Thank you for an awesome video! Blowing the black dye together was a totally new revelation for me. Gonna try that perhaps today. A lot of good tips on this video. I also liked that you mentioned not o drop any colour too near the black dye, to not overcome the black dye... How often do re-use the glue beds? Here in Finland it seems to be hard to come by huge bottles of (affordable) clear glue. I cringe at the thought of having to throw away the bed after one use.

I dont typically reuse the glue. But it is definitely doable. I knownanfew guys that do.

Quick question. Have u ever had the problem of your acetone dye mix drying out? Can u reuse it? I have some dried out here and just filled one of them with acetone again. The mix did take on the original color just wondering if that also is going to be true on a disc. Thanks in advance.

Yeah I have reused it when it dried up. I ended up making the switch to the hdpe bottles we now sell on discdyeing.com and haven't had that problem since.

I've been finding that a lot of my lighter colors (Caribbean, neon lemon zest, neon key lime, neon royal purple) hardly show up, if at all, even with a lot of dye put down. I was told heat would help but I haven't seen improved results with that either. I guess I just need some more dye powder in my mix! It's just weird because other dyes don't need nearly that much to look saturated.
@discdyeingdotcom2 жыл бұрын
Yes they will vary. However Caribbean, and royal purple do not work very well regardless. I get best results in floetrol bed with heat with those. But the lemon and lime should work, yeah try adding some more dyento your mix.
@shanesplanetshane3795 Жыл бұрын
the neons show up really well with heat mat and/or lamp. 6hrs with white premium plastics for me. Royal purple, neon cerise and lemon zest and carribean are a potent combo!
@nosleratz2 жыл бұрын
I see in you intro you have beds on shelf under heat lamps. I just acquired a lamp and was hoping to use it on glue beds as well as floetrol beds (it gets cold in my dye workshop). What temp and duration would you recommend for heating a disc in a glue bed? Thank you.
@jonahandbre2 жыл бұрын
Do you mix your dye with hot water first like the instructions say? I don’t and have been getting very poor saturation on lighter colors and neon colors. I have heard the hot water is important to activate the dye before mixing with acetone - don’t know if this is true. Thanks!
@discdyeingdotcom2 жыл бұрын
I have but I didn't see much difference to be honest. The lighter and neon colors can be tricky. You need plenty of dye and some of then really need heat
@shanesplanetshane3795 Жыл бұрын
prochem responded to me directly. The reason you use hot water is the additives they use for anti-static and anti-caking, ARE NOT solvent soluble. The dye itself doesnt care, but the additives don't break down in acetone across all colors. Hence the directions to use a tiny bit of water, mix, then add to acetone. Sometimes manufacturer instruction have a valid reason for them. Its science/chemistry... Heat mat at 90-100f and 6 hours does well for my premium plastics. Same with floetrol, tho you cant reuse the floetrol very well after about 24hrs on heat and 4 discs in same bed. Dont cover the discs, or condensation drops back into the trays and can cloud the edges.

Yep you can use Idye poly for sure, I just know the people at Prochem are phenomenal people and they have a huge variety of colors that we carry on the site.
@jonshobe97172 жыл бұрын
Also prochem is a better value vs Idye poly. You get twice as much powder with prochem vs I dye poly. I use both but will be switching to prochem more bc of the value aspect.
@benduimstra74372 жыл бұрын
Any chance you could disclose how you achieve the saturation you want in your dyes? Got my dyeing stuff today and after mixing up some acetone with plenty of Dye, my colors were much fainter than yours. Should I wait a few days to let it saturate more, add some heat to them, or get rid of them and try to add a small amount of hot water first before the acetone? Love the content and keep it up!
@discdyeingdotcom2 жыл бұрын
I'd have to know your process. Did you let it sit for 24hrs? I also flood my bed with color

Awesome tutorial! When you say warm room, what temperature do you reccomend? I’ve had my last few discs sit for 24 hours and come out with the colours really weak, I feel as if everything was too cold. Average ambient temp of the counter space I have to work on is between 13-16 Celsius. Thanks!
@discdyeingdotcom2 жыл бұрын
So really the warmer the better. But that's around 60 Fahrenheit so it really should be okay. A little warmer wouldn't hurt. You might need more dye in your mixture.
