Does it just paint the surface or does it penetrate the plastic? I want to dye some plastic skate boots (rollerblades)
@TheDifferenceisDoingIt3 жыл бұрын
These Poly dyes that Brian is using in the video, they are made to work with plastics. Some plastics work way better than other though, not 100% sure on the rollerblades. Worth a try though. Let us know us works out.

Will this work with white glue? What’s the difference between clear and white glue?
@TheDifferenceisDoingIt3 жыл бұрын
It's all just chemistry at the end of the day Justin. The dye react a bit differently with white glue than with clear glue making for different funky designs. As long as the dye (or dye mix) is in contact with the surface of the disc once you slap it in there, it should transfer give enough time.

WHAT IS THE ACETONE FOR?? DOES RIT DYE WORK WITH GLUE??
@TheDifferenceisDoingIt2 жыл бұрын
The acetone helps convert the powdered dye over to a liquid version that'll work in this kind of bed. I haven't played much with Rit in clear glue beds bud it works pretty well with white glue.
@jakeb99113 жыл бұрын
Sorry if this is obvious, but is it okay to wash the excess glue off in the sink? Wouldn't that clog the drains?
@TheDifferenceisDoingIt3 жыл бұрын
Everyone's plumbing situation is a little different, I'd hate to give bad advice there. That said I've been rinsing it down the utility sink in the basement with no problems. Safest move is probably just to let it dry and then throw it out.

Did Bryan say if he used Idye poly with acetone on clear glue? Or just Pro Chem. I wasn’t sure what dye he was using in this video. Thanks.

Mostly ProChem, little iDye here and there.
@Maxlance1013 жыл бұрын
This video is super helpful! I just bought the stuff to dye some discs. The drops of dye kind of just sank to the bottom of the glue bed, do you know why that would be?
@TheDifferenceisDoingIt3 жыл бұрын
Hey now Max! Tough to say exactly without knowing the type of glue and the dye (or dye/mix) you're using. In general though you want the viscosity or thickness of the medium you're using in the bed to be higher than that of the dye/mix that's going on top to keep it on the surface. Hope that helps bud, feel free to shoot us a DM over on FB or IG if you want to hash it out some more.

Love the videos! Please keep it up. Just curious, can you do an acetone mix with the worm dip or prochem? If so if there a ratio you could recommend? I apologize if you have already addressed this question. I'm doing water/idyepoly packets with good results but it doesn't get that oilslick effect on the glue bed. I'm wondering if that's what I'm doing wrong. Thank you again for this channel and all the information. Love the energy and positivity this channel brings.
@TheDifferenceisDoingIt4 жыл бұрын
Hey now Brian! Appreciate the kind words, happy to help where we can. You can indeed mix iDye and/or ProChem with acetone and use that. The ratios are an evolving beast, but I have them all list on the FAQs page of our website here if you want to check them out. www.thedifferenceisdoingit.com/faqs/

How much iDye and acetone? I’m not sure the ratio. Thanks!
@TheDifferenceisDoingIt3 жыл бұрын
It's kind of running formula that I'm always adding more acetone or dye to as I go. But it usually starts out as 1/4 tsp of iDye (or ProChem) to 2 oz of acetone.
@christophershoemaker88482 жыл бұрын
I'm so confused everyone talks about acetone eats plastic so don't use plastic. I'm good with that and it makes sense to me I store it all in glass, but it confuses me that the acetone I buy comes in a plastic container. Why does that plastic hold up to the acetone is it just a different type or something?
@TheDifferenceisDoingIt2 жыл бұрын
I can be a little confusing, but they make chem-safe plastic too. If you going to store acetone (or alcohol) mixes you want to make sure that's what it is, or glass like you said.

Wouldnt The magic eraser doesnt scuff up the plastic?
@bryaneckert30794 жыл бұрын
Not that I’ve noticed. Kastaplast is the biggest culprit with this silicone solution, and the finish/gloss on that plastic shows every little blemish and flaw. It feels like the same consistency and texture as the little makeup wedges that I use to wipe stamps. As far as I’ve been able to tell, that magic eraser doesn’t hurt the finish.

@TheDifferenceisDoingIt3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't think Rit is the right dye for this method. I've had much more luck using it on white glue and lotion. Worm Dip, Pro Chem, and/or iDye Poly are your best options with clear glue. Hope that helps bud.
