To add on to this video, one thing I constantly see newer producers ask is "How do I find my style/signature sound?" Honestly, don't even worry about it. Just make music that you like to hear. Your style will eventually come to you when you explore sounds and techniques that appeal to you.

For anyone that sees this. Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT shy away from saving projects you're not proud of/wasn't planning to save in the first place. Looking back at where you were a week, a month, a year ago and seeing how far you've come is a very strong confidence and motivation boost! I'm still pretty bad but compared to what I was like a few months ago, I've improved a lot. I wouldn't've noticed it without saving my bad projects!

I get so disheartened sometimes by how hard I try and how little success I have had. I've been on and off producing since 2012 but I have had so many rough patches, dead computers and other life things. I still pick up the mouse when I can but all I have is a Laptop and a pair of decent headphones. I always forget to just have fun with it and not stress over not knowing all the best techniques. This video made me feel a bit better. I appreciate it guys, hopefully I can get Orba off the ground and make a living out of it.
@giulianorascan21323 жыл бұрын
remember that its also super important to have a brand.. just making music isnt going to get you anywhere either. If you are Orba the alien, BRAND THE FK out of ORBA THE ALIEN. Make logos with aliens, make songs with alien references, make it YOU. That is a huge part of success.

To the people just getting into it: I been producing for 10 years and essentially have no real large scale success whatsoever, no major label releases or even interaction or anything. You have to be 100% in it for the love of the music, otherwise there is no point bc realistically not many people will actually make it. If I didn't love doing what I do there is absolutely no way in hell I would still be going and have pushed through years of failures, rejections, lack offulfilling

A big thing as well is that there is a lot of "informative channels" online that share tips and tricks that don't have a clue what they're talking about. They do it for the money and just push out as many useless tips and tricks as possible to get views. Look for producers you look up to and watch their streams/patreons. My baserule is: if you can't hear if something has changed for the better, don't use that trick! ofc there are exceptions, but this is fine for beginners. I have gotten stuck with dumb habits for years because of instagram/youtube channels like these.

Just wanted to say that music school can be beneficial. Some people don't learn well when not in a formal setting or without skin in the game. I personally have learned a lot of things in my time in Music school that stretched me beyond what I would have done if I had only been self taught. At the end of the day though you grow most when you apply things you've learned and spend hours experimenting and exploring. That is with or without school
