Ground-handling is really important, sometimes its boring to ground handle but you'll feel so much more confident in your take-offs and landings, and even when you're flying you'll feel your wing more and understand what it's doing. A top grade pilot is a pilot that can fly well and take-off and land smoothly even in rough conditions(and also understands when it's not worth it).

That's true and one of the reasons why I prefer being under a wing with some structure rather than a mattress. :). Cheers, Phil.

This is the flying school :). Have seen a lot of them last year. Mostly from Hungary and Czech republic. This is my home take off - Kobala, Slovenia.

Holy crap, not many of them check the gilder before they launch. Get the gilder under control before turning around and running is what i'd do. but again it looks like the conditions are a bit too much for a nice trip that day

Great video. Looks very thermic. The groung handling by all pilots was very poor but very entertaining to watch.
@SiemaZiomek13 жыл бұрын
If I see that happening @ launch I know its time for a beer, not so much for flying.
@barneygumble12316 жыл бұрын
Ich denke weniger, dass die Flugbedingungen so heftig sind, sondern eher, dass die gezeigten Piloten zumindest ausgesprochen schlechte Starter sind.
@MrMikedykes7 жыл бұрын
Nice looking launch site! Looks like a very thermic day, might of been a light wind day, with the only chance of getting off the hill, was to launch when a thermal comes through.
@sevenrats9 жыл бұрын
It looks much to turbulent to be any fun. Some activities require the knowledge to identify unsafe conditions and the wisdom to postpone to another day. Motorcycling, surfing, and flying are good examples.
@BC-mr2yq9 жыл бұрын
I don't agree that it was too turbulent, just strong cycles on launch. Looked like the air was pretty good if you look at the paragliders in the background. I will say the the cycles up on launch were kinda rowdy, and it takes skill and experience to launch in those conditions. Many of the pilots in the video don't even give their gliders a chance to stabilize before running. Kite Kite and Kite some more before attempting to launch in similar conditions ;)

It seems like wind is shifting every 2 seconds...
@Gazsoka6612 жыл бұрын
its a huge thermal on the left side of startplace. Can be seen at 1:37 that the closer paraglider lifts off by appr. 5-6 m/s, and the other next to him in 20 meters flyes at level. That causes turbulance at the startplace. It is obvious, but telling the truth some of guys could not learn the proper starting technic...

Forward launches in that much wind, not controlling the wing before turning around.... face palm
@paraglide0116 жыл бұрын
I think this must be the costalunga in Bassano, we were not allowed to fly there after 12 oclock due to the heavy thermals. And now I understand why, these guys are probably polish , saw them there do al kind of stuff.

I proper shit myself getting on an airliner, I have to take at least 4 tranquilisers before I boared a plane but I tried PG tandem, when I was on my jollies in Turkey and I have to tell you it didn't scare me one bit yet statiscally it is about 100 times more dangerous than flying in a jet. It is sensational and I keep promising myself I will take up this hobby one day but I hope I don't become as complaicent as these guys. I will have to dig out my DVD of my experience and upload it.

The song artist is Fatboy Slim, the title is something Brimful of Asha... Nice video, just the pilots are without experience... they should not fly in these conditions.

come on you guys, this is Slovenia! These people have to put rocks on their roof tiles to keep them from blowing away. Perfect wind conditions for Slovenians!
@yoshyoka13 жыл бұрын
Conditions are not to strong at all (they all have nice foward speeds once airborne), they simply have no control on their wings. almost all did the same mistakes: did not move toward the wing and did not brake it enough. The guy at 1.22 appearently never heard about reverse launching :D
@petethewrist11 жыл бұрын
I first got on an air liner about nine years ago. I stated flying hang glider in 1976 and still do but as I got on that plan I was terified. It was not the flying but the thought that if anything went wrong I would not be in charge and I hate that feeling. I am also happyer on planes when they are in turbulance as then like gliding I can tell the wings are doing their job. these days i sit praying the driver will flake out so I can have ago,,, Like in some films the real thing not a sim' Pete

Amazing that there was not a serious accident more by luck than good judgement I would guess as one other person said a very good reason to fly hang gliders

Watch it while listening this: "Brimful of Asha by Cornershop -(Fatboy Slim remix version)" (the original sound) To watch it this way, it's a full another feeling... Like the wind dances with the gliders, and the pilots are just jerked by the lines... :D

Guys, find some good instructor, and practice groundhandling alot... This is very dangerous what you are doing.. blue sky
@ParaglidingManiac16 жыл бұрын
Can't say anything about that. Didn't see how did they and ,,normal,, people take off :)
@NilfNilf197216 жыл бұрын
Assume you DID take off, against all rationality, and you are up 200ft in the air and you notice the wind speed is the trim speed... WHAT DO YOU DO? Big ears to get down? Speed bar to get foreward? Keep trim to get up, hoping the air would be slower farther upwards? I wouldn't know what I'd do.

These guys should be ridge soaring on the coast, not mountain thermaling in heavy winds! The person at 1:23 obviously has no idea how to handle a wing. It would be funny if it weren't so life-threatening.

@maxglide12 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately seen way too much in the paragliding world. Really poor launch technique. Winds were strong but do not seem violent. The paraglider is the only aircraft that allows repeated crappy launches without significant consequence. Any sack of meat persistent and lucky enough will eventually get in the air......
@littleripper3129 жыл бұрын
omg, these inexperienced people should be flying in perfect conditions only. This is very foolish and it's how new people end up getting hurt. This is good weather just not for someone so new.

Some scary looking launches. They need a hell of alot more ground practice in strong winds. Thats how I learned and am a much better pilot for it.
@jolllyroger37289 жыл бұрын
so what is the deal on these para gliders I see so many crashes and collapses of the wing..... what would happen to these people if the went neutral on the control input or is there a neutral..... what i mean is in an airplane glider or hang glider if you let go of the stick or in HG crossbar (of course in HG you dont let go but you relax all piolt induced forces ) then your in neutral trim where the airplane fly's it'self..... is there a trim on these para-gliders or a neutral situation I thought of getting one but i see so many crashes and collapses that i think i'll stick to a fixed solid wing
@airex889 жыл бұрын
paragliders also have trim speed, releasing brakes puts you into it, from most collapses beginner wings recover themselves - no input needed still, if you want to get into pg i recommend proper training school
@benjaminseeberger51009 жыл бұрын
In turbulent air you need to fly active, you have to work with your brakes to avoid a collaps. If you take a Wing which is geting collapses fast you have to be better in active flying but some people arent.
