The same happened for me. The last chick died last night :( The father was gone before hatching, so the mother did not manage to feed all 8 of them.

must be the temperature, or maybe the rain made gathering enough food too difficult

Yeah probably... The Springwstch guys said the heavy rain may have washed all the catarpillars off the trees!
