I know this video is a few years old now, but wow this is one of the best sidearm instructional videos I've ever seen. Thank you for the great content, can't wait to explore your other videos as well

Yes after watching a thousand videos finally came together when got elbow away from body a bit and arm pretty much straight at release. Lots of crossover to my golf swing but getting rid of pronating forearm was a bitch.

Love your drills. I actually learned this piece of knowledge playing a great sidearm player. He was about my size and I noticed how wide his arm was. I tried it and something clicked. Your previous drill of "dropping the hammer" helped me a lot as well. Can't wait to work on this one.

I noticed when my elbow is in front of the wrist, there is a cleaner and more accurate release. My tendency is to rush the throw and my hand gets ahead of the elbow and I turn the disc over. If I keep the arm moving with the body turn and don't throw the disc like a baseball, I seem to get a crisper release. It's hard to hold back and resist throwing the disc. Thanks for the lesson.

I've been trying to work on developing a forehand after being backhand only for years. This lines up with what I've noticed recently, which is that trying to turn my upper body away too far reduces accuracy. It never occurred to me that I'm rounding by doing that, and it creates just as much of a problem as rounding in backhand does. Thanks for this Ricky

Very helpful. I'd just started developing a forehand when I developed some soreness in my elbow that's dragged out... looking forward to trying out this drill as I get back into it.

Good stuff Richard! 2 points of contention/myths. 1. Landing Heel to Toe or Toe to Heel, I think this varies according to stride length and how open or closed you plant the front foot. Longer strides tend to land heel first and more open stance. At least this has been my experience and findings and I vary how I land on different shots but usually toe to heel. This is still debated in MLB pitching. I generally recommend to land toe to heel with shorter and closed stride/stance as you can brace your leg/knee better this way IMO engaging your foot/calf, while going heel to toe the knee typically goes into flexion and leaks forward more. 2. Rounding, just like BH you can't be rounding if the elbow is leading relative to the shoulders, so the shoulders can turn as far as you want, my shoulders turn back quite far from pitching and that is where I get a lot of my effortless distance IMO. I think the FH equivalent to rounding is the "inverted W" as it creates slack for the elbow to move or caught behind the shoulder like in BH.

Agreed on the stride length exaggerating this (no way of going toe first with a stride like Eagles!) , but I can't find any examples of anyone with momentum into the drive (ie not standing throw) who doesn't go heel/ toe to an extent. (I suspect this will be the difference between pitching and disc golf -pitching is a stride, disc golf allows more momentum in.) If I attempt toe heel after a hop I tip over the top and/or put tremendous strain on that left knee. I've looked at a lot of your sidearm form as I like the simplicity of it over the years and on all your hop ins you're also going heel/toe - eg - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqSuqaJ3eZljpJo

Maybe I shouldn't use the term Rounding - it's just what I've always called it :) I'm not arguing against shoulder turn here, and I'll stick a caption on to be clear on the later video to be clear on that, I'm trying to show that they should turn but not spin around. The drill is to force the body to open space to swing through under from the hips as opposed to keeping too straight bodied and swinging from the shoulder socket and around the body. Forcing a drive vs Swing/flap

this is great and i will definitely work on this drill. do you have any advice or drills for the flick/follow through?
@reedcole57803 жыл бұрын
take your putters and practice just flicking your wrist, the final part of the throw, focus on the release point and keeping your wrist from rotating, maybe you are only throwing 15 feet just try to get a clean release and put lots of spin on the disc

This drill is basically my forehand driving form. I realised my run-up was adding nothing but inconsistency so now I'm working on this one-step style until I'm confident hitting every angle. Then I'll add a run-up. Be great to see how you add a step or two to this drill to increase power

I can't throw a sidearm to save my life. Maybe this drill will help. I might be doing a sidearm rounding. Thanks.

Awesome. I always make fun of my buddy for t rexing lol. I have ok distance but my disc always wobbles not sure why.
@DiscGolfUKLtd4 жыл бұрын
I go into wobble causes in the troubleshooting section of this which I've not finished editing yet, there are a number of possible reasons, most common one is not having a clean consistent release - hammer/hit drill should help with that - kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4rOfaell91matE
