I'm not sure if this will get an answer, but if someone can help it'll be appreciated. I was helped greatly by the Holy spirit in February this year and will be taking the RCIA this year. I am fully devoted, and feel blessed. Now, I have always been drawn to artistic creativity like drawing and music, but also have been writing a Sci fi novel for the past few years. I am a little fearful of the book being a wrong move (in my mind) but I really feal drawn to finishing the story in my heart. It has certain allegorical elements to the Catholic and Abrahamic theology (without me even really knowing at the time). I suppose what I am asking is, should I stop due to being inconsiderate of God or could I be actually fulfilling God's wish for me by continuing? Or am I being completely egotistical in even considering that. Very confused 😕

🤯 being in a state of grace and patiently waiting… hm. Yes. There it is. How God reveals truth. I like how he talks about feeling the wood of the cross. That’s it. Raw truths are the only way I’ve ever come to know revelations. Never had a lovey dovey moment, other than witnessing the Sacraments, but I have experienced the Spirit working through me when I had no idea how to approach something-when you’re called regardless of your fear-to serve with compassion and it’s the last thing you want to do. That’s when you know you are only the instrument and all glory belongs to God.

I love this advice. The wisdom in this video can't be digested in just one watch. I struggle the most with what St. Ignatius of Loyola refers to as the enemy acting like "a licentious lover in wanting to be secret and not revealed." I hide too much of my struggles by habit but I am improving daily. It took courage to take the first step but the results ("proof" of his healing and strength) are indescribably amazing already.

That sounds like it bumps right up against detraction and gossip. Having a lover that wants to be kept secret because they don’t want your family to know that you are seeing them. It is not love but its counterfeit to agree to such demands.

I'm attracted to religious life for a variety of reasons. But for me, the Habit only adds to the whole enchilada, if you will. I just totally Love Jesus, and that's my desire for religious Vocation.

In the lands where I hail from, male religious, the mumbaki, only one of the many names for shaman-priests, were (at least many centuries ago, before the Spanish arrived) considered to be married to the goddess Talawen. This is sometimes shortened to the name Tala, the Diwata, or Goddess, of the Stars. Also of history, of magic, and of art. This is very similar I think, to many nuns and female religious of the present day, who consider themselves to be personally married to Jesus, or to God.

Hey Fr :) I feel attracted to an active religious order. Not one that focuses on education / service of the poor /third world ministry / diocesan work. All I know is that I feel attracted to an active religious order that focuses on preaching as a charism and a variety of ministries. What religious orders match this that I can look into? Eg: SOLT / Carmelites / Redemptorists? Is the Dominican’s charism of ‘study’ a rigid one or can dominican priests simply spend time choosing their own spiritual reading to nourish them daily? 😁 My own spirituality is: Charismatic, Marian, love adoration, love reading the lives of the saints, and my gifts would be creative ones (writing, drawing, painting, musician). I feel called to priesthood but not in a diocese or enclosed religious order. Something God keeps putting on my heart is to spread the Gospel, specifically to tell everyone how much Jesus loves them.

Best advise that helped me was this: the foundation of a “calling” is not eligibility; the foundation of a “calling” is profound and wild DESIRE. If the foundation of every calling were eligibility then every gorgeous woman should be a model and every strong and fit person should be an athlete and every short person should work for Willy Wonka 🤭😏. In the movie “Rudy” he is the last person in the world anybody would think could play football and certainly no recruiter would give him a second glance. He was short and not very strong or intimidating looking. But that didn’t discourage or crush his unshakable dream to play football for Notre Dame and well….the rest was history. He proved all of the cynics wrong!

Every girl rejects me, im 23 and the fact that girls reject me so much is really taking a toll on me, could it be that God is telling me that marriage is not for me?

Possibly. But who knows? Have you asked him? You're old enough now to start doing some serious soul searching, so go find a quiet place, sit down and ask him! Bring whatever you need with you, a journal, a bible, a book on discernment, whatever! He'll tell you in some way or other, it's not always loud and obvious, it could be quiet and subtle so that you have to be paying attention. But, even if you miss it the first, second, third times etc, he'll keep putting it out there until you hear him and respond (that's actually a token of a genuine vocation call, you some how keep seeing or hearing it over and over as time goes). God doesn't give up on us, even when we've given up trying, but we have to have faith in God's timing as well as in his love for us as individuals. While you're talking to God, and throughout your days, try to consider what you feel drawn to, if marriage is your calling I think you will come to know that in your heart, if being single for God out in the world is for you I think you will feel more drawn toward that, or if religious life or priesthood is your calling then I think you will sense that instead. It also doesn't hurt to try out religious life, most communities have retreats during which you're able to experience religious life for a few days or a week or so, and during which you usually also meet with directors who can assist you in discernment, not only of religious life but of other vocations such as marriage too. Additionally there are people who are trained to help people discern, they are called spiritual directors, life coaches are also able to help in a similar way. You don't need to be a religious or discerning religious life to have someone help you discern your vocation, though if you are called to religious life a spiritual director will be a required part of that journey. Finally, I have heard many talks from people who knew they were called to marriage and one thing I heard over and over from them was that once they knew this, they began to pray for their future spouse. Doing this is not only helpful for your future spouse, but for you as well. It can help you to be patient and watchful as you wait for the right one to come along. And know that Gods only designs for you are for your good, and never for your harm, even though you may go through hard or dark times. If more girls come along and either you or they decide it won't work, then place your trust in God and know that he's still got you in hand, mind, and heart. He never walks away, and he's always patient, always ready to lead you onward so long as you keep trusting in him. Every door that closes is just another one you don't need to consider anymore as you look for the right door, so to speak. In this way, even "negative" answers are still positive and lead you toward Gods will for you. That got long, sorry about that! But I thought you deserved an answer! Much of the above comes from my own experience so far of trying to follow Gods lead in my life. I totally feel for you when you said that it was starting to take a toll. So, I pray for you and hope that you soon find some clarity

