother bought a Porsche. Blown engine, bits of the car literally falling off, and by the time he sold it, it was with less the Usain Bolt's used socks. Yet my brother will look you dead in the eye and tell you it's reliable! Don't trust fanboys, LR/RR are utter garbage ... !

Like the drama that happened on the reality show Singles in Hell
