It just did 3/4 of a ridiculously tough track with its almost 30 year old transfer. Bloody hats off to the old girl. I think Nissan and Toyota owners have plenty of respect for one another.

It's good to see the Tasmanian way hasn't changed - I grew up in Tassie, and back in the late 60's early 70's when we had our old bomb Holdens and no money we chipped in and fixed broken stuff overnight. I remember pulling the engine out on Friday after work, doing rings and bearings (FC with 149) and driving to sport on Saturday morning. Never had a problem getting help from mates, neighbours, strangers.

I have to say, you have to try really hard to break a GQ gearbox. A bloke I knew worked at a wrecking yard & was promised a bonus if he could sell 3 GQ gearboxes in a month he would get a bonus. It wasn't until the last day of the month he was able to sell the 3rd box & that only because a Cockie replaced his box after a rebuild of the vehicle & forgot to put oil in it. Thos tthings are super strong!

I love seeing breakdowns, yeah weird but it's important to know how vehicles work and break downs pinpoint where problems are. The fact that guys like Tim that know how to fix stuff is so vital if you want to keep doing tough tracks. Everyone needs a Tim on your trip! I watch lots of these sorts if vids and the thought runs through my head just how much collective knowledge all of you have. You all must have heaps to talk about when you come across other like minded guys. Knowledge is power and so great to witness and see in action. G,day Tyler Tim and Young fella , hope you got the Q out to have it sorted out , these situations make my guts churn with worry lucky for you and son that Tim was there with you and the fact he was able to climb back out to the road dragging you behind was a blessing, so far from home thank God for Tim on this mission, Nissan or Toyota Ford what ever they all can break its called adding heaps of power and the rest remains built for factory horse power and was built to last , my idea is build up engine you must build up what ever it send it's power through , and I always know Nissan gearbox to be stronger than the landcruiser as with diffs too

Mate if it had been a blown engine then you can be upset only a transfer case is the issue, no doubt you'll the bous look over the truck when you get home, it just goes to show how you've put the truck together it's certainly a tuff truck and very reliable for an ole you should be proud of this and GQ, yeah sure the Nav was new and you had learnt alot but these wagons are the way to go well done 👏

do nissans have the toyota problem where the g/box oil drains into the transfer, but no one worries about it..then the box blows..

Glad you got it back on the road. Get that oil out of the box & transfer though. The GQ box & transfer require a GL4 oil but the oil you used is a GL5 oil. That will cause the soft metal components to wear very fast. Penrite do a full synthetic GL4 oil specifically for the Patrol box & transfer. If that GL5 rubbish is what your mechanic recommended, he should have known better.

As for his mechanic, I hope that's not the oil he recommended because if it is, then he does not know his stuff. Given the transfer failing after he put reduction gears in, I'll reserve my judgement on him.