I would recommend reading “To Save A Thousand Souls” which is a book on discerning Diocesan Priesthood. And even if you read if, you might not be called to the priesthood. When I read it, I found myself seeing how God is calling me towards marriage. I’m thankful for the opportunity to discern my secondary vocation, because our primary vocation is a call to holiness, with a group of God seeking young men like myself. I was able to honestly discern the priesthood more after my girlfriend broke up with me about a month ago, but after going to confession, adoration, and praying, He still is calling me towards Married Life😂. One thing I would tell you though, A NOVENA IS NOT A SUPPLEMENT FOR DISCERNMENT! Its not that it’s bad, but when it’s something this big, you will probably need more than 9 days to figure out what you’re doing the rest of your life. Also don’t forget that Marriage is a two way street, both you and your future spouse will need to “click” together, and even if she checks all the boxes, she might not be the one. That’s what happened with my ex-girlfriend and I. So pray for your future spouse as well. I’m sorry if all of this is a bit confusing, I basically just said all the stuff about discernment that came to my head😂

24/06/2121 Hang in there! As a 71yo I can affirm that life is NOT easy. Consider walking in a different path whilst discerning your future. Example living a secular life for a charity, even part time, could be a vocation. The Good Lord will not reject you, if you having a prayerful love for Him and live your Faith as He lived His....even unto death.

If religious are viewed as eschatological signs. And if their vocation is a call to live as it will be when we receive the beatific vision. And if this is the reason they refrain from marriage while taking vows of celibacy. Then why would they need Holy Orders, as none Sacraments will be needed in when we are beatified.

There seems to be an elephant in the room that no one is addressing: the vow of celibacy. Some of us should never become monks or nuns because we wouldn't do well with being celibate our whole lives.

Good video but I disagree when Fr. Pine says that priests aren't married to the Church. Celibate priests act in persona Christi Capitis and take the Church as their spouse, just as Christ did (Ephesians 5: 22-32). The idea of religious being the brides of Christ is well for female religious but not for male, as it implies a same-sex marriage. Recall that the Church is always seen as feminine (eg. Ecclesia, in Latin, a feminine word) and so it makes more sense for a priest to be espoused to the Church.

Your analogy falters on many levels. A bride of Christ is the church, the home which Christ will dwell. Religious brothers and sisters prepare their home to be lived in by Christ like any Holy lay person is called to do with their own homes. You accept the bread as the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist at mass; it is like that mustard seed that grows inside which has been said to be an increase in faith. In the Consecration to St Joseph book by Fr Donald Callaway, he talks about a biological phenomenon where the dna of a child remains with a mother for life. The same works between husband giving his seed to his wife, the child formed from their Union will be with her for life in a bond that is very deep. It is why divorce or annulment is so hard to get rid of and how the Catholic Church has gone to great lengths in the last 2,000 years to make the bond between man and woman the most sacred of all. There will be hardnesses of heart like in the days of Moses, but we have to be firm and fair with our brethren who seek redress from their bonds.

How can you follow God if you reject religion and reject Jesus. You’re just doing what you want and saying God is guiding you. The Church exists for a reason and Jesus came for a reason, so you can actually follow God as He wants you to. :)

Would you say to an oncologist that their direction and years of study is worthless because they have never experienced cancer? Likewise, many priests have a ton of training and wisdom in areas that they haven’t personally experienced but they can advise objectively. That’s not to say that there aren’t alternatives advisers on certain matters, like marriage, within the Church that can offer powerful support services because they share a common experience. And often priests or religious will refer people on if they feel they are not best suited to advise. That’s certainly been my experience.

Married with three kids here. I've added maybe 10-15% of practical substance to my body of knowledge on the subject since my wedding. The bulk of the previous total is derived from directing my eyes and ears, with supreme interest, at successful marriages. Even if I didn't know the full truth of marriage before - I can honestly say I haven't had to unlearn any lies.
