LifeisGrand Simmons nah. You got it wrong buddy. He thinks and takes action but he never talks about what he's gonna do.(he doesn't believe in this lie,this illusion,that if you talk about it you are going to be willing to do it when time comes) The way he thinks about and before an action is how to outsmart every problem and each of that problem's consequences and then he takes action, always. Now also important to note, in that thought process, easy is not an option. BUT YES! Eventually he does attack but he also thinks about how to. Not how to retreat but how to move in.

the biggest is that our brain was designed to protect ourselves from danger or uncomfort zone.so you really have to work at it everyday to have your mind and eyes straight as an arrow.that nothing will get in your way.that every failure is simply an obstacle you have to go through to get to your destination.i can't imagine the focus and discipline a navy seal.let alone an armed men of our forces to have.

I love how some of these people contradict another great person's philosophy! There's more than one way to skin a cat as they say! Jocko is a big inspiration to me, but so is Gary Vaynerchuk, Jock's 4th is 'Turn weaknesses into strengths', yet Gary preaches how 'people spend too much time trying to fix weaknesses instead of leveraging their strengths and working towards what they're truly good at. I don't think one or the other are incorrect, but rather both are right depending on the context! Perhaps I've taken one or the other out of context but it's clear different things work for different people :)

Check out Brene Brown's talks, she discusses how our strengths are often weaknesses in disguise. It's fair to say "leverage your strengths", but I think jocko is just saying don't over esteem yourself or they can become weaknesses. So much of what he is saying is actually rooted in spirituality (kinda like listening to an aggressive tough version of Ekarte Tolle) i.e Understand when you are acting out of your ego (fear/self) and when you are acting out of spirit (integrity, truth, unity).

At the same time, if we as people can better ourselves and improve everyday on our weaknesses we then have better applied knowledge and in return have more strengths to benefit ourselves and others in the path to success

This is where wisdom and discernment and common sense come into play. Life is more complicated than a slogan. Both of these ideas can be true and false depending on the context. If your weakness is in an important area then work on it. If your weakness is irrelevant to YOUR specific goals then focus more on what counts, perhaps leveraging your strengths. An obvious example that is over-simplified would be a linebacker in football working on his passing skills. He can't pass very well, but he does not need to. He would be better off working on other things, even working on ways to exploit the strengths he already has. Or a computer programmer working on his public speaking skills when he realistically is never (or rarely) going to be speaking in public. He's making his living by grinding code. Get better at that, even if you're already really good at that.

#1 Attack I thought would be my number one from Jocko's list. I am a mom and manager, etc. and I get a lot of fuel and inspiration from Super hero (Hans Zimmer), motivational rap music and boxing commentating. However, once he started talking about allowing your stress fuel you, I changed it to #7 Take Advantage of the Stress. Standing within the stress and learning to allow it to push you through whatever you are going thru gave new meaning to my world. Thanks Jocko!

Thanks Evan for putting this one up. I have been following Joko for a little while now and love his words of wisdom. Much respect for him. All of these are excellent tips and advise, the one that sticks out for me is "3.Take Action Now." You can have all the knowledge and education in the world but if you don't put into action/practice, what good does it do you? I put this into practice in my own life by going back to school online and pursing a bachelors degree. I am 42 years old, married with two children, one of whom is graduating high school and headed to college in the fall. Its a big challenge for me but it comes down to making the decision AND, to follow "8. Just Do It." Thanks again for the video, keep em coming!
