Found a River on a course recently and gave it a couple throws before returning it to the owner and was blown away! I have wanted to pick some up and to test and see if they make it in my bag. Great comparison/review, you got a subscribe from me!

One of the better disc comparison videos I’ve seen. Logically and cogently presented with good audio and clear disc flights. Well done. I have a Prime Maverick which Ive thrown for a year but which has become too flippy so I just bought a Lucid Maverick yesterday to get back to the flip to flat/straight flight that is so useful. It’s a great woods disc.

Thanks Mark! I would suggest the best woods driver!
@eristicfreethinker20982 жыл бұрын
I did the exact same thing hoping the Lucid Maverick would not become too flippy too fast. Unfortunately the Lucid Maverick became too flippy very quickly. Thrown on hyzer, it flips to flat and just keeps on flipping and moving hard right. Wish there was a Maverick that held its initial stability longer. Good luck with yours.

I'm really impressed with how far you get these discs! I've only been playing for a year so I still have a lot to learn. Whenever I really crank on the River it turns and burns on me. I'm only getting around 200-250ft. I also bag a prime and lucid maverick. Great disc and seems more stable in flight despite having a higher turn number.
@BeaverBranch3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure how you are releasing the disc, but I’m throwing these discs with a hyzer release and standing or flipping them up. If I bring my arm up, they would flip turn and burn for sure. I’ve really been focused on ‘learning how to throw something understable’ ever since Simon mentioned it in his Vlog as a “pro tip!” So I’ve been focusing on throwing hyzer release and finessing understable discs and getting the most out of them. Good stuff for woods courses where accuracy counts. (The harder I throw the more accuracy I lose).

Great video review. I love the Maverick. It turns over for me a lot on a flat release, but great for hyzer flips. Mine doesn’t fade as much anymore like it did out of the box. Just picked up the River Opto, this video gives a great demonstration.

I bought a river about 3 weeks ago, I now have 3 rivers in the mail, here on Wednesday.( They're retro misprints. 11$) I love these discs they feel almost fairway driver on the grip and float like mako3 it's amazing, can't praise them enough.

@someguydan Жыл бұрын
@@ryanmussell739 yeah, the retros I had broke in really quick so I had to go with opto plastic and beef up the weight. My armspeed got much better by the end of the year so I could throw it hyzer and still get long lazy flex lines out of it. Just sometimes it wouldn't turn and just keep fading. Might need to get a gold ice version my opto might become a calm day roller. 😉

Wish more people did comparison reviews like this. Nice vid. What's funny is like many of us, you can throw a bunch of different molds and in the end they all are about the same. I love my River but tough to predict on a windy day. Great hyzer flip disc though.
@BeaverBranch3 жыл бұрын
I would agree that the River is less dependable! Great tail wind disc. I’m using these Opto Rivers for easy to throw up shots almost where one might use a midrange. Maverick is disc can’t got without. Tested to see if the River could be a longer Maverick, but not as dependable.

Same. My river hyzer flips, glides for days and has an almost buzzz like finish where it just dead drops. I love it.. But I think my burst is starting to get beat to death because it's quickly becoming a turnover disc 😑 Just traded a dx Dart for the opto version though 😂

Have you tried the Latitude 64 Saint? It has similar numbers to the River but it's speed 9. Just bought a Maverick. Hoping it will stop to rain so i can try it out.
@BeaverBranch3 жыл бұрын
I have not tried the Saint. Wonder how it would compare the Escape? I consider the Escape my “longer Maverick.” The Maverick needs a little fieldwork, but once you figure out the correct angles and snap, it’s a gem for straight shot and turnovers. It’s a speed 7, so doesn’t get huge distance, but very dependable flights. I hope it works out for you!
@sunesnigel3 жыл бұрын
@@BeaverBranch I don't know how they compare but it could be a good VS video. The numbers are very similar. I think speed 9 is around my armspeed limit ATM and I'm not really consistent so I'm not a great judge but I hope the Saint can push me over the 100 meter limit. Tried the maveric a little bit yeasterday and I liked it for both backhand and forehand. But as you say, I have to learn it.

@LooseDaddy - The Escape is another disc that gets “sneaky distance.” Some of the Latitude molds have not been readily available in the states - think a lot of the fairway drivers I would love to get are hard to get - Saint, Saint Pro, Maul to name a few!

Great comparison! I'm looking at both of these discs at the moment so perfect timing. What weight were these? Particularly in the Opto/Lucid options.
@BeaverBranch3 жыл бұрын
The Lucid/Opto versions are max weight 175-176’s. I like both discs. Maverick for straight to turnover shots and the River for straight to slight hyzer shot (will use it at time instead of midrange, easy to throw).
@niksproal3 жыл бұрын
Nice! Thanks for clarifying. I'm still a relative beginner and finding my way with disc selection. I've definitely learned the value of understable discs after spending time throwing a Discmania Genius as my first disc. Made a few bad buys after that (typical beginner going too fast and too heavy) and am now backtracking a little to lighter weights and more friendly discs. So much to learn! I'm in Australia so we don't get the full gamut of plastics - typically more premium than base in a lot of brands for some reason.
@BeaverBranch3 жыл бұрын
Disc speed is good to take into consideration and it seems like you are on the right track with the Maverick and River (speed 7’s). The River has more glide. I feel that the Maverick, once you figure it out, can be one of the most straight flyers. (It may not go far, but it’s controllable). It can also do very good turnover shots. Just have to figure out the angle control using fieldwork!
@sunesnigel3 жыл бұрын
Very good comparison! I got a option river but I'm a beginner so it mostly burns or fade or doesn't fade. Is the depth of the rim similar between the two discs?
@BeaverBranch3 жыл бұрын
The rim of both discs are similar. The River is has more dome and more glide. I use the River almost as an extension of my midrange. The Maverick I use for turnover and straight shots.
