Tragic but true! Haha! You are too funny, Patrick. I want to thank you, Patrick, for bringing a smile to my face tonight. My mother had a Pfaff and loved it. When we moved to Germany in 1959, she swore to herself that she was going to come home with a Pfaff, something she wanted all her life. (Along with a large collection of Hummels, most of which I still have.) She had a custom table built for it and she taught me a thing or two about sewing, something she did all the time, sewing many of her clothes. I probably knew Pfaff before I had ever heard of Singer! Her 100th birthday passed last week but, unfortunately, I lost her three years ago. I wish I knew what happened to that wonderful machine. Thank you, Patrick, for the warm memory you gave me. And, after the week you and Stuart have had, I hope you have that bar restocked by next weeks vlog! Tschuss! A bientot!

Ahh guys so sorry to hear about the roof, I really hope you both can get a roofer to help repair it soon. In the end Patrick it is true, they are only things. However your plan is restoration and preservation. Please someone help those lovely new comers to France. On the upside, you did manage to get some lovely copper and I look forward to seeing delicious recipes in those dessert pans. Maybe we can get to meet your mom's cousin. Extra help is much appreciated I am sure. The world is crazy lately. Heat everywhere except Newfoundland. There are fires in Spain, China is in heat alert and the Lavoire(?spelling) River is drying up to name a few disasters but like both of you I count my blessings here in Surrey. Our clothes drying is on the brink and I told my husband Pat. His reply was buy a clothesline. I am not allowed to tell you on here what I said back to him but just use you imagination. Between us though I think I will get a new dryer if it can't be repaired but I will also get a clothesline and make Pat carry the clothes basket in and out. LOL! Nothing against clotheslines but I grew up in Labrador and it was not an easy feat when the washer was in the basement and the clothesline stand also had stairs. Oh my poor mother! May she RIP. She never complained but I do for her still. LOL. I laughed so much with you two today. Wish I could be there to help. God knows I hung a lot of wallpaper and took it down and put on more in the summers in the 80's! When you were talking about your grand mother's chair a song came to mind. ROCKING CHAIR, ROCKING BABY etc. Cute story though. Keep the vlogs a coming! Sounds like your getting over that summer flu. Cheers and best wishes.

So sorry about the fruit tree though I’ve no idea what that is. Perhaps a net on a portion of the tree to keep the critters out. Also I’m sad with you on the roof. If you’re not afraid to get up there perhaps a tarpaulin much larger than the hole . Since there are is no wood to secure it do you could do what I saw in the movie the secret of roan nish (sp?). After grass was layered on the roof they took ropes , the cuttings of the rope pieces need to be the length of both sides of the roof and down the walls, then tie heavy stones at each end. Depending on how many you do I think it would get you through some rains. The sewing machine-we have a Singer and. Other machine which I forget how to spell it (comes with old age!!!) anyway the P is silent. Good on you for sewing for the first time. If Stephanie can do it I know you can. She did use a lot of helps from the sewing store in order to get the pleats straight and lovely looking. There are patterns also at the sewing center for any cornice or swags. Etc. best of luck!

Hello darling Tammy. It was very frustrating! But some wonderful things came out of it for us. Next weeks vlog! I will start to make blackberry jelly. Those we have tons of. I’ll try one with grated ginger in it. The curtains are so pretty and it came back to me! Yay. Huge hugs and much love from us at Colombe. 🥰😘🥰

The gite is progressing and the roof issue will require a tarp to prevent further moister damage. Good to see the van being used after a minor delay. Too bad about the fruit, but circumstances dictated the outcome this season. The bread oven is a wonderful historical find and it can also be used as a pizza oven. You have great attitudes, as we have to accept unexpected occurrences and move forward. Take care, Ralph Rocchiccioli

You looked like a couple of thieves stealing from a chateau to take to your more humble abode, LOL! (Especially viewing it in time-lapse!) Did you have to move that couch/chaise in through the window?!! You're getting so much done, so I hope you are okay with knowing it's a long-term project - it's going to be so special! Love the bread oven find. Maybe you should invest in a cherry-picker so you can repair the roof yourselves (may be worth having for any future (hopefully minor) repairs, and may pay for itself if roofers are pricey like they are in North America! Keep your sense of humour!

You are a joy! Hugs from Ginny in Georgia. P.S. We hang old CD’s from strings in our fig tree (and around our vegetable garden) and when they twirl and catch the light, it scares the birds away. Have you heard about cleaning copper with ketchup? Copper reacts to air by developing a layer of copper oxide, which causes it to look tarnished. Copper oxide dissolves in a mixture of weak acid and table salt, both of which are found in ketchup. Slather the ketchup onto your copper-bottomed pots and leave it on for as long as you can. Then wipe and rinse. (By the way, you get the same result with lemon juice plus salt. Great finds but sorry to hear about the roof.
